Invasion Day activist criticised after controversial remarks
A PROTEST group has posted an incendiary statement following a controversial speech from one of its organisers last week.

PROTEST group Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance (WAR) has released an expletive laden statement after backlash to comments from one of its members on Australia Day.

Tarneen Onus-Williams told a crowd of thousands “F**k Australia, hope it burns to the ground” during an Invasion Day rally in Melbourne on Friday.

The 24-year-old also told the crowd she wanted Australia Day abolished instead of the date being changed.

“All you fellas in your Australian flags should be ashamed of yourselves,” she added.

There were calls for the WAR organiser to be removed from her role with a government-funded body following the comments.

Today, WAR, a group with more than 21,000 followers on Facebook has released a strongly worded statement in response to the criticism.

“WAR will not rest until we burn this entire rotten settler colony called Australia, illegally and violently imposed on stolen Aboriginal land at the expense of the blood of countless thousands, to the f***ing ground, until every corrupt and illegal institution of white supremacist, patriarchal, capitalist settler colonial power forced upon us is no more,” it read.

Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett told The Australian that Ms Onus-Williams, should step down as an executive member of Victoria’s Koorie Youth Council (KYC) for a series of angry, divisive comments.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate that she continues to serve on the council,” Mr Kennett said.

“This is something that’s meant to advance the understanding and appreciation of all things indigenous and in saying what she has, she’s shown that she’s totally incompatible with that. I think it’s a case of ‘thank you, but goodbye,’” he said.

KYC released a statement yesterday saying Ms Onus-Williams is a “volunteer youth member” with the organisation.

“Ms Onus-Williams’s role in Friday’s rally is separate to her volunteering at KYC,” the statement read.

“As on organisation, KYC does not share her stance.”

Ms Onus-Williams told Fairfax Media late last week: “It was a strong statement, but I am not going to apologise for it.

“It was a metaphor, not actually a statement to be taken literally,” she added.

“I just want everything, all the governments to fall apart, because our people are dying and nobody cares and the whole system needs to change.

“The leaders of this country continue to ignore and oppress us. I am sick of our people getting locked up and dying in custody, of our young people suiciding.

“I don’t have all the answers of what is going to liberate us. I just know the current system isn’t working. Since colonisation nothing has worked for blackfellas on this land.”

“Sometimes, when you’re a bit poetic, things get taken out of context,” she added on Twitter.

However, indigenous leader and former ALP president Warren Mundine has also put pressure on Ms Onus-Williams after her remarks.

Mr Mundine said she was a hypocrite and a “hater” for working with the government on state-funded programs while openly attacking the government and causing division in other forums.

I don't get the enormously angry response to Tarneen Onus-Williams's speech at the Invasion Day rally. It's not like she burnt a flag (which would be justifiable). I think Aboriginal people display an amazing amount of restraint.

I am furious and ashamed at how people have targeted @Tarneen and the Koori Youth Council. This is modern day colonisation. When people threaten and try to silence strong black voices by vandalising centres and threatening women— what else could it be called.

“The serious question here is why is the government funding these groups and these organisations when the people involved are haters who have no scruples about taking taxpayers’ money and then spitting in their faces,” Mr Mundine told The Australian.

“And governments only have themselves to blame for wasting taxpayers’ money, because there’s no real rigour in appointments and no questions about where this money is going. And then you see money going into causes and demonstrations where people are racially abusing and threatening people — it has to change.”

Just an FYI https://t.co/nnyPsrK0s1

A sad sad day indeed Waren Mundine attacks the Koorie Youth Council and call for it to be defunded. This country has the highest indigenous youth suicide in the world and your bagging out our youth. Because they voice their opinions in the week of Mourning. Wow no words.

Criticising young Aboriginal women trying to have a voice is the last thing senior Aboriginal men should be doing. Instead we should be strongly backing Aboriginal women to be front and centre of our struggle.

However, some on social media came to the defence of Ms Onus-Williams.

“I am furious and ashamed at how people have targeted @Tarneen and the Koori Youth Council. This is modern day colonisation,” wrote one commentator. “When people threaten and try to silence strong black voices by vandalising centres and threatening women — what else could it be called.”

