I'm going to be paying attention when The Last Night launches. How many reviews will mention the controversy (which is unknown outside of autism-land)? Will certain video-focused outlets (ie. Giant Bomb) avoid it? I've heard rumors that Giant Bomb is intentionally not doing a video of A Hat in Time because of Jon Tron's involvement. He doesn't need to recover. Gafera's users can whine all they want, but in the end, Soret's still the one making fun games and being an active participant in the gaming industry who'll be taken way more seriously.
Maya Kramer was at the PC Gamer show during E3 promoting a game (Tunic) she got hired to do PR for while Tim Soret was doing his own thing on stage. She basically called for a McCarthyist style blacklist against people like Tim in response to The Last Night blowing up into the controversy.
You can debate how much power these people have, but there are no shortage of vocal people who have platforms to slag on Tim. No one dares publicly speak up in defense or you become a target. It's far easier to not get involved and focus on your own shit. Just like so many industry people will casually condemn GamerGate as being horrible right after stating how they know nothing about it.
