I think Doug's biggest problem when it comes to producing NC videos is his reliance on forcing jokes on his audience; and this is something that's been present from Day 1 IMO.

During his initial run, you had Of Course, Chuck Norris, Big Lipped Alligator Moment, just to name a few; but I don't think anyone but outright sycophants would deny that the most embarrassing backfire was his "Frying The Coke" forced meme.

Now, instead of recurring jokes, you have recurring characters, like Devil Boner, Hyper Fan-Girl, and perhaps the epitome of unfunny, Bill. I remember a Christmas episode of his (Christmas With The Kranks I think?) where he criticised his old self for repeating the same jokes and content...when he's doing exactly the same thing today, the only difference being he's using a different means to force humour.

I like Doug in all honesty. I want for him and NC to succeed, he's head and shoulders above most of the TGWTG lolcows already on here and I understand producing a comedy show on a weekly basis for a big fanbase is a big task. But Doug hasn't learnt that trying to force comedy is more likely going to get people laughing at you, than with you.

Didn't he also have reoccurring characters in his older videos like Santa Christ, Dr. Smith, Casper and Douchy McNitpick? How are they any different (or any less shitty) than his current batch of reoccurring characters?

Fuck, when was the last time he even used any of those either?

They were less common. Even when they did appear, it's not as if episodes revolved around them constantly; they'd appear, say something that was usually unfunny, and then disappear. Even in his Lost In Space review (which sucked), the whole Dr Smith thing didn't take complete control of the episode. I'd also argue there was something less forced about them; Doug is hamstrung in having to use his actors now, which makes it appear a lot more forced, and a lot more unfunny. Nothing is worse than forcing humour.

Does Doug even do one-off characters anymore? Remember Dr. Bitch-Spasms? He straight up killed him off at the end of the Patch Adams review, and as far as I know, he hasn't used him since. If Doug had done that Patch Adams review just a few years later, we might have gotten Dr. Bitch-Spasms as a reoccurring character.

Some fantastic spaghetti is being spilled on Twitter at the mo.
