Communicating with him in ASL would be twice as disconcerting, I would think. Facial expressions, eye movement, and other nonverbal cues are crucial. His dead eyes and slack face aren't his fault (the jerky movements are), of course. I wonder what his mission leaders expected him to accomplish when they assigned him to ASL.
