Formerly permabanned FYAD superstar general anime used to spam "baba booey" in the Howard Stern podcast thread, which lornekates moderated. He (and anyone) were allowed to post baba booey only if he could keep up posting that phrase every single day. He missed a big chunk of days, so posting baba booey in that thread became a punishable offense, and so when he came back to post it and add some sassing of lornekates, GA caught a ban and a 30-day probation.

That was totally unacceptable to FYAD. At first the FYAD ik dionysian and moderator jack daniels tried to abuse the (really backwards and awful) moderation system by replacing general anime's 30-day probation with a 1-day, and then 3-day ones, but it didn't stick after lornekates noticed the abuses and reiterated the 30-day probation. So a group of FYAD posters began internet detective-ing lornekates and PMing him with "baba booey." Eventually he decided that moderating the podcast subforum for free wasn't worth being harassed, and quit.

Well they do now, but I'd assume they aren't going to eat a ban for a few weeks cause the mods will probably say "it's not enough proof" as they have done in the past until it's enough people calling em out on it.

Reminds me of the time the mods refused to ban Sarah Nyberg for ages until finally giving in.

Fun Fact: The avatar Nyberg used on Something Awful was a picture of a little girl. Some brave soul reverse Google Image Searched the avatar, and one of the few other places it appeared was on a Russian pedo forum.

We all talk a lot about how forums like SA are fucked because of the echo chamber politicking and while that's completely true, I'm kind of surprised now that I haven't seen as much examination given to this other phenomenon: exactly what the fuck is it with this gimmick moderation? Imagine if @Dunsparce or whatever mod sauntered into this thread with some immature bullshit like "this Wednesday, every member who uses the letter E more than once in any post will catch a one-week ban". Even if you take PC bullshit out of the equation - even if you take out the favoritism shown to mod butt-buddies who obviously aren't held to the rules! - you're left with a bunch of people who seem to think role-playing Heath Ledger's Joker is the best way to mod a forum. Built up over years that has to have contributed at least as much to the animosity and tribalist balkanization of the forum's population as the fight for the right side of history has. Meanwhile on the evil K Farms, Null's rules basically amount to "don't be a moron"and they're enforced fairly, and surprise surprise we can actually have different kinds of people here without the walls falling down.

But then again, maybe treating mods like hunters and members like wild game in a forum where every re-reg is money in the owner's pocket was a deliberate business strategy, and now they're fucked because the world changed and lowtax was too lazy to change with it.

They were so busy congratulating themselves for helping spam illegal shit on 8chan that they never stopped to consider that they were acknowledging being in possession of it in the first place. It's like buying cocaine, sprinkling it all over your neighbor's porch, and calling the police while there's still cocaine all over your hands.

A long, long time ago it was pretty much Kiwi Farms. Then cat ladies and troons pozzed it the fuck up.

You know the reactions people have to finding out somebody is a member of the farms, that use to be goons in the early 2000's. It's why I've came to really like this place, plus it's cheaper!

It's going to devolve into slap fights cause gamergate is still evil for people like Ash Crimson. Only reason that thread is still standing is because it was made by Lowtax, it might not be that one but I know the mods shut one of his threads down and he opened it back up and basically said, "Keep this thread open or I'll ban you".
