TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

Probably because your minor complaints were so pathetic Mike tiddyfucking Michaud managed to prove you lied about the rape scene, and context shows you got pissy and left over someone who had the cops called on them for downloading literal child porn as part of a limp-wristed sting operation.

"B-b-but you don't get it! Sure, he downloaded and shared CP, but he was trying to get rid of bad people with it!"

I swear, I had to be shown screenshots of this fiasco because I just couldn't believe someone would think up a plan this stupid and honestly think he was in the right.

That’s part of the problem? I get why they added her - wanted the full list - but they ordered it in a way that seeminly put everything on equal footing.

Although that still doesn’t excuse all the other shitty things that Michaud has done that he can’t refute.

No problem. This thread got dark, so it’s good to remember that we’re here to laugh, not to angst too much.

No kidding. Actually sprained my wrist this afternoon while working on renovations for my apartment, so yeah, I really needed this, lol.

You know, I just realized something. Right now, CA fanboys (current and former) are fighting amongst themselves, turning on each other... All on a site site that was used to bring content creators and their fans together.

And then there's us. A site known for shitposting, trolls, and causing mischief... All coming together to share a laugh and make fun of all the chaos.

I think the most apt description I've ever heard of improv is that it was the pyramid scheme of comedy - everybody shelled out for seminars, workshops and venues while they all go to each others' shows and convince each other how great it all is. 0.001% of the scene goes on to fame and fortune, and everyone else just lines the pockets of the people giving the seminars and supplying the venue, only the people giving the seminars also shell out their money to attend seminars themselves.

Vloggers, online personalities, etc., had for awhile basically replaced improv as the next pyramid scheme of comedy as That Guy With The Glasses and other online reviewers became popular - a couple of capable people with some talent and the rest are the socially broken who think this is the chance for their "wacky" (read: irritating) personalities to come through to entertain the masses.

Like any pyramid scheme, there was a handful of people with a legitimate base and legit money from it as well, and the rest have 60 subscribers because they in turn subscribe to those 60 people, all the while hoping their subscribing and commenting and sucking up to the big names will get their name in lights too.

There's always beauty in backstabbing and violence. Right now, it's just time to roll up, lay back in a lawn chair, munch on popcorn and drink beer.

Doug's got an exaggerated version of a core of comedy. "Comedy=Suffering" is a bit exaggerated. While it's true that a joke is typically at the expense of something, be it someone's time, dignity, or wellness, that expense is generally less "suffering" and more "cause and effect".

It's called "The butt end of a joke" for a reason. Something is receiving that "butt", however that doesn't necessarily come at the expense at present company. Look at it this way;

Two guys are sitting in an office. One of them tells a joke about female drivers and they both laugh. The "butt" of the joke are female drivers, but in present company, neither of the guys were subjected to suffering, yet there's still comedy to be had. Doug's rational that "someone has to suffer" is this taken too literally. In the context of the example I provided, Doug probably would have had one of the guys chocking on water or something and called that the joke and that's his problem. It's almost like to him, a joke doesn't register or count if it isn't blatantly conveyed, which is actually kind of an actual wrong way to approach comedy.

A better example would be Abbott an Costello's brand of comedy. I'd like to see how Doug would explain away how "Who's On First?" is an expression of schadenfreude.

Has nobody been capping the comments on their "ACCUSATION VS FACT" blog post? C'mon, the comments are always the best part!

Everything about this is absolutely the perfect storm. Just this one comment chain is a pièce de résistance unto itself. The mods are clearly no longer moderating comments, as evidenced by the fact that someone who posted the word "autism" as an insult hasn't had their comment deleted. Now, you might think that since he's so loose with the slurs, he must be an outsider commenting from within, possibly from 4chan as would be your natural assumption, stepping on the company's throat to make the death rattle squeakier, peeing on the headstone even, but no, it's a Nostalgia Critic fanboy blaming Channel Awesome's downfall on other fans for believing Obscurus Lupa over Mike Michaud. The not-limpwristed pussies then proceed to drop their not-pathetic, totally le ebin comebacks at their feet just like limpwristed pussies, at which point they swing and miss each other's high fives, only to have the wetest of all blankets wag his moralfaggy finger at them for combating a stereotype with another stereotype. Then another braindead hole appears to give a lecture to Travoltron on his literary misuse of the word autism.

And this is just the beginning.

All of my sides.

A self-aware autist is still an autist.

God, every last one of these people are complete morons.

