New York (CNN) Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series. His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

Asia Argento, yeah. She had just recently come forward about being a victim of Harvey Weinstein and Bourdain was a big part of her support system.

My first introduction to Bourdain was when his book Kitchen Confidential was being passed around a restaurant I was working at during the early 2000s. I read the thing over the course of a couple days, probably the fastest I've ever finished a book. He so perfectly captured the craziness that is working in the hospitality industry. The high stress environment, all the flings among the staff, the partying, drug abuse & addictions. I instantly became a fan & have been ever since.

RIP

After watching The JT LeRoy Story, I realzed Asia Argento is completely insane. Too loony for Hollywood, if that's even possible.
Tell us moar- think she’s the reason he offer himself? Stood up for her publicly only to get cheated on, maybe?

She's into to some dark shit.

She had a fling with JT LeRoy, who isn't even a real person. It was the author's sister-in-law in drag. And she didn't know it wasn't a man? The character was also supposed to be HIV+.

Didn’t she have a meltdown recently at some awards show yelling about Weinstein?

Saw this on my news feed when I woke up.

I've been a casual fan of No Reservations and Parts Unknown, freakin' loved his narration style and especially the bromance between him and Eric.

Didn't know he'd had a history of drug abuse though - that sorta puts it in perspective. And I didn't know he had a daughter - 11 years old even.

Gonna be hard to watch anything with Tony in it for a while after this...

My sibling just woke me up to tell me about his death.

He was a really food critic and tv host. I enjoyed his show a lot more than Andrew Zimmermen's ones. Anthiny's one had a calm feeling to it, like you werw actually there on that country eating food and enjoying some great company.

Its sad to know that his death was from suicide but it is understandable.

Hopefully he's eating some great food, drinking wine with friends up in heaven.

Don't care if this is :powerlevel: but i had the absolute pleasure of meeting Mr. Bourdain a few times at a fancy downtown seafood restaurant I worked at over the course of a bunch of years. Every time he came by he would greet us before we had the opportunity to greet him. He was as nice as a patron as any front of the house staff could ever want and he was extremely down to earth even in his hectic day to day routine of traveling state-to-state and country-to-country. He was always willing to meet and talk to any other guests at our workplace (our random/regular patrons that noticed him sitting there) He also insisted on signing autographs for passerby fans. He was one of the nicest celebritys we ever dealt with and it was a blow to all of us that knew him at our establishment.

Also, our executive chefs were scared shitless to make him any food he might have criticized, but he enjoyed every meal our chefs prepared for him.

F, to a great man and kind soul.

She's going through a mental breakdown and is traumatized, plus bourdain was wayyyy older than she is, IDK why anyone would bet on that relationship lasting forever. If he killed himself as a fuck you to his girlfriend...that is really fucking scummy, all things considered. Unless he left a note or confided in someone I guess we will never know for sure. At least he lived a long and full life, more extraordinary than 99% of people ever experience.

Didn't this guy have some connection to Weinstein and Clinton?

That's a bad combination. Like chocolate and onion.

The broad has a type. I think if you added up the ages of all the dicks she's seen, you'd need to start using exponents halfway through.

And having read a couple of Bourdain's books, he certainly had a type of his own and was lucky to escape this world without being murdered in his sleep.
