The Secret of Mana stream was to punish his viewers / stream chat. Phil has a habit to make a stream extra-ordinarily boring and the commentary extra-riveting, moreso than usual, when he thinks his viewers did not meet his expectations in "participation" ( = giving him money). He did that in streams like Crash Bandicoot 3 where he refused to make any kind of commentary above repeating the obvious. Don't get me wrong he is boring in general, but once in a while he deliberately sabotages his stream to punish his viewers. He is just that kind of guy.

:autism:, but I'm somewhat looking forward to DSP's take on Getting Over It. The way the game presents itself and talks about its inspirations while you're playing means that it's pretty clearly created to be talked about similarly to how people would talk about art in an exhibition. Different discussions the game's generated about itself and how it was made only adds to the validity of all that.

DSP clearly knows a thing or two about art creation and appreciation, so I can't wait to hear his well thought out analysis on this game.

I agree. The things he says regarding subs are so oddly fascinating. For example:

"Alright guys, we gotta seriously start do something about the subs. The subs are seriously dipping like crazy. We gotta do something. We are way far away from our goal."

Who is this directed toward? If I'm checking out his stream for the first time, that quote is just going to baffle me. I don't even know if I like this stream yet and he's trying to stress me about subscribing? And if I'm a current fan, then I'm probably already a subscriber. What does he expect me to do to get him more subs? He's the one producing the service, not me.

Maybe he expects his current subscribers to continually gift subs month after month. It does nothing towards his goal of "growth" because the gift subs are artificial growth: one-time hits being given to chat trolls and nightbot by exasperated fans. Those recipients are not going to legitimately subscribe after their gift subs expire.

And I think his sub earnings are split 50/50 with Twitch, whereas I'm pretty sure his Patreon split is much more in his favor. He's asking his fans to do more work so he can receive less money. That is so mindbogglingly stupid it bears repeating:

Okay how about if you pledge $5 or more on Patreon you get to pick the console. Then if you sub to twitch you get to pick the genre. Then whoever tips him $100 will get an empty game box mailed to them with DSP's signiture on a dirty napkin.

I'm glad one of his viewers made this suggestion. If Phil stays true to himself then I'm not sure the piping network can handle this amount of flushed down supporters. On the other hand there are enough people who wants to see Phil flail to his fail and throw money at him. We will see.
