I wouldn't say he's "rightfully" mocked for Wesley Crusher. It's not like he came up with the character, wrote the character, decided the character's behaviors or anything else. It's actually kind of important to remember that Wesley Crusher isn't actually Wil Wheaton's fault, and at the time he didn't deserve the hate he had heaped on him. A lot of the hate even the character gets is overblown, as he definitely didn't save the day "twice an episode"... it was closer to twice in his entire presence on the show. (And yeah you're allowed to think that's two times too many but it's still way behind every other character.)

Of course he sort of made himself retroactively deserve it with all this bullshit. As much as he got shit on he still could have had a career with some respectability to it. He just took a lazy, easy path back to being somewhat in the public eye, and turns out that if he had been in charge of the character, Wesley probably would have been far more insufferable than any of us could have possibly imagined.

If anything, it's a greater indictment of Wil- everybody but Wil Wheaton realizes that Wil Wheaton and Wesley Crusher are not the same person.

True enough.

Thing is, it's actually pretty easy to escape the Star Trek pigeonholing, plenty of other crewmembers have done it. They do it by the simple fact of moving behind the camera instead. More Star Trek alums are working as directors now than there are still working as actors. If Wheaton hadn't burned his bridges and thrown his tantrums, and instead tried what the others did of working things out with the creative staff and gradually learning the director's trade, he'd probably be directing TV episodes now instead of abusing models behind the scenes of Suicide Girls shoots.

Of course I guess with recent revelations about the film industry there might not be much difference.

Exactly. Several Trek alumni moved on to be directors, producers, screen writers, voice actors, continued acting, and several have done all of the above. But he was surrounded by many talented people, so of course they were able to move on post-Trek and remain successful and relevant.

Wil's entire career has been "bit part here" and "cameo there" and "one episode on season whatever". He made his mark as "Shut up, Wesley!" and it was mediocrity and obscurity up until a few years ago when geek became chic, corporations fucked the shit out of the market, and Wil was able to find some popularity. But he's obviously still bitter about never becoming the big star he felt he should have been. He was never talented or handsome enough to become a big name leading man, but he was decent enough to keep landing roles (mostly because he was "Shut up, Wesley") and keep from finding a real job/starving.

On top of all these things, Wil is no longer baby-faced "cute". I think even if he shaved the literal neckbeard his face has undergone changes that wouldn't make him look as he did as Wesley Crusher, what with all the soy lattes he's been gulping down like it was going out of style.

Eh, he's still got the baby face thing going on, but not in a good way. Because of the Soyboy lifestyle, he's got that saggy, scrawny "skinny-fat" thing going on. He's got the body of an old man and a baby face that's gone to seed. He's got this weird mixture of young and old that's unnerving to look at. So he's a "man" in his 40's that doesn't look like a mature man his age, but he's got the body of a man nearly twice his age.

Wil decided to take the classy approach and blocked YouTube personalities who literally had done nothing to him.

Here's his "logic" behind it:

What a crybaby.

Anytime anyone melts down on/about social media, this is all I can think of.

Because god forbid you just not tweet. Lord knows the internet would simply fall into a barbarous dark age without the guiding light of Wil Wheaton's 140 character love letters to soy lattes.

Heck I think most of the more modern Trek casts also found huge lucrative careers doing voice work. Much of the old TNG cast was heavily involved in the Disney Afternoon shows for years. And LeVar Burton not only moved behind the camera, he actually might hold the distinction of being the best Star Trek TV director. He directed shows in every TV incarnation of Trek from TNG through Enterprise. And his episodes are generally among the absolute best. The ones you go back to. He even managed to squeeze the best episode out of Voyager. (And give himself a cameo as Captain of the USS Challenger). He truly found his calling behind the camera. Michael Dorn as well turned into an amazing director. We all know how well Janathan Frakes does behind the camera. (let's agree to never discuss Thunderbirds okay?) And then there is Wil Wheaton... I know Rodenberry essentially created him to be a fanboy self insert character... but he did a far better job than any would have imagined. As Wheaton is a professional fanboy and nothing more.

The main thing about Wil is that he was never much in the way of talented. He started off as the obnoxious kid genius that saved the ship every third episode. Then became a member of the bridge crew and they never really knew what to do with him. And his only scene in the last Trek movie "Nemesis" was cut because he had fuck all to do with anything. He was just "there".

He's just not interesting enough to pay attention to. When the biggest thing you've done is play yourself on the Big Bang Theory then just pack it up because you're already at the bottom of the pile. Your next stop is dinner theater and making the rounds of chat shows. And that's sad.

He was okay in Stand By Me. Probably because he was supposed to be the the boring normal kid in the group, so he fit that role. Like I said before though, he was very much out-acted in that movie especially against child actors like Corey Feldman and River Phoenix.

I can't think of anything else he was good in tbh. He got lucky with Stand By Me.

Holy shit, Wil's such a pussy he'd rather mass block people who literally did nothing to him just because they just happened to follow one guy who was messing with him.

One guy. And Wil just blocks everyone.

He very much seems to follow the mold of guilty of association when it comes to blocking people. After all, if he has to block someone for being a alt-right nazi shitlord, then obviously everyone following that person must also be an alt-right nazi shitlord.

This nigga probably saw that Boogie was looking at strippers and was like "Oh god this fat man is objectifying these women"

which would be weird as fuck considering he was a blogger for one of the most exploitative porn sites in recent years.

I'm browsing through the blocklist and it looks like he's blocked literally anyone who's listed their name as Milo Yiannapolis. What a loon.

There's a point in time when it's time to step back and look in the mirror and it's right up at this time. When you have a block list that is over 55,500 people, I think I'd find that a bit embarrassing.

A normal, humble person at a time like that would probably do some reflection and ask themselves if maybe the problem lies with themselves, not everyone else. Wil is a narcissist, and is incapable of that kind of introspection.

Am I so out of touch? ... no, it's the rest of the world that is wrong.
