Critique is one of the most important avenues by which artists improve. If your art of Japanese people makes them look grotesque despite your intention being to portray realistically and favorably, that's a problem that warrants being pointed out. I'd even go so far as to say that Tumblr's enabling of shitty art habits warrants being examined.
This right here is part of the reason why an artist's fanbase, especially on the internet, can be their worst enemies in a lot of ways. Fans don't actually care about someone's artistic growth or reaching their full potential, just being entertained (or in the case of places like Tumblr, validated). So when fans rush to white knight for someone, it's more about defending themselves for liking the thing being criticized. A lot of more egotistical or insecure artists tend to bury themselves in these sorts of fans because their compliments are like candy - more instantly gratifying but ultimately provide little value in the long run - and it very often leads to stagnation because there's no one to encourage them out of their comfort zones.
I realize I'm a minority on this front, but I've always felt that any sort of art people put on the internet, including your own, is open to any and all sorts of criticism, and if you can't handle that then you probably shouldn't be an artist.
Most people, even the ones here, aren't saying "lul this art sux kill yourself", they're saying that it looks awkward and borders on being a racist caricature, which conflicts heavily with the artist's intent and devalues not just the piece but the point she was making with it.
These fuckers never forgive anyone for the slightest perceived transgression, so they themselves should not be forgiven for using flat out racist caricatures of Japanese people that could have come directly from World War II propaganda.
Because it's easy and can make very bland characters stand out through contrast and somehow look cuter.
If you want an artist that makes decent tumblr noses that add to the piece instead of being a lazy shortcut, look into Ioish's art. I'm pretty sure she hepled popularize it too.
The reason it doesn't look as bad here is because she is a god at rendering rendering and uses proper shading shading with some semblance of a pose for her characters.
SJW Tumblrinas don't know what they're doing.
Ugh, I always hate fuckers like this for how blatantly self serving they are. Go through the feed of any of them and you're guaranteed to find tweets/reblogs/whatever of them jumping on the bandwagon to make fun of the artists like Rory, or plebcomics, or the artists who work on Steven Universe, or any of the other people who've been deemed "acceptable targets" for ridicule, while at the same time throwing the biggest bitch fits you've ever seen at the slightest whiff of someone sending even the gentlest of ribbings their way. And if anyone ever points out the hypocrisy of this, they'll perform all sorts of mental gymnastics to rationalize it as being different somehow.

(On the flip side of this, if you can't take criticism then you have no business dissing other people's art.) These people are like if comedians went around saying people shouldn't make jokes about them and claimed hecklers at clubs were harassment.
It's not about "defending" poor oppressed artists from mean words on the internet, it's a bunch of narcissistic twats defending their over inflated egos.
While I do agree on that's exactly how these people think, I don't think you can consider a tweet to your, god knows how many, followers with the text "tumblr was a mistake" a viable critique.
Like, what the artist personally is supposed get from that?
All they see is a bunch of weebs laughing at/offended by an ugly face. Hell, they might ever churn some more of these out of spite for animufags, if they are exceptional enough or if they will get enough morale boost from all those who defend them.
They won't realise that they've drawn asian person as a racial caricature. They will just think "meh, weebs be offended then their waifus are drawn REALISTICALLY" at worst.
Went on their blog and this art is much better to the eye. I don't know, it's just like the first pic posted somehow seemed extremely unsettling. Their other art seems pretty normal as well. I guess sometimes we all have a case of the "i can't draw today"
Holyshit if you wanna draw something more 'realistic rendition' out of those character, just go look for some reference of actual Japanese girl photos that have similar image/vibe with said character instead of cramming the stereotypes that it ended up like racist caricature...
Oh god, I wasn't too sure on how it was a racial caricature, but, boy, this is pretty bad. I see it now, definitely.

Believe me this exactly how these chucklefucks think. If you want proof, I found this just skimming through the OP's twitter:
and another
and for the icing on the cake
As for the rest: going back to my stand up comedian analogy, the worst thing you can do when you get up on stage is argue with hecklers. Because when you argue, not only does it come at the expense of your own routine and the audience who came to listen to you perform, but it draws more attention to the actual heckler, you give them the advantage because they now know they're getting under your skin, and will likely encourage more to join in. It's much for productive for you and your audience to either ignore what the heckler is saying, or better yet, to take what the heckler is saying and make something out of it. It's also important to note that hecklers aren't just assholes (they can be, but not necessarily) but rather they are often a symptom that your routine isn't keeping your audience's attention as well as it should - either your delivery is poor/too slow, or your punchlines are weak, or your stage presence needs work, etc. - and that you should go back and see for yourself where things could be better.
But this sort of attitude being passed around isn't that randy's on the internet making heckling tweets shouldn't matter outside of maybe getting a feel for your audience, it's that those tweets shouldn't even exist. Especially when people who complain that it's not a real criticism unless it's put in the form of a compliment sandwich that lists at least 3 things someone liked about the art, are also the same people who will so smugly say "it's not my job to educate you" when throwing around allegations of shit like racism/sexim/whatever "ism" of the day, which are way more serious than "your art's ugly." That shit is transparently not about wanting "viable" critiques but rather an attempt to shut people down because the average joe can't articulate why they think your art is ugly.
It's like all these dumbasses forget the age old saying "don't feed the trolls" and decided to that rolling around in honey and then running around kicking beehives was the best course of action against memes and internet comments.
This is a worse thread to be made and not sure if a single fanart of buck teeth of characters in a video game is even worth of a thread.
Doki Doki Literature Club, a visual novel varies on the cause of psychological issues and within others of the mentally challenged got popular to the point where Tumblr comes into place and joins in on drawing fanart to attempt to blend in.
Mamy weebs on Twitter according to the source of the site were triggered over this.
@Ningiou defending Tumblr fanart saying that it's bad to nitpick the artstyle when in most cases, there's almost everyone within art community itself does the exact same thing causing the huge attention from Mombot. Plus, he'll challenge you to fighting games.
I hope the group complaining about how fugly tumblr art is aren't the same ones who like to shit on people for drawing women attractive/genderbend and then tell the artist to kill themselves
In a way, Im glad that this particular drawing is getting attention. Its encompasses everything wrong with tumblr art.
1. Wonky faces
2. Changing a character's canon race
3. Making a pretty character look ugly
4. Making a character look like a racist sterotype
5. Big fat red tumblr nose
6. And huge mouths for no reason
