This is a textbook case of pedophilia. You need to be careful with how you talk to him because of his warped sense of pedo-reality. Pedophiles see themselves as victims and they don't see what they want to do to children as bad or terrible in any way. From their fucked sense of perspective the child either wants to be molested or needs to be molested and so to them it's not "hurting kids". So like when he goes on about how he doesn't want to harm or hurt kids he doesn't mean that he has no intent to try and molest them, simply that he doesn't see molesting as hurting or harming them.

Pedophiles are also predatory in nature, that's why there's no such thing as a "virtuous pedophile", because they're only putting on a good show as a means of building trust and complacency so that they can get to the kids. This is why pedos often go for positions like teachers and priests, because those positions are inherently centered around trust, which is easiest to exploit when it comes to such predatory behavior.

It is their inherent nature to molest children, they are predatory and opportunistic and worst of all they see themselves as victims.
