The tenor of this doomsaying post tells me something that is both amusing and depressingly ignorant.
The amusing thing about it as that all these national leaders might be nationalist and populist, but that doesn't make them "far-right". Leftist politicians would be considered the same in countries where they benefit from national pride and popular politics being flogged as political platforms.
The depressing thing is how these idiots are so ignorant they conflate nationalism and populism as BAD.
Nationalism doesn't have to be bigoted in nature. In fact, there are liberal interpretations of nationalism, like civic nationalism, that emphasize the benefits of a nation to all who who are citizens and encourage them to seek pride in those benefits.
Donald Trump, for example, he has appealed to this brand of nationalism with his "Make America Great Again". His hard line against ILLEGAL immigrants does not mar this at all, it's actually consistent with the liberal interpretation, as he wants to encourage a feeling of national pride in all citizens who have a legal status consistent with legally being a citizen or being naturalized.
Illegals are actually citizens of another nation fraudulently benefiting from another by fiat, so his hard line against them is not an act of bigotry, it's a matter of both law and reinforcing nationalist values.
And to borrow another American example, populism was first in vogue amongst the LEFT in America, it's why we have an entire era of politics referred to as the Populist era, and in that day and age, it was the Republicans who were resistant to such political stances.
