Community Detox / Alternative medicine / Homeopathy / Woo / CAM Scammers & Cows - The crazies who make $ off hating science, and the fools who love them

Thanks to @Cricket , @gengar , and @Ginger Piglet for helping compile this info.

You may remember the thread on the Church of Genesis II and the people who try to cure autism with bleach. The use of a dangerous or ineffective substances as a cure all is quite prevalent all over the internet, and there are no shortage of people willing to do/ take almost anything and everything to cure what ails them. Most of this willingness to ingest literal poisons seems to stem from a distrust of modern science and medicine as well as general ignorance and fear. I'd like to explore the wacky world of "alternative medicines" this has created, and the batshit insane things people are willing take to cure them of anything from autism (yes, again) and even gayness.

Oxygen Therapy
First, I’d like to talk about oxygen therapy. At first one might assume it involves breathing in pure oxygen, but some clever people figured out that you could just drink it via hydrogen peroxide. But why would people ingest a toxic and corrosive chemical?

Like all good medicine, we start with a fallacy - if it’s natural, it’s good – and ignorance about how chemistry works – the atoms in a molecule have the same properties as they do when they’re not bonded together. The website (https://www.hps-online.com/hoxy.htm) proudly displays this on the home page:
HPS Health Fallacy.PNG

This is displayed under some hefty warnings they probably had to put there after someone died, even though it’s clear they still believe in it:
HPS Health Warning.PNG

So why do people need this? Because

We have polluted the air, we need additives for our water to make it safe to drink, and our food has lost its trace elements, long leached from our soils. We now must use supplements to help supply what has been lost. One of these supplements is oxygen.

The page goes on to talk about how microorganisms are all around us, and they are responsible for every single bad thing that happens to you. The reasons listed are:

--gnaw away at the joints (inflammatory arthritis)

--Give off calcium waste matter that cements bones together

--lodge in liver and kidneys, and with their bite form stones

--live in the very lining of the arteries and leave their hard deposit on the walls of the arteries

--cling to the lining in the nervous system and short- circuit some of the electronics in the central computer of the brain

--attack cells and enter them, building cocoons around the stricken cell thus cutting off the blood supply and causing the cell to lose its specific function, so that it can only live and multiply into cancerous tumors.

The article then goes on for a few paragraphs about how natural hydrogen peroxide and ozone are, making the implication that they are safe to consume because they both occur frequently in nature.

Dangers of hydrogen peroxide: Pulled from the MSDS for 3% hydrogen peroxide:
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.

And under the “Chronic Effects on Humans section:

CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Classified A3 (Proven for animal.) by ACGIH [Hydrogen Peroxide]. Classified 3 (Not classifiable for human.) by IARC [Hydrogen Peroxide]. MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for mammalian somatic cells. [Hydrogen Peroxide]. Mutagenic for bacteria and/or yeast. [Hydrogen Peroxide]. Contains material which may cause damage to the following organs: blood, upper respiratory tract, skin, eyes, central nervous system (CNS).

Black Salve

Another miracle cure all I came across is Black Salve, aka Zinc(II) Chloride or Bloodroot you rub on your body.
http://www.electroherbalism.com/Naturopathy/Regimens/Skin_Cancer_Regimen.htm
https://www.altcancer.com/slowesch.htm

It's important to note the differences between Bloodroot and Zinc(II) Chloride. Bloodroot kills your cells via blocking important proteins from functioning. The main chemical responsible for this is
Sanguinarine though there are other toxic alkaloids present in the plant as well. Zinc(II) Chloride on the other hand is very corrosive and toxic. It works by simply dissolving your cells.

Marketed as a skin cancer treatment. Only causes chemical burns and for your skin to fall off, though I suppose it technically works in removing the cancer from that area (assuming it, you know, hasn't metastasized).

Case and point is this youtube channel right here: https://www.youtube.com/user/gvloanguy2/videos

This man tried to use black salve to cure his cancer and, big surprise, ended up dying of cancer.

Here's an article on a case study where a woman used zinc chloride on her melanoma and the cancer, not only wasn't cured, spread to other areas of her body

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4132006/

And some more case studies of people using black salve to treat their skin cancer with predictable results: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamadermatology/fullarticle/479092

As far as specific cases go, this woman is one of the most notorious cases. After taking advice from some fellow internet medical experts, she documented the gradual process of literally burning off her fucking nose.

Turpentine
Yes, turpentine, as in the paint thinner, is also advertised as a cure all. It can go without saying that turpentine is toxic and should not be ingested, but that doesn't stop snake oil salesmen from peddling it.

For example, this site states that:
turpentine.PNG

If you take two second to actually read the WebMD page for turpentine, you'll see that it's really not safe at all:
WebMD.PNG

Note that it's unsafe to ingest, yet the site above and this one as well advocate for you to ingest it.

And one of these threads wouldn't be complete without a cure for autism:
autismtine.PNG

Here are some miscellaneous links to more people advocating for the use of turpentine:
https://healers.vitalitycapsules.com/optin10574130
http://www.sgn80.com/docs/The_Candida_Cleaner.pdf

It can also cure gayness:

Kerosene
Kerosene is another so-called miracle cure. Yes, kerosene. According to one website, ingesting kerosene can cure aggressive forms of cancer in a matter of weeks. They even advocate for feeding it to your pets, claiming that it will eliminate tumors.
This website gives the following explanation for how kerosene works:
Kerosene dries and dehydrates the cells. Any malignant tumor is a community of living cells with rapid division. If you deprive them of liquids, they would die. This is one of the basic characteristics of kerosene, which acts directly on cancer cells.