News.com.au tried to contact Ms Onus-Williams via the Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance. However, the organisation refused to comment on the criticism.

Another angry halfcaste, robbing the welfare system with her "abo" status, getting free education, free medical, grants, funding, free housing.

She seems to believe that Whitey should just hand over Australia to her and her kin, so they can run the country. Like most Abos with handouts, she'd spend it on a case of XXXX, some flyspray and a carton of the cheapest durrys around. $1.1 Trillion is a lot of beer, smokes and flyspray.

It's really sad "indigenous people", be they Native Americans or Australian Aboriginals or whatever, have been given all these chances to succeed in normal society thanks to so much affirmative action and free shit but instead most of them would rather sit back and get smashed all day and aspire to nothing more than committing crime and taking over their village (look at that one town in the NT with the heavy metal-themed Aboriginal gangs).
The welfare itself is crippling them. Like it does everywhere else.

I mean, not that they would have flying cars and robots without the welfare checks, but they would at least be standing on their own feet instead of lying in the road high on petrol fumes.

Rainforests can be just as hateful as desert; sometimes, more so. For example: Australia has five different species of Stinging Tree (think nettles, but massive and much worse), the worst of which, Gympie-Gympie, has a sting that can literally last for years. It's other common name is "suicide tree", as its sting is so painful people have been known to kill themselves just to make it stop.
Also, rainforests are very hostile to agriculture, which is the cornerstone of civilization: if you can't do agriculture, you aren't going to build permanent dwellings or start focusing on metallurgy. The Indian tribes in America that built earthworks and massive wooden cities all had agriculture as well as hunting.

Problem is, Abos are nothing like Native Indians or the Ainu or anything like that, they make those societies look futuristic.
The mass population of Abos that lived in Sydney when Cook arrived, were the Eora and Darug and they had a nice climate with fishable waterways and yet they did nothing with it.
Fast Forward to today - where they've had let's say, 40 years at least with welfare benefits and they have also achieved nothing.
I'm not speaking of outback ones either, I'm speaking about the shit that clogs up Sydney itself. They get everything handed to them and they prefer to fight one another like savages, get drunk and destroy things.
The government provides for these people in a way which is unlike anything I've seen in other countries. They are basically pampered and completely catered too - they have all the tools at their finger tips, but they are either perpetually angry and fighting and thus too busy to do better or drunk/drugged whatever.

The government gave some of them an Island and tried to get them to work their land for money, so they could be self sufficient. They destroyed it. They have been given houses in outback communities, on their own traditional lands. They set them on fire.

The types that scream about how they've had "their" land stolen are filthy, autistic, handout reared city boongs who know nothing about their "culture" other than the negative aspects. It's trendy to hate whitey atm, so they've gotten on that bandwagon.

They didn't build this country to what it is. They didn't *build* anything. In a way their past is irrelevant because they've had this time in the modern era to do something and they haven't. They can't even make their own communities successful with all the funding they get.

To be fair, their society's embrace of the status quo was because they lived in, quite literally, one of the most brutally harsh environments on Earth where fucking around at any point could very easily lead to you getting killed by the mammals, birds, reptiles, arthropods, plants, freak weather events, or the heat. Aboriginals are hyper-conservative because 99.9% of the time, doing things differently kills the innovator in Australia. Invention is a luxury afforded by an environment that isn't constantly trying to murder you; see the Inuits.

You try living in the Outback for a week and tell me how much free time you have to invent agriculture.

You're either a dumbass, or a handwringing fanny who has never met or had to deal with an aboriginal. Civilisation arose all across Europe, in places where the winters are so cold you die if you spent 24 hours away from shelter.

