I only became acquainted with him when a clip of that stream with Metokur tossing the Molotov from Karen Straughan came up in my recommended. My initial and enduring impression was that he was a pseudo-intellectual paper tiger. This thread's pretty much confirmed that suspicion.

One thing that annoys me is the belief that possessing a large set of technical and specialist knowledge makes you a) by default more intelligent than your interlocutors and b) gives you greater authority to comment on public affairs.

You aren't. I think those beliefs are at the heart of his arrogance and fragility.

I agree. Conceding that JF may actually have a good deal of intelligence to allow him to systemise in the domain of biology, that doesn't necessarily - despite the aspirations of many an autist - enhance the validity of his arguments.

As much as people rightfully shit on MPC, I think Pleasureman's essay on this topic (forgive the irony of responding to a critique of the use of word salads with a link to an essay) hits the nail on the head regarding the neuroses of people like JF on both the left and the right.

Not to derail but my favorite Cantwell moment (aside from the crying Nazi episode) was a podcast he did with Mike Enoch. He apologized for being thirty minutes late. His excuse for tardiness was that he was driving and a school bus driver with a bus full of kids “wouldn’t let him in the lane” and he was stopped by the cops because he had gotten out of his car and approached the bus to curse the driver out, scaring the shit out of the kids.
