It's quite ironic given he's a Mac fanboy, as Mac is notorious for using closed OS stuff.
A large portion of MacOS' included software is based on tech that is open source, but they can get away with making their brand proprietary so long as they keep developing their own forks completely in-house, thus keeping it proprietary to them.
He's basically arguing against the philosophy of what he's long white knighted.

And there's literally two white men talking to each other in the preview. Haven't even seen the movie, and that interview scene was literally the backdrop for the entire preview, everything else was a cut scene from that scene.

Nothing is perfect, but the best is probably paper ballots used in OCR voting machines, with the paper backup kept. There are also secure cryptographic methods of verifying voting. The problem is it's inevitable that adding security also adds inconvenience, and some percentage of voters invariably accidentally spoil or invalidate their ballots with any method. Adding arcane security procedures to the process is inevitably going to increase spoliation.
So you have to balance cost, convenience, and security. If you increase security at the cost of many voters being inadvertently disenfranchised, you haven't improved the process. I would argue the feds, at least for federal elections, should mandate standardizing voting methods and have one method that is familiar to all voters. OCR forms of the sort used in SAT tests are one of the most familiar thing. Any child has used them at some point.
I could actually sperg on this subject to an exhaustive length, but suffice it to say John is just regurgitating buzzwords he's heard. He knows sweet fuck-all about the subject and what people who actually work on voting systems do. He's right that many states have atrociously shitty voting machines that are so bad they should be considered a constitutional violation of the right to vote. He has no idea how to fix that, though.