That's funny, I was under the impression that some if not all Aboriginal tribes are patriarchal. I mean, I could be wrong seeing as how I'm a dumb white Yank, but I remember reading once about men-only ceremonial sites and musical instruments.
They're so patriarchal, traditionally women are not allowed to touch Digeridoos. I remember the flap that happened many many years ago when the 80s pop singer Madonna was presented with a gift of a Diggeridoo one time in Australia (by some whitey no doubt), and she had the audacity to TOUCH it. The "abbos" were not too thrilled, as a Diggeridoo is "sacred" in the patriarchal sense, meaning women aren't even supposed to TOUCH the things. Because defilement. It probably was defiled by Madonna's touch, but NOT because she is a woman. :story:

Yes, because they had arable land and technology inherited from more southerly people. Don't tell me you fell for the "Vikings survived entirely through raiding people" meme the History Channel perpetuates. Agriculture is the single most difficult technology to realize even under insanely favorable circumstances, and the cornerstone of civilization. Very little arable land + very little free time + massive cultural isolation = stagnation in the Stone Age. Explaining the situation of the aboriginals pre-colonialism as "Abos are just stupid monkeys hurr hurr" shows an astounding lack of even basic thought.

Typical abbo huts from the golden era before the evil White colonialists came to oppress them with their centrelink payments of hatred:

This is literally what that dumb fatty wants to bring back.

Then she'll complain when there's no wifi and she can't REEEEE on social media about how hard it is to live in a straw hut without running water and electricity.

Fun fact, there exists a forum for unrepresentated and indigionous populations... the Australian abbos managed to get removed from this group for violating the organizations charter. You want to know a surefire metric to tell if you're shit?

If bleeding heart liberals kick you out of a group...

Also, rainforests are very hostile to agriculture, which is the cornerstone of civilization: if you can't do agriculture, you aren't going to build permanent dwellings or start focusing on metallurgy.

For anyone wondering why a place with year round sunlight, water and dense vegetation is hostile to agriculture: to much rain actually drains soil of nutrients, and a lot of other issues stem from that.

Any clearing (and a clearing is necessary because very little sunlight reaches the ground through the dense canopy otherwise) that isn't contained/irrigated properly and tended to constantly once the undergrowth is removed is just going to turn into a black patch of sandy soil or a mud pit depending on the weather once there's nothing holding it together.

Most of the native plant life only survives there because they've formed a symbiotic relationship with the immense number of fungi that help leach nutrients out of dead organic matter and into larger plants they're attached to before the heat and rain rapidly decompose and wash them away. Fungi is the only thing that grows rapidly on the ground, rainforests have by far the most variety and a lot of them are dangerous to humans and foreign plants.

So abbos are essentially the Roma of Australia?

Whether or not the Aboriginals failed to make use of what they had to hand, I think we can all agree that you can't just unmake a whole country after 150+ years of history. It's like domestication or thoracopagous twins: it's done, and there's no undoing it, because if you try you'll just destroy both things involved.

Human history is long and often brutal. All of us share the blood of colonizers and colonized; rapists and rape victims; soldiers and pacifists; evil whitey and woke POC. It's done, we're here now, we might as well make the best of it. Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes.

Or alternately, you can cherry-pick bits of your identity to use as a club against other people who aren't making you feel special enough. I guess there's that.

What they do have in common with those other groups (such as North American Indians), is, you get any culture heavily reliant on Shamanistic religious practices and otherworldly revelation and "spirit guidance" (often induced by substances like say Peyote in the Americas), the minute they gain mass access to alcohol and then figure out what alcohol does, you're going to have a problem. Instead of going on a proper "Vision Quest" or "Walkabout", or "Dreamwalking", or whatever it is they do, they'll chug a bottle of inexpensive booze for what they hope is the same effect.

Then of course, there's the secondary alcoholism, which is, some form of abuse or trauma (some of which happened in Residential Schools such as being beaten for speaking the native language, or outright secret pedoraep, and then secondary abuse from parents who were traumatized by something like Residential Schools and they are drinking and abusing their kids, so then the kids start drinking or huffing gas or glue or whatever), and then they're driven to alcohol to drown their sorrows in successive generations in an endless cycle.

You call the Murray-Darling Basin "very little arable land"? I'm pretty confused that over 1 million kilometers squared of fertile agricultural land is considered very little but alright. As for massive cultural isolation plenty of civilizations were equally as culturally isolated yet still established agricultural practices such as the pre-Spanish Mesoamericans and Xia and Shang Dynasty China. To say "but Aboriginals couldn't have developed agriculture" is dumb, especially when Aboriginals have manipulated the land for the benefit of men via fire stick farming.
