TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

I'm a little late, but I just had to comment on Tony Skidmark's Tweets about Channel Autism burning down. He's one of the newer CA sperg, brought in to help fill the void of Lupa and Phelous leaving the site. His whole shtick is reviewing theme park attractions, chiefly Disney attractions, but since it's Channel Autism he does the "angry critic" thing.

He's one of my personal favorite lolcows, and he has a MASSIVE ego and is a Social Justice Warrior because in real life he's a terrible human being and treated his ex-wife like shit during their marriage. Y'know, like most male SJWs.

His ego is on full display here, as is the whole "Tweeting about Social Justice to hide what a shit person I am" deal. I just love how he's trying to excuse himself from being part of CA while also exercising his ego with his Tweets of "I TOLD them they needed to apologize a long time ago! I TOLD them, but they didn't heed my important advice! It isn't MY fault because this all happened before I came on the site, and I TOLD them! You can't blame me for this, because I TOLD them and they wouldn't listen to me! I might leave because they didn't listen when I TOLD them!" I just have to laugh at Goldymark squirming about this while trying to save face and act like he was trying to bring about change from the inside, much like Linkara did. Only Linky put his money where his mouth is and left, whereas Skidmark wants them views and dollars, so he won't leave until he feels like he absolutely MUST.
And by "must", that'll be when Mike decides to DELETE FUCKING EVERYTHING to screw everyone over, right?

In one of the threads discussing Doug, somebody suggested that the reason some of his reviews have a 'premiere' in a local movie theater was so he could feel he 'made it' as a filmmaker ('The Next Spielberg'). I get the same vibe from his thumbnails on the actor/performer side.

It's bad enough when Doug inserts himself into a movie poster as if he's suppose to be there:

But it's way worse when he photoshops his head on an actual actor's body. It's the kind of thing that's somewhat amusing when a child does it but it's flat out sad when a man pushing 40 actively does this.

Oh god, they're more saturated then theme park ride pictures.
My question is, why the fuck is all this dirty laundry being aired out now? This stuff happened years ago and only now are these ex reviewers talking about it
Simple, it's connected to Channel Awesome burning down right now.

I'm sure all those single parents struggling to make ends meet immediately turned off their AdBlock once they heard the plight of someone who makes money reading comic books in a nasally voice.
Is the income of the people working at Channel Awesome supplemented by their parents?
I highly doubt most of the people there (asides Doug) could pay for rent, food, utility, etc. with just the earnings from ad revenue/sponsorship deals.

Am I the only one that feels that anonymous grooming post seemed a little iffy? I'm not going to say he/she was lying, but it came off really forced.

It opens with "My body was 18 but my mind was 16 at best!" so, yeah. It's very forced by trying to say she was still a kid in her head. Like every other dumb fucking 18 year old I've come across.

She was clearly a groupie who later grew up a bit and got squicked out.

To be fair this is something that a lot of YouTube channels do, including let's players.
That's god damn sad.
I can understand doing it for the Anniversary videos (as awful as they may be), but for a 20-40 minute movie review or a let's play?
That's the most narcissistic shit I've heard in quite a while.

Jesus, does Mike Michaud just go out of his way to act like a cartoon supervillain?
I say it's a deadly cocktail of incompetence, social awkwardness that made him try and avoid talking to people directly (even if he had to fire them), a lack of empathy for those working for him, and good old fashioned spergery.

Basically, he was an autist who didn't know how to deal with people, but had a job that was almost exclusively dealing with a bunch of people and making important managerial decisions that could potentially fuck with their livelihood. A recipe for disaster.

he also announced to everyone that he was going to eat it like a fucking cartoon character.

This perfectly sums up what screw is loose in Doug Walker's head (and others)... their entire method of expressing thoughts to the outside world appears to be based on a premise that there is an audience watching or that they are the star of a show. All the world is a stage, as it goes; and these people believe it through and through.

I'm sure that when it becomes clear to Skidmark that he can no longer justify being a member of Channel Autism and that if he continues to be affiliated with him that the SocJustards and Feminazis, those people that Tony has tried so hard to suck up to in order to hide what a shitty person he is, will turn on him and be screaming (i.e.: Tweeting in ALL CAPS) for his blood...I'm sure before it gets to that point that Tony will jump ship to save his skin. After all, his mother's trust fund isn't going to last forever and if internet people turn on him then that means he will have to get a real job.

This. Additionally, I think with his position essentially being the tard-wrangler for a bunch of 20-something year old women and man-children, the signal to noise ratio on what was actually important business concerns as opposed to everyday spergery like "Stop GammerGoogles Reeeee!!!!" (looking at you, Lindsay Ellis) helped shape his overly dismissive and emotionally removed attitude—along with his desire to play Call of Duty and not do work. This attitude I think can be best observed in the official Nonpology Channel Awesome has put forth in essentially stating: "We're sorry you felt there was a problem."

I can't tell if that's a rhetorical question, but a decent amount of contributors seemed to either live on their own or with roommates/friends. Though I believe Lupa lived with her parents while she was still with CA/while she was having midroll drama with the higher-ups but has since moved into her own apartment.

A better question would seemingly be what is the actual business arrangement between Channel Awesome and the Autists... I mean “content creators”? What I mean is how do any of them make money? As near as I can tell Channel Awesome doesn’t pay them anything. They get their money from YouTube or Blip etc advertising. Channel Awesome is just an advertising and marketing service for their content. If anything they pay CA a piece of ad revenue to pimp them. They. Aren’t regular employees. They aren’t even contractors. They are at best some sort of business partner. It’s the living embodiment of “a fool and his money...”

This is embarrassing, but back when they first started I was in middle school, and I had wanted to be a part of the site. I never seriously pursued it or anything, it never went beyond "wouldn't it be cool if I made videos on there?" I was a big fan of Doug, before I got older and realized what a sperg he is.

In hindsight, it's probably a good thing I never joined, for a number of reasons.

In an alternate timeline, there's probably a thread about you and your spergy videos!

I know this is late tech spergery but Doug Walker's worst offense is forcing people to use Skype as their only means of work-related video communication, communication period. Clearly Skype existed before fucking emails were a thing.
His worst offense isn't being the deciding vote to fire their competent yet ailing one-woman HR?

That, I just don't get. Either Doug got bullied into it, or he has a hidden ruthless streak after all.
