How is she illegally taking it

Hes living in her house
In case she was lying to him about what it's used for. The tugboat was only meant to serve Chris, not her mortgage payments or whatever the fuck she spent on the horde.

It's always been assumed that the house got remortgaged and they're paying monthly installments, but now it emerged that the house got reverse-mortgaged as part of Barb's credit restructure (meaning that she gets money in exchange for letting the bank have it after she dies).

I acknowledge that the above is conjecture and educated guesses as I haven't seen the actual paperwork involved.

Didn't Bob insist on taking some for digs though?

How was a reverse mortgage possible?
Holy shit learn how to google if you clearly dont understand what something means

Barb is clearly incapable of paying back her debts

A bank will do anything to get money

A reverse mortgage is a guarantee they will get money back

I'm not saying Barb is doing that illegally. For instance, I believe the most recent crisis was that they're required to keep up on the property taxes as part of the reverse mortgage, i.e. they aren't directly paying anything on the principal or interest, but they have to keep the house in existence and not get it seized. They might also have to insure it. So they probably fucked that up.

It's not the same, necessarily, as Barb outright stealing it, it just metaphorically is. It's greedy and shitty, but probably not illegal. Getting Chris acclimated to that kind of shit for years by a trusted person, like your own mother is supposed to be, probably psychologically set it up to that being seen as normal behavior by Chris.

It isn't at all unusual for a parent to act as an unofficial tard wrangler, and unfortunately, some of them do it in a greedy, shitty way.

How was a reverse mortgage possible? They owe on the house from a second mortgage.

That's what we've thought. If they do have a reverse mortgage, and I don't know the source of that information, nobody would give it to them if the house was already underwater with another mortgage. So either way, they have one or the other but not both. Maybe this was conveyed to Chris by someone, and Barb misrepresented the situation to him, or she represented it in the way a normal person would and Chris being Chris, had no clue about it all.

She's taking the money for rent. Nick misunderstood: the reverse mortgage wasn't to gain income. It was to pay off credit card debt.

If true that's just fucking insane. You don't put your house on the chopping block for credit card bullshit, you just declare bankruptcy and fuck those people.

fucking this. They charge astronomical rates because the debt is unsecured. You don't turn around and secure the damn debt by attaching it to the place where two people unable to work live. That's not just being bad with money, that's being astronomically horrible with it.

I had Chris talk to her. She said that the house was paid off but she took a $108k mortgage on it to pay debts. The $900/mo he gives her is for the mortgage.

Rekieta inaccurately says she sold the house to the bank, and perhaps I used the word reverse-mortgage incorrectly, but she has essentially taken a loan with the house as collateral to pay consumer debt. Chris will almost assuredly lose the house when she dies.

I really don't think she wants chris to have anything

I don't think she's actively hostile to him having things, she just doesn't give a shit what happens when she's dead, because like most narcissists, it's just not something that's real to her.

This would be a normal mortgage. Or a home equity loan.

If you said reverse mortgage, then he would be correct in interpreting it that way, because that would actually be a reverse mortgage. With a reverse mortgage, you take out a loan on the house, get a lump sum up front, and interest racks up on that while you live. When you die, they get to sell the house and collect the principal and any interest. If there's anything left it goes on to heirs.

Or the heirs can pay off the sum and keep the house.

The people loaning are hoping you live long enough that they get the house in its entirety, but not much longer, because they don't get to collect any more.

I wouldn't blame her if she was. Look at the trouble he has caused her for the last 35 years

For a woman who previously spent her inheritance on a lost cause of a criminal charge? I believe it.

I think her priority at this point is her own ego. "I fight this case because the law shouldn't be harassing me," "I use this house for my debt because nobody should be legally allowed to say I owe them anything," or some other such equally idiotic nonsense, basically anything for some kind of face.

Fuck me that's some debt she has, then again I am assuming she took out as much she could and paid off her debt an has added to the horde with the rest.

But yea when she dies he has lost the house, and will need some real assistance to get back in his feet.

Is this something Null will do? He's been in a helping mood.
