Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Somewhat related to TB is that Extra Credits are now in the shit because they apparently had been sexually harassing a former staff member. Guess what Extra Credits made a big fuss about? That's right Gamergate and TB's links to it including calling him a misogynist and racist.

Things that make you go Hmmm.

It's like when Schneiderman, the NY State Attorney General, went down for being just shy of a violent rapist. That guy was knee-deep in #MeToo wokeness himself. All I could think was, "Christ, are they all perverts?"

I guess the extra credit guys aren't exceptional enough to warrant a thread, usually just threading on the border of it. Unless the google seached mislead me, the james guy in it seems rather spergy. But I've only watched a couple of videos on them, like the whole we're gonna run out of internet one.

Extra Credits, I think, were on the cusp of getting a thread due to their rather foolish defenses of microtransactions and ideas that games should cost more. They were already a joke to a lot of gamers.

EDIT: It seems they just got a thread.

He's basically condemned Gemma and Orion to homelessness now because of his ardent refusal to accept his mortality. I can't help but feel sorry for the two of them.

It's tough to know how much of that debt was due to trying experimental treatments etc and how much was just the cost of dying slowly with a broken healthcare system. Either way, I don't think it's exactly fair to suggest that a reasonably young person with a low chance of survival should basically eat a gun instead of trying to beat it based on cost. How much are a few years of life worth? I dunno, but I'm not gonna dunk on someone too much when they have to make that shitty decision. Or, more likely, a series of decisions, none of them standing out but all adding up to chapter 7 bankruptcy when together.

That said, the house stuff is exceptional and smacks of someone not knowing how to make decisions on money.

In Genna's comment she admits the debt dates back pre-cancer due to an accountant telling porkies. The health treatments wouldn't of helped no, but unpaid tax charges tend to snowball. Quite why the accountant let that happen is a bit confusing.

That said even in a "better" system like UK or Canada there are different pros and cons, the treatment would be free to a point. The waits for important treatments can be longer and some of the experimental treatments TB got wouldn't of been available to him via the health service too. The US gave them the best chance of maximising the time he had left, but at incredible cost.

Genna's pretty open about why it became that bad in her comment and admits she's the one who pushed for the house. They had always rented and TB wanted a place he could really call his own. She admits she knew it was going to sting a lot later but she did it out of love for him, and a fear that doing without may of led to his mental health giving out sooner than his physical health.

I think I can sort of understand the drive behind that, even though yes incredibly risky in the long run.

Jesus, Jim is being a fucking try-hard about this. This entire video is so cringey.

Edit: Just gonna sperg a bit since I honestly don't follow Sterling much, don't like him, find him unfunny, and am pretty uneducated about him other than he is way over the top:

The whole point of this video, from what I gather, is to essentially compare having no quality control to Valve's decision. Except he has full control over his video and the fucknut decided to put all that in their, even if as an example of lack of quality control. It's still his control and doing.

And of course he goes balls deep into it and tries to make it wholly uninteresting and offensive, like that's 100% what anything without quality control would be like. He's just shoehorning this all in and being obnoxious as hell.

Only other vid I ever saw was some aristocrat vids of his where his voice was so godawful and annoying I had to stop halfway through. He tries way too hard.

  1. Him trying to proclaim he's the hero or being a Steam Cleaner is pretty cringey even as a joke. Although he did play a huge part in the Digital Homicide controversy, the worst thing the company did was sending lawsuits to those who criticise them and not the shitty quality games which have been in huge giveaways for months.
  2. When did someone even say that having quality control for Steam = censorship? If it's about the HuniePop controversy, sure, but I doubt removing some low quality poorly made asset flipping games is even censorship.
  3. If his response to people who dislike his content is "don't watch it", shouldn't it be the same for him reacting to the low quality asset games on Steam? Just report them or play some better ones, and so far I didn't even see any of these low quality asset flips on the front page for me.
  4. I wonder if people even realised "Active Shooter" was already removed from Steam and even KiA is not even trying to defend the game. Besides we all know journalism is retarded as a whole to begin with.
  5. Comparing Valve with Google for having zero responsibility is not quite accurate considering that Google has been demonetizing and taking down YouTube channels for close to no reason in recent times. If you want Google to be like Valve it's more like every single YouTube channel can have monetization with zero consequences.
  6. If his point is that if Valve has zero regulation on games being on Steam, Steam will later start facing mass-censorship due to consequences and complaints, he might have a point due to the infamous YouTube adpocalypse, but contrary to what people think Valve doesn't literally have zero regulation considering that they just removed some obvious trolling games like Active Shooter, AIDS Simulator etc. Also, YouTube has been a burden to Google since it doesn't give them any profit so this comparison again isn't accurate unless you can prove that Steam doesn't give profits to Valve either.
Rest of the video is cringey unfunny irrelevant shit that has been dragging on throughout this entire video. If the whole point is to show he can have zero responsibility for quality control on his videos like what Valve does on Steam, it's not the best way to do that.

That argument is the equivalent to someone telling you to "keep your opinion to yourself" which is hilariously ironic coming from him. Then again hes always been the type to not follow his own advice.

This video is actually really exciting for me because I think he's picking a fight he can't win. Before, having a Steam with a greenlight process easily abused enabled him to highlight the abuse. Now, with Steam going for a different approach with no quality control, he can't complain about that abuse. It's all fair in a big sandbox.

This concept has blown past him so far he can't mentally cope with it and is just ranting SJW drivel. If he keeps this up it'll alienate his entire userbase.

He's also not making any point. He almost always makes a point with comedic skits. Now, he's just ranting in sarcasm without saying anything. He's totally consumed by his hatred.

Fatty having any fans at all, let alone has connections to get a shout out in games like VA-11 Hall-A, is well beyond my comprehension. He isn't very funny, only gives a shit about consumers when it applies to things that affect him, has contradictory opinions, and troll shields himself by claiming his vids are satire. What are his fans getting out of watching his content and giving him money, more vids of him sucking on a dildo and giving himself cumshots?

I like his videos because he usually analyzes things very well and does a ton of research. Same reason I like a lot of AVGN videos, RedLetterMedia, and AntsCanada. Hearing someone talk at great length about something they love and know a lot about is really good background noise while doing work. I've listened to a ton of Jim's older videos on loop while doing programming stuff or playing games. I've never financially supported him, but I do appreciate how he methodically lays out what he has to say. This is not a video in his usual style; the fact his crusades are failing on all fronts is driving him mad. Like it or not, Jimmy, the Internet is slowly becoming more liberal again.

They’ve improved the functions for filtering, though, so users can do that themselves. This is really what Twitter should do, just work on improving user controlled filtering and then people can do it themselves or create their own retarded echo chambers by sharing blacklists.

I make fun of Sterling but usually watched the 'Jimquisition' vids (unless they were about Dynasty Warriors or something). The last one I turned off about half way through and this one I closed after a couple of sentences (and seeing some of his preemptive youtube comments).

Somebody needs to sue him again to prompt interesting content. Or maybe it's the drugs. Or the lack of drugs. He really has taken the most ridiculously unimportant of issues to worry about and gone full cringe with it. That can be funny except he's actually upset about this bullshit, which wreaks the satire. He's not parodying the silly thing, he's just doing the silly thing and pretending it's clever.
