It never stops being funny to me how SJWs and those who align themselves with SJWs are constantly showing the world how privileged they are. Sterling takes the time to edit together an entire video about how people wanting to get the most time out of their purchases are idiots. Because everyone spends hundreds of dollars on video games each month in order to stay current, right?

It never stops being funny to me how SJWs and those who align themselves with SJWs are constantly showing the world how privileged they are. Sterling takes the time to edit together an entire video about how people wanting to get the most time out of their purchases are idiots. Because everyone spends hundreds of dollars on video games each month in order to stay current, right?

I remember that I used to judge a game based on how many hours of entertainment I got out of it compared to how much it cost, back during the 7th gen of consoles when pre-owned games could easily drop below ten quid. Nowdays it's harder to do that.

I do think that the "hour for every dollar" approach is partly why we've seen a massive influx in open world games over the last few years, alongside general consumer backlash to AAA tripe like The Order 1886 that could be finished in less than five hours.

When you're in the 'progressive' circle It's probably easy to brush off these people abusing some game developer who you don't know and who you disagree with politically anyway, even if you somewhere deep inside feel that something is wrong. Sterling and a bunch of other critics don't seem to understand that, for people that only have enough money to buy a few games, that metric IS important. It's why he couldn't fathom people liking Mad Max. To him it was another in a glut of open world time-wasting products, but the people who bought it for pleasure probably did so as their one game they planned on playing until they were done with it, not as a job or until the next weekend when they would buy another game. Even people who have money but little time might just want to start up a familiar game they can just pick up and put back down 20 minutes later instead of shopping around and deciding which narrative-heavy indie game they should take a chance on. It's not a good single metric to base a purchase on but it's good to have. He really seems to have trouble getting out of his own head (or pulling his head out) on these issues.

And anyone that fucking raves about the Dynasty Warriors series has no place talking about any of this.

Fuck's sake, Jim, you clearly said why there's a "cost-per-hour" yourself; People want to know the price, the duration and if it's the sort of thing they like - if you know the price and the average length of the game and you already know if it's the kind of stuff you want to play, it's kinda cool to know how much per hour is "spent" because time IS money when you're not being funded by a Patreon instead of working every weekday until you're a grandfather with barely any free time to do anything else. You're getting paid for your lifetime and there's only so much of it until you die, kinda like your ol' pal did just a while ago, leaving his family with a problem of having one less person with half a lifetime of income left. There is no fucking capitalist scheme to fool people into thinking time is physical money, it's just a gimmick statistic because you can use basic math to divide the cost with the hours spent. This whole video was just throwing a tantrum over someone taking two existing numbers and doing simple division with them.
