Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I pretty much expect that when he becomes the writer for Superman that he's going to give Jon a love interest based on his daughter (like Riri was). That would get him headlines and credit for making a "Lois Lane" for Superman's son.

It's going to be weird.
They already kinda have that character in Kathy (Spoiler: she's an alien):

I sure can't wait for exciting Bendis-Speak in my Action Comics. Who needs any action that doesnt involve 2 or more people talking? Amirite?

Kathy is closer to a Lana than a Lois. Either way, I shouldn't make this thread more :offtopic:.

Yes, and those "mediocre comics about white straight cis dudes" end up rotting on the shelves too. Of course, if these cunts weren't fake geek girls, they'd know that the comics industry nearly tanked in the 90s because comic book stores got flooded with them. The big guns tried a slew of gimmicks to push these books (glow in the dark and metallic covers), but it only delayed the inevitable. History is repeating itself, except now the publishers are pushing out mediocre comics about non-white, non-straight trans women, and the gimmick is the writers got hired because they farted out some Mary Sue fanfic on Tumblr.

I just got to thinking, is this a new Rat King? Seems to me like the people in this cap (and many others) are are members of the LGBTQ community who use their position, influence, and connections for personal gain.

It's a new Rat King until you inevitably find that one of their tails links to the main Rat King. It always happens.

Funny that Jess decides to name drop Ms. Marvel, because what I remember from what comic shop owners were saying about sales figures Ms. Marvel actually had a respectable fanbase with modest but consistent sales numbers; but in the last year or so the fans started dropping like flies over her book constantly being hijacked by shitty crossover event since Civil War 2, to the point that Ms. Marvel was rarely the focus on her own story anymore.

But I'm sure Jess is completely aware of that and totally didn't just pull Ms. Marvel out of her ass because that's the only diverse character she actually knows by name... Right?

And I can't comment on Snotgirl because I personally never read it, but if the Goodreads reviews are anything to go by it's the kind of comic that only seems to be interesting to the type of people who think some vapid Valley Girl who's entire career revolves around taking selfies and blogging about fashion and whose only real problem seems to be "allergies" is riveting material. So make of that what you will.

Ms. Marvel hasn't actually been in Ms. Marvel for a bit now. The last couple of issues has been Kamala's friends cosplaying as her in an attempt to fill the void and teaming up with that hero she met in Pakistan, Red Dagger. If you pick up a new issue you're more likely going to see some fat white girl in a Ms. Marvel costume comically fall off a building or the one black guy friend pretending to be...Ms. Marvel. No Kamala Khan to be seen.

Champions still has her but not really her own book. Also I pity anyone who wants to put up with Mark Waid's "How do you do, fellow kids?" act.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Ms. Marvel herself has been a no-show for 3 issues straight (4 by the looks of the next issue's previews), enjoy:

The first cover you showed is funny because basically none of those people are in the book. The 2nd one is more accurate to the current content. Those four cosplayers + Red Dagger (who isn't on the cover), no Kamala.

Reminds of the time Matt Fraction had the brilliant idea of splitting his run of Hawkeye between Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, with Clint being the focus in even numbered issues and Kate the focus in odd numbered issues. But then he had the additional brilliant idea of doing this POV split right after an issue where Clint got shot in the fucking head, and then Kate ended up being the focus for three issues in a row because the regular artist couldn't get his shit together; so they had to keep releasing the odd issues out of order. By the time they finally managed to push out a Clint issue, the sales had tanked because so many people got sick of stopping by only to go "oh it's just fucking Kate again."

Except this is worse because at least when the trades came out you could skip over the Kate volume and get right into Clint's (disappointing) conclusion. But 4 issues of Ms. Marvel's friends cosplaying with no Ms. Marvel means there's gonna be nearly a whole trade worth of this shit you're gonna have to sift through in order to get back to reading the character you're paying money to read about.

hahaha what are they thinking

why are they trying so hard to alienate their biggest demo by an order of magnitude at least, namely young white men who aren't going anywhere and will have far more disposable cash than any other young demo for the forseeable future

That just sums up the incompetence of Marvel right now. 'All our diverse comics are tanking except for this one...I know, let's remove the character that people are actually liking from the story!'

The Next stage of MoveTheNeedle, brief explanation: each month D&C reads through the Previews catalog and chooses 3-5 comics and recommends that everyone pre-orders them to see a spike in the sale numbers for those specific books.

TL;DW He picked these books:
