I love how Matthew's parents do that 'we find it harder to receive than give' speech, like they haven't already raked in funds from various sources. But, NOW they're *really* asking people to help so that they can attend a seminar where, if you pay people just a little more money, they'll get someone in a lab coat to get your 1% brain function child to a 1.1% brain function.
What confuses me is that these people wouldn't let their animals suffer (I'm assuming) and would put them to sleep, but when it comes to their severely disabled/disfigured/ill children, they want to prolong the torture as long as possible for asspats and bc ~it's God's will. I would hope God wouldn't be such a cunt and put an innocent kid through shit like this only to live for years in pain and still have to be dressed up as Scrappy fucking Doo.
Yep! Sadly, the only species of animal that tries to keep a severely disfigured newborn alive is a homosapien. And, even then, that's a recent development in our evolutionary history. If a mother car has a FUBAR kitten, she walks away from it. Same with almost every other animal, except us, because animals intrinsically seem to understand that FUBAR body means FUBAR life or no life worth living. The religious fundamentalists are backing themselves into corners because it's only recently that we developed the ability to keep things alive to the extent that we do and if they allow their "miracle" to die, they get faith scorned at church. Ever been to a mom's day at a really big baptist church? It's judgement day and they can be catty little bitches. But, when one of them has a premie or a FUBAR kid, they rally the troops for prayer war and put that GoFundMe up because mom is "bravely" choosing life...even when nature and/or God say "are you fucking kidding me right now?"
I think some of these people are those weirdos that think death is the worst thing ever. They seem to think death is a horrible affair and there's nothing worse that could ever happen.
The ultimate irony being: as Christians, the goal is to sit with God in heaven and have faith that Jesus will lead a such a pure soul into the loving arms of father heaven (or something...). I've always wanted to ask one of these bible thumpers why they'd work against God's will if heaven is such a wonderful place. Just let that baby float on up to Jesus.
That's the thing. It's not God's will for a newborn whose condition is incompatible with life to be whisked way to an incubator and hooked up to tubes and monitors and breathing machines. God's will would be for them to die in their parents arms right after birth to prevent prolonged agony or pain. It is selfish as hell to keep that child alive and suffering just because the parents won't let go.
God's will seems to become more and more powerful right alongside medical and technological developments. Back in the thirties, people thought the Dionne Quints were fucking made of Jesus because they survived their micro preemie births. Now, it's almost like preemies are a dime a dozen and now God's saving these really broken infants. If they are truly believed their children were miracles, they'd take those feeding and breathing tubes out and get to prayin'. But, no, ... pretty soon, people will be mourning their period as a potential life.
For a lot of these types of parents, it's all me me me to them. They don't care how much their kid is suffering (or suffered), likewise, they don't care about other kids suffering.
Winner, winner! It *is* all about the parent. For one, the child certainly didn't sign up for years and years of pain, torture, illness, and oblivion. Second, it SHOULD BE illegal to use these kids as figure heads without consent. If someone posts a picture of their toddler in a bathing suit, fundies scream their fucking heads off about the sins of the flesh. They have fits over people aborting feti or embryos by saying, "there's no dignity in that." Well, what's dignified or respectful about showing your child's pain and suffering in the hopes that you get some asspats or faiith-credit? Did anyone ask Matthew or Lola if they liked having their seizures shown to the youtube universe so people could tell these mothers what a hard road they're walking and how courageous they are? Nope. Courage is putting the quality of life ahead of life for life's sake. Courage is saying, "this clearly wasn't what nature intended and I want to insure that my child doesn't suffer.
