Zaush / Adam Wan - Popular furry artist with a penchant for being rapey & an ego that could black out the sun

The guy you mentioned apparently owns two websites that fit the "Furry ______" naming convention, but Furry Network isn't one of them.

As for FN, I guess it just did not pan out the way they wanted. It had a strong launch but was missing some features and I guess people just grew disinterested. You're right in that navigation is kind of hard though.
Furry Network collapsed for the same reason other non-furry "alternative social media" websites do all the time. Furaffinity has all the artists and content, and even when artists leave Furaffinity, they go to Tumblr or Twitter because they know non-furries go there and can give them that exposure they crave so much.

Yeah, it's creepy. However, all real artists use reference images of some sort, and porn artists are no exception. Adult references don't really work perfectly when drawing children, and that's what this whole thing is about... Zaush was being commissioned to draw a ten year old character getting fucked. That's a nigh impossible task to pull off in an anatomically correct way without entering the creepy territory.

There's a really easy way to pull it off without entering creepy territory.

You say, "No."

Holy shit, Zaush's pedophilia awareness went from 0 to 100 fast.

If you don't want people to think you're cool with cub porn maybe don't get into a relationship with one of the most notorious cub porn artists in the fandom.
Nonetheless good on her for getting out of the relationship.

Ah, a novel and perfectly workable solution, but the premise was that the artist would create the art in question... and countless artists indeed do, without receiving overwhelming hate for this choice. There's a massive demand for cub art, after all, and it helps pay the bills.

Similar moral dilemma exists for anatomically correct animals, but nobody seems to care when artists reference real animal dicks when making their porn. The community seems to widely accept (or at least tolerate) art that aims for extreme levels of anatomical correctness, even when that's obviously impossible to achieve without using reference pictures or - *gasp* - a live model.

I'm sure many furry artists would be gravely offended if anyone dared to suggest that using photo references of dog dicks/vaginas meant they're zoophiles and wanted to fuck dogs. Are they in denial, or is it possible to use photo references for porn without wanting to fuck whatever is in the photo?

Are you really fucking trying to defend this guy using children as a reference to draw into his pornographic comic and for other people's fap characters under "B-but other furry artists reference dog dicks to draw!"

Yeah, and the general consensus here is that's gross as well, but are you really equating an animal with a human child? That "Oh it's the same thing so Zaush can reference kids for his porn comics." Is that really the hole you want to dig for yourself?

The main difference here being that pictures of animal genitals are not illegal, whereas child pornography is.

"It was just for reference, I swear!" won't get you very far as a legal defense.

You can study and learn how to draw children from reference without having to sexualise them. Part of reference and study is training yourself how to draw shit from memory and utilizing your imagination to do so.

You don't just directly copy a photo of a kid and plop it down into your degenerative porn.

Ah, I forgot that furries are a minority here, it's my first day here you see. I meant the furry community has double standards regarding this.

I think he has separate accounts for his characters, and that one is only for ones involving the Cobalt character. Chloe has a ton of artwork (some of it from fairly expensive artists) on other accounts.

WTF? CobaltDawg actually has TWO characters named Chloe?? I was assuming they talked about the feral dog one, since they also mention "bri" which can only refer to "Briannah".

Here's the other one, NSFW:

Ah, I admit I made a bad comparison. My point would've stood the same (or better) even without a mention of dog genitalia, so the actual child pornography would've never entered the equation. Sorry about that.

I'm not trying to compare animals to children, or zoophilia to pedophilia. I'm just drawing an analogy between these two statements:

Referencing child photos when drawing porn = sexualization of real children, pedophilia.
Referencing animal photos when drawing porn = sexualization of real animals, zoophilia.

It seems my point kinda falls short, though, since the community here isn't all furries. You see, no furry is accusing Zaush of zoophilia, even though they accuse him of pedophilia. Hell, Zaush even had an argument about this a mere month ago with someone who was uncomfortable about cub art...

I 100% agree. The thing is, that the furry community, as a whole, seems to be pretty okay with 'cub' porn. It's commonly found on furry sites, and discussed and sold at furry conventions. They get mad when you point out to them that wanting to fuck a toddler wolf is fucked up pedophilia, because they've invented words like 'cub' to make them not seem like fucking diddlers.

