"Everything" has a pretty broad sweep, apparently. I've heard knitfic called "the cancer that's killing Ravelry" - it seems that even knitting patterns inevitably degenerate into a complete pseudo-fantasy clusterfuck once Superwholockians seize hold of them.

Sherlock is knitting then smut happens. This is companion erotica for an actual scarf pattern. The hell?

Holy hell. How is it even possible for a group to be so toxic it makes the actors who play the characters feel deeply uncomfortable and other nasty things, without being violent and actually doing genuinely horrible shit?

Pestering the actors about this kind of thing is idiotic. All you're going to accomplish is making them want to leave the show you love because of all the shit they have to put up with.

Not to mention that if you absolutely must ask dumb questions like those, they are better posed to the writers than the actors.

He's also one of the main writers, and often writes for Doctor Who as well. He's probably getting more crap on Twitter from that than from his role on the show.

Welllllll....actually, the "demographic" the show is aimed at (and which one is actually watching it) has morphed multiple times over the decades.
It started out as a show for 9-year olds (to teach the tykes about science and history) that got a following amongst grown-ups (who thought it was ghetto avant-garde), switched to appeal to grownups (with darker storylines) and instead became a guilty pleasure for teenagers (who thought it was b-grade Hammer Horror on the cheap.)
It has "transitioned" like that multiple times, always getting a fanbase other than the one it aimed for.

Never saw Supernatural; and I have never made it through an episode of Sherlock. Cumberbatch is so weirdly fucked-up looking he is too distracting to take seriously. Why he is considered a sex object utterly eludes me.

Somehow Lewis Lovhaug is a sex object for fangirls. There's an entire trope called 'Memetic Sex God' where you apply this to non-real things.
