A lot of people seem to act like they know this individual artist's situation though and that seems unfair. Yeah taking away one's phone is not abuse in and of itself but from the comic it seems like he's saying there was a pattern of his parents only punishing and never encouraging/helping him, which abuse or not isn't a good way to lead to a healthy child.

I'd have to disagree with you for the most part and posit that Jason doesn't even know what he's arguing about(for?). He is just scratching that all-too-common itch for arguing with faceless people online from what I can see.
