Here is big one.
Abraham Lincoln and George Washington weren't really the biggest fans of slavery and believed a racial diverse society to be incompatible. Both wanted to end slavery and then kick black people out. (Also, George's teeth were made out of ivory not gold nor slave teeth, ya' dingos.
Andrew Jackson was the only president to get rid of all American debt (which has been around for basically forever); it doubling soon after wasn't exactly his fault.
Cat leukemia is contagious.
Wisconsin was the first state to allow collective bargaining and introduced as sort of federal income tax in two years before its contemporary nationwide introduction in 1913. .
Emus can't walk backwards. (Hot tip for @chekovia)
New Zealand's infanticide protection laws (making it so it can be written off as manslaughter due to the mother's mental condition due to the stress of giving birth or whatever) goes up to age 10.
Taiwan and China have massive companies that make stone and minerals into paper which is pretty cool, I guess.
Lizards lick air particles to smell; smell and taste are closely related and there are 5 primary kinds of taste which can be converted into smells.
Cows eat magnets for their health.

Plastic was discovered accidentally while chemical engineers at Phillips 66 were trying to find a way to dispose of the waste products from the oil refinement process. Realizing what they'd found, they sold the process to Dow Chemical to refine and exploit.

Disneyland has feral cats in the park that hunt mice. Sometimes you can see them walking around.

Shit, I guess Mickey's really pissed off the brass now.

It is common knowledge that Amazing Grace can be sung to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme song. A lesser known fact is that Amazing Grace can also be sung to the tune of the Eagle's "Peaceful Easy Feeling". The things you learn in church camp.

Also: Despite my name, I actually don't own any hats.

The last group of soldiers defending Hitler's body and the bunker were not German, but French. Members of the Waffen SS division Charlemagne defended the bunker after the Germans fled. Stalin wished to have Hitler on May Day, the the French held out to rob him of this.

There is a story of a leader of the Free French forces inspecting a group of captured French SS soldiers. He asked one how he can wear a uniform of the Nazis. The one soldier asked how he could wear the uniform of the Americans.

The soldiers were then executed without trial.

George Washington died because four separate doctors took a quart or more of blood from him without telling the others how much blood they were taking out, and he went into shock from blood loss. They wanted to replace the blood he lost with sheep's blood to see if he'd come back to life, but Martha Washington said no.

@ShavedSheep actually denied the transfer to live another day...

You can create a pretty nice blue patina on bronze by taking your bronze object and submerging it in seawater for a few days. Let it dry out and it will have a great buried treasure aesthetic going on.
Also, if you're doing a pit firing (or other types of ceramic firing) and you wrap your pottery in seaweed, the salt will naturally turn your piece rusty orange.

Earth always stays in the same part of the skies on the near side of the Moon, although it does appear to "wobble around" somewhat. At midnight on the near side ("new moon"), the landscape is illuminated by "earthlight" from a full Earth. It's also about 2 weeks from sunrise to sunset.

Exposure to feral armadillos has been known to cause leprosy.

Pandora's box was actually a jar in mythology. The box thing comes from a translation fuck up by the scholars who studied it.

Walking over hot coals isn't difficult in any way. The coals used for the trick actually have a very low heat capacity, and the sweat on the bottom of a person's feet make the heat even less of an issue. Walking on hot pavement in summer is more difficult than firewalking.

How hot are we talking here? There was a bit in Jackass 3.5 where Ryan (I think) was walking on a beam over hot coals. He fell off and singed the hell out of his legs and ass. There were parts of the coals that were on fire though, so it was probably hotter than what you were talking about.

Traditionally the flames are about as strong as fire from a weak cigarette lighter. They can still burn you if you linger on them for too long, but I think the coals they used for that stunt were more akin to grilling charcoal, which burns much hotter than the kind that's traditionally used for the trick.