I am not a furry, but my understanding is the furry community also has a tacit acceptance of zoophiles as well. They don't like to advertise it, but there seems to be plenty of people who have expressed their interest in dog-lust and have not been instantly shamed out of the community.

Basically, I feel there is a potentially large group of people who have found the 'furry' community solely because it allows them to express and profit off sexual desires that would instantly get them removed from any other social group. Zaush is apparently one, and he is confident enough that he associates his real name with his drawings of underage animals.

So far as my experience goes (:powerlevel:) with the furry community online at least, is that most cubfurs tend to get away with a lot of their artwork and commissions by pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable and keep their depravities in the undertones of the art (like humiliation diaper play etc), or in loopholes like "totally aged up guys, even with a body like a 9 year old!" so that they can screech "WE'RE ALL SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE WHY AM I BEING SINGLED OUT" if called out on it. The fur community is one of the least subtle about their particular fetishes and so furfags that are willing to draw this shit (and draw it well) are put up on pedestals pretty quickly... So I'm not surprised it's taken this long for Zaush to be called out by the community.

Not that it'll go anywhere. Give it a month and Zaush will still be drawing his kiddy diddling comics and his Patreon will still be as strong as ever.

Not sure how okay it really is, the cub art is virtually only allowed on inkbunny with other sites having it banned and all.

Mostly due to legal and financial reasons. For example FurAffinity only banned cubs after their payment processor terminated their account due to the legal gray area. I got the impression that the payment processor refused to give the money back in a timely fashion unless they changed their site policies, so it was either cub ban or the entire site goes bye bye.

Considering how Zaush's cub comic is allowed on the site, it's clear they're only paying lip service and not actually committed to the rules or the morals they're trying to portray.

Maybe somewhat. The only place that allows cub porn is InkBunny (you could also say e621, but that’s more of a database than anything), and when a fanzine themed around cub shit was produced, it was instantly banned from being sold almost every convention, especially the big ones. If that stuff is done and discussed at conventions, it’s in no way authorized or endorsed and more furries find that stuff sick than not.

a kickstarter for another furry art site that’ll die after a month? ok.
the reason why FA still dominates is because it has more traffic, all the other sites that popped up during the exodus just died off because they don’t have that same traffic.

The way the fandom currently operates is that cub art is generally kicked under the rug. Yeah, InkBunny is technically the only place where you can specifically get away with it scot-free, but as this thread demonstrates FurAffinity is absolutely willing to look the other way or intentionally not pay attention to these issues by handwaving matters away with boilerplate excuses. Likewise, there does not seem to be any actual rules one way or the other on SoFurry either, as you can straight up plop "cub" into the search bar and bring up all sorts of artwork and stories pertaining to it. Furry Network does not disallow cub art either, however when they were confronted about this their solution was to automatically add the tag "cub" to everyone's default content filter (which the person can then remove at their discretion). They didn't do anything about the art itself. (I am not sure what Weasyl's stance on the matter is as I never used their website, and don't even know if it's still around.)

In regards to convention stuff I believe many conventions try to ban that kind of content, but it gets through anyways under the "ask for forgiveness, not permission" train of thought. Cub artists know full well that if they ask con staff if they can bring their art they're going to be told no, so they do it without asking and when they get caught usually pull some BS "sorry I didn't know it won't happen again" routine.

What really ought to happen these days, and I feel like I'm going to sound crazy for thinking this, is that the fandom really should have it's own universal "sex predator" list. A repository of artists and people who either create or engage in subject matter that is considered morally questionable or offensive, like cub art. As long as it's managed in black and white terms there's no risk of bias, and this database could then be used by conventions and other fandom community efforts to immediately weed out creeps from even registering for the events because they'd be caught right away and denied. I realize this isn't a perfect system though. :(

Preventing people from uploading cub art, enforcing content rules evenly, and barring known sexual predators from conventions requires having non-biased and responsible staff members. Staff would need to exhibit a degree of professionalism and integrity that's been conspicuously absent from any major furry undertaking. The furry fandom as a whole has been failing spectacularly at this for over 20 years. It's not going to start cleaning up now. The animals are running the zoo.
