I initially thought the reviewer was "Max Power" for a moment. Maybe I've got the Simpsons on my mind.

Anyways, I wonder how many death threats Power and whatshername got. You probably know it's coming.

TBH, I've not seen the film, but there's nothing about the trailers that really made me think it was anything special. I'm kind of reminded of the situation with Wonder Woman, which was a fun film but not particularly original, yet all the critics went on like it was the greatest event in cinema since The Great Train Robbery.

Racism is strong in the social justice world, no matter how much they want to deny and call you "literally Hitler" for bringing it to challenge. Racism, to them, is using slurs and basing it on your skin color, but it's OK to hate on someone for being Irish, or someone to hate Jews because "Israel took land away from the Moooooslims" seems pretty hypocritical to me.

Far as its all over a movie, one can say its very petty to get angry at some guy not giving a positive review just because he didn't like it. Yeah they can say this film is important because of an all black cast or black super hero but in the end, it's just cape shit from Hollywood where a corporation trying to milk money off of people. Besides, the two people "ruining" the perfect score aren't really going to matter, not when other people watch the film and see from their own perspective that it isn't as great so many people are touting.

I recently binge marathoned a bunch of Marvel stuff I hadn't gotten to yet(literally, as in the last few days). Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Doctor Strange, Thor Ragnarok, and the Punisher. I loved all of them, but Ragnarok had to be my favorite just because it felt like they were rolling with the punches.

I find that the Marvel netflix series are better off being super serious, because Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Punisher, etc, they're good at it. They do a good job at presenting that angle, in my opinion. The movies on the other hand, are also imo better off being like Thor Ragnarok. Sure, serious moments aren't exempt, but I like the comedy mixed in like when Strange is given that note and told "It's your wifi password, we're not savages", or when Thor tells Surtur he thought his crown was some big unibrow thing.

I haven't even seen a trailer yet, but if Black Panther is on a line where it can't decide what it wants to be, whether it wants to be fully serious or not, well, I can't say I'm surprised some didn't like it.

I don't recall anyone but Georgie himself actually believing Red Tails was the first all black movie. Woke twitter, even in 2012, had no reason to stan for Lucas, and everyone else was laughing at the notion.

IN their native environment, big cats are sleek, fast and dangerous.

But in Marvel’s ever-expanding super-verse, where the diet is pure popcorn, Black Panther’s natural instincts have become dulled.

The creature has lost its edge.

After Wonder Woman’s critical and commercial success, the time is certainly ripe for an action fantasy about a black superhero helmed by an African American.

But this earnest ethnical cargo cult of a movie, from hot young Hollywood director Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed), fails to deliver — despite a commendable attempt to politicise the genre with a message about the world’s increasingly unfair distribution of wealth.

The problem appears to be a classic case of trying to be all things to all people — and pleasing none.

Black Panther tells a rather dull and longwinded origin story set mainly in the mythical African country of Wakanda, which was struck by a meteorite in the distant past leaving behind copious quantities of the precious mineral vibranium and a glowing, purple heart-shaped power-enhancing herb.

All bar one of the warring tribes in the area agreed to unite under the leadership of the title character’s ancestor, creating a hidden utopia in the vein of Atlantis or Amazonia.

Wakanda’s technologically-advanced kingdom thrived while its neighbours eked out a hand-to-mouth existence right on its doorstep.


The film then flashes forward to the present day.

When King T’Chaka (John Kani) is killed in an explosion, T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) is called home to take his rightful place on the throne.

This changing of the guard draws out a number of power-hungry challengers including Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), a merciless warrior of mysterious origins.

Also out for blood is the villainous South African arms dealer Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis), one of two white characters in the film (Martin Freeman’s CIA agent Everett K. Ross being the other.)

A strong and charismatic ensemble of African-American actors does its bit to breath life into Black Panther.

Boseman’s super king is noble, lithe and soulful and Jordan’s performance as the angry avenger is underpinned by a hard-edged righteousness.

The female characters are similarly powerful.

Lupita Nyong’o shines in the role of Nakia, a Wakanda spy and the Black Panther’s love interest.

Danai Gurira makes a formidable Okoye, general of the Dora Milaje, Black Panther’s all-female army of personal body guards.

Letitia Wright lend a more playful note to Shuri, the title character’s baby sister and Wakanda’s answer to James Bond’s Q.

But the worlds Coogler has created simply do not meld.

The waterfall challenge set piece, for example, feels like something out of Disney’s It's A Small World attraction.

The plotting is predictable and the action sequences for the most part unengaging.

Black Panther is a major disappointment.

(A shout out seems appropriate here for the ABC TV series Cleverman, a sci-fi superhero drama based on Aboriginal Dreamtime stories that was anything but.)

Black Panther opens on Thursday (February 15).

Maybe you haven't seen all of them, but I guarantee you've certainly heard of them and probably even know what they are about, in loose terms, even if you haven't seen them. You might even know quotes from them. This list includes Alien, Rosemary's Baby, and Psycho, three of the greatest horror films ever made. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, a film that defined the western genre, is there. Seven Samurai, a Japanese film that transcended cultural borders and found a huge following elsewhere in the world and led to more people appreciating Japanese cinema, is there. Modern Times, Charlie Chaplin's greatest performance, is there. The Wizard of Oz, one of the first movies to use the Technicolor film process and beloved for its vibrant fantasy worlds, is there. All Quiet on the Western Front, one of the best and most emotional stories of war, is there. Metropolis, a masterwork of the silent film era, is there. And of course Citizen Kane, the movie, is on the list.

So you think a shitty superhero movie whose only claim to fame is having a black cast deserves to share the same esteemed ranks of some of the most important films ever made? Fuck off.

I remember for a long time the original Evil Dead movie was at 100 percent until this one critic here in 2013 gave it a bad rating, and one of the reasons he gave was because of how the women were treated in the original film:

It takes literally 20 seconds to hop onto IMDb, visit a movie's page, and vote it 1/10 for shits and giggles. Far cry from "sad and desperate". "Downvoting Black Panther" is an ironic joke that the progressives started themselves by worshiping a mediocre superhero movie and shoving it in everyone's faces as some paragon of black identity instead of, you know, a movie that actually deals with black social issues and struggles like the 2016 film adaptation of the stage play "Fences". But Fences isn't a happy movie sharted out by Marvel. No, it goes to some really dark places emotionally and doesn't have flashing lights and pretty colors.

At this point laymen are probably voting it a 1 for no reason other than the "posting in a legendary thread" mentality, sort of like everyone who logged into Reddit specifically to downvote that comment from EA a few months ago that became the site's most downvoted post of all time.
