I would either have a drink with this man or shit myself depending on the lighting of the street we crossed paths on.

Okay folks, grampy sneasel is gonna take you on a trip back in time...

Back in the beginning of the decade, 4chan's /cgl/ board would have plenty of threads on people who were among the cringiest members of the burgeoning online cosplay community. Sure Pixyteri was always a feature, but there was one girl who always got her own fair share of discussion. Her name was PeacockFeather.

PeacockFeather (aka Rachel Tallnam)

Does she not look oddly like a defective Marzgurl clone that TGWTG removed from its feeding station?

The worst cosplays I've seen on my last con were mostly these lazy D.Va cosplays. All they do is putting on a brown wig (sometimes they don't even style it) and some cheap D.Va shirt they found on eBay or these badly made bodysuits.

They actually encourage this on the official site

"Blizzcon has a lot of epic cosplay, but it doesn't take a lot of work to look epic."

Even those are closer to cosplay than some of the stuff people do these days. Some people try to find the most revealing character costume ever seen anywhere, doesn't matter where from, and then try to make it as small as possible. It's not about a faithful RL translation of a character you like. It's become amateur exhibitionist con.

The second girl did everything right tho. She cosplayed a character that belonged to an organisation called nudist beach so barely wearing anything is pretty authentic.

At least they're recognizable as who they're trying to be? Well, I've never seen Death Note, so limited amount of knowledge of the characters, but I realized that was a guy from the show. But on the other hand, I looked him up and he has his shirt tucked in and is wearing dress slacks and not jeans. That's not hard to do!!

Has anyone brought up the infinite Slave Leia "interpretations" yet? You can essentially just google "slave leia ____" and it will bring something up.

(Why would you bother to make offbrand sexy versions of characters from an anime that is quite literally based around the characters wearing next to nothing? Oh, right: :autism:)

And here's a lasy-ass autistic Link for good measure

I like lazy-ass autistic Link. It takes real effort to do a cosplay that makes Chris's efforts look like overachievement.

Just, whatever you do, do NOT google "fat slave leia". I have seen things at cons that I will never be able to unsee...

PeacockFeather (aka Rachel Tallnam) was one of their favorite punching bags because of her creepiness, obvious disabilities and her absolute failure in cosplay. As a creeper she would obsess over other cosplayers to the point where people would strategize how to avoid her. She would get cosplay crushes on these girls essentially. She had obvious disabilities, evident from her writing style, outward appearance and behavior and her cosplay was just absolutely weird/horrible.

Brb getting lobotomized

To be honest, the concept of "sexy cosplay" just makes me cringe.

I don't just mean people who don't have the body to justify it- those are bad, but even people who do... what's the point? Oh great, you can show off your boobs or your ripped chest, so what? What even is the point?

I don't have a problem with it IF the cosplay calls for the "sexy elements" like shirtlessness or whatever. Here's a good example from one of my favourite cosplayers, Broseph David.

brosephdavid.jpg

Look at that. This guy is a goddamn national treasure. Yes, he goes for the shirtlessness because the cosplay calls for it. And even still that isn't the focus. There's no attempt to be sexy here, and thank fuck; the makeup job is on point, he suits the Joker so well and the attention to detail is extremely apparent. In fact that makeup job even compelled me to search out the exact products he uses for my own Joker cosplay. Glad I did, I got tons of compliments for mine.

Then there's... um, this.

hamm.jpg

Yeah, cool, good for you. You're ripped as fuck. So what? Ash's shirt isn't even that torn in the movie and when it is, it's not till near the end. Furthermore other than bloody gashes there's no dirt or grime on him because heaven forbid, he can't tarnish his ever so perfect abs.

Sorry for ranting but had to get that out after seeing the cringe making "slutty" outfits here.

Validation. Cosplayers, even hot cosplayers, are often awkward in real life--but if you go to a con in an even halfway-decent costume, you'll have people gathering around and asking for your photograph. You feel like a Cool Dude, at least for a little while, and it can go right to your head. Sexy costumes are like the nerd version of displaying plumage to show off your availability for mating.

Basically, the IRL version of this.

Sauce: 15+ years of convention experience. I've seen some shit, man.

What do you think about sexy cosplays where it's something the character actually wears? What if it's something they're only shown wearing once/a couple of times? Like, say, 'Sexy no Jutsu' Naruto (someone posted a bad one earlier).

In terms of interpretation/adaption cosplays, I like them if it's still obvious who the original character is (and it's not dumb). With some characters it's pretty easy to be recognizable, like Harry Potter, , but generally...eh. Although I'm always down for seeing anime cosplays that involve kimonos because they're pretty.

I was wondering about that, do people just go in revealing cosplays just to find someone else in a revealing cosplay and go "Hey, my room 87, 7pm"