Honest question, why the fuck do autists always have to capitalize "autism" as if they're talking about something holy? Is it an autism pride thing?

The NC stans are still being entertaining during all this.

I'm pretty sure that people were making fun of the NC content before this drama went down. Also if you didn't freak out over dumb stuff like this, nobody would make fun of you.
Nostalgia Critic sure attracts......interesting people.

These people are so fucking stupid that they think they can hold the moral high ground and pull an "end justifies the means" play at the same time (hint: you can't).

This is why idiotic ideas like Olson's seem to be tried and were tried over and over during the whole Anti-GG fiasco and autism storm. The end result is we all constantly call Dan Olson a child pornographer who once cost a major media company a six figure sum. Which weakened their resource stream allowing other people to be able to attack them.

Conditions/diseases are usually only capitalized if they're named after a person. Autism technically doesn't have to be capitalized, but I suppose some people like to because it's a large part of their identity or they want to take ownership of it.

I'm wondering how many of these 'autists' have actual autism. I understand the 'online' definition of autism (which I'm not entirely convinced doesn't come from society giving every kid a trophy, not allowing kids to hear honest, valid criticism during their school years, an overly PC society and kids/young adults (even full grown adults) having flame wars online rather than actually dealing with problems face to face), but I feel like there's also a difference between an actual diagnosis of a developmental disorder and just being an asshole. In some cases, it may be an actual diagnosis, but the person never the proper therapies or learned how to deal with the real world. Full disclosure: I have a family member with severe autism and while I would love it if the world would change and adapt to him so he's comfortable...it's not going to. That's just a fact. So my family makes sure he has all the skills he possibly can in order to navigate the world the best he can. ::steps off soapbox::

EDIT: A perfect example of someone who has autism (Asperger's technically, but it's still part of the autism spectrum) and never got any coping skills is Chris Chan. His parents refused to acknowledge he had a developmental disorder, pushed him through mainstream schools, he never got skills or therapies or strategies to help him cope with the world...and look at him now.

That's how it always is, isn't it? We're here to have a good time, we don't need to drag anyone down for it. There's plenty of lols to go around. Lolcows get mad at us for bullying or something, but we don't actually harass anyone, we're just here for the fun. It's more pure than fandoms.

Ideologues believe their ideology outweighs anything else. Child porn isn't bad because it spreads manipulation of children, it's bad because THE ENEMY likes it. If you're a good person who uses child porn to fight the fight against bad people, they don't even see how that could be construed as contradictory, that's just how the world works to them. There aren't good actions and bad actions, just good and bad people.

These tweets were posted on the Spoony thread by RJ MacReady and I think they're relevant here:

He's also indirectly replied to the Channel Awesome drama for the first time:

For those of you who don't know, Fard Muhammad is one of Doug's friends who's been working with him ever since The Uncanny Valley: he's the one who does a lot of the CG effects and the intro for the Nostalgia Critic, and he was involved in Dragonbored and Pop Quiz Hotshot as an actor (and he originally auditioned for Malcolm's part in Demo Reel).

From Fard's tweet, one could come to the conclusion that Doug hasn't left Channel Awesome and has no plans of doing so. Which means, instead of doing the right thing and saving the last shred of dignity and goodwill he has left by quitting Channel Awesome and abandoning Michaud, he'd much rather side with people who were actively covering up a rapist for 5 years.

Why this is the case, I see three options:

1. Doug was directly involved in the JewWario coverup himself and knows that if he quits Michaud will spill the dirt on him, which would be the final nail in his career
2. Doug is a disgusting greedy fuck who would rather condone protecting sexual predators than lose some income by potentially losing the Nostalgia Critic IP
3. Doug is legitimately exceptional and doesn't see why associating himself with Michaud makes it look like he fully supports these actions

I'm seriously beginning to think that Doug was WAY more involved in covering up Justin than we think, if Channel Awesome is the hill he's willing to die on. What possible other reason could he have for siding with a company whose reputation has been dragged throught he mud and most people already know what they did?

I guess they've said "fuck it" and minified the Shows navbar

They've also removed the anniversary movies, along with Shut Up and Talk and Video Game Confessions. The same menu on April 23:

Searching any of the anniversary movies doesn't yield the movies themselves, only Doug's reviews of them.

Hopefully more drama comes to light soon, because it seems as if the sub loss has finally bottomed out.

I noticed that myself. Probably all dead accounts that subscribed years ago. Too bad, because I've never seen a YouTube channel drop from seven digits of subs to six. Only 20K or so to go, too. :(