As with any good miracle cure, there is also a great conspiracy surrounding the use of kerosene. Some proponents claim that kerosene was used successfully to treat cancer for many years, but in order to conserve it for its intended use, doctors who treated patients with kerosene disappeared at the hands of Big Petroleum.

Here's a firsthand account from a "thick but not fat half white half black woman" over at CureZone. As with many similar remedies, those who are exceptional enough to fall for this shit end up having severe side effects, which they then claim is part of the "die-off process," where all those pesky morgellons leave your body and your chakras are finally cleansed.

Because the black liquid pouring out of your asshole is definitely not a result of drinking gasoline. Nope, just your ordinary yeast infection.

The MSDS for kerosene makes it pretty clear as to why you shouldn't ever ingest it:

Acute Potential Health Effects: Skin: Causes moderate to severe skin irritation. It can cause defatting dermatitis. Eyes: May cause eye irritation. Inhalation: May cause respiratory tract and mucous membrane irritation and a burning sensation in the chest. Because of its relatively low volatility, overexposure by inhalation is uncommon, but it can occur in poorly ventilated areas or by inhalation of mists or aerosols. Symptoms of inhalation overexposure include central nevous system
(CNS) depression (transient euphora, headache, irritability, excitement, ringing in the ears, weakness, incoordination, confusion, disorientation, drowsiness, tremor, somnolence, hallucinations, seizures, coma, death). May affect the heart (cardiac arrythmias), liver, kidneys, and respiration( asphyxia, apnea, acute pulmonary edema, dyspnea, fibrosis, or cyanosis)
Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal tract irritation with burning sensation in mouth, esophagus, and stomach, a b d o m i n a l p a i n , n a u s e a , v o m i t i n g , h y p e r m o t i l i t y , d i a r r h e a , h e a d a c h e , m a l a i s e . M a y a f f e c t respiration/trachea/bronchi through accidental pulmonary aspiration which can cause hypoxia, chemical pneumonitis, and noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, pulmonary hemmorrhage, coughing, breathing difficulty, acute or chronic pulmonary edema, emphysema, respiratory stimulation. It may also affect the heart (dysrrhythmias, myocardial depression, tachycardia), liver, endocrine system (pancreas - hypoglycemia), behavior/central nervous system (symptoms similar to that of inhalation). Chronic Potential Health Effects: Inhalation: Repeated or prolonged inhalation may cause respiratory tract irritation and affect behavior/central nervous system with symptoms similar to that of acute inhalation. It may also affect the blood (changes in white blood cell count, changes in serum compositon, pigmented or nucleated red blood cells, leukopenia, normocytic anemia) , cardiovascular

Vitamin B17 / Amygdalin
Vitamin B17 is perhaps better known as amygdalin, a chemical compound found in several fruits. When ingested, amygdalin converts to cyanide. Despite several decades of doctors repeatedly telling people that, no, cancer is not "vitamin B17 deficiency", there is still a large presence of people who argue otherwise.

One self-proclaimed nutritionist explains:
What makes vitamin B17 so powerful is the fact that it is comprised of glucose and hydrogen cyanide. The way it actively destroys cancer cells is by the glucose ‘injecting’ itself into the cancer cell.

Many medical professionals claim B17 is toxic. Well, the last time I checked, having cancer (in any form) is toxic in itself and causes death daily. The only thing B17 is toxic to is cancer cells and a corrupt government.

The conspiracies around B17 are particularly insane, with many believing that the government actively tries to suppress those who speak out about it. Several years ago, a man was arrested for selling B17 capsules and marketing them as a cancer cure. Naturally, this only further proves that Big Pharma is trying to keep us from knowing the truth about the healing properties of cyanide.

There are even those who claim that news stories of cyanide poisoning are fabricated in order to keep people from curing their cancer. Unsurprisingly, there are quite a few documented cases.

In 2017, an Australian man was treated for cyanide poisoning after taking amygdalin tablets to cure his cancer. He was fortunate enough to live through the experience, but told his doctors he would continue taking the tablets.

In 2015, a 4-year-old child survived severe cyanide poisoning after his parents gave him amygdalin to cure his tumor.

And in 2016, an infant died from cyanide poisoning after her parents regularly gave her amygdalin for a form of cancer that otherwise has a 5-year survival rate of 95%.

This is only the tip of the iceberg for medical quackery. Pretty much every thing that you shouldn't ingest or do can and will be sold as a cure all with predictable outcomes.

EDIT: This OP was merged with this thread. Didn't realize this thread was already up. Whoops.

Danny Glass. I looked into him. He's still turping and drinking his own piss. I will see if I can dig more up on him from his recent frolics.

I don't normally agree with breeding licenses but there should be a simple one that asks you if you think essential oils can cure diseases and if you think they are safe to consume (also some other questions about faith healing and shit). Answer yes to both and you are sterilized so that no more children die at the hands of their crazy alt medicine parents.

I have a doozy of a (s)CAM cow but I’m not sure whether she should go in this thread or in personal lolcows, since she’s not widely known outside of the area where I live.

To sum it up, she’s a psychiatrist who practiced perfectly good medicine up until 8 years ago when she got sick with asthma, fibromyalgia, “leaky gut,” (a fave disease of these alt med people) and “adrenal fatigue.” She then joined the cult of woo wholesale, taking an “integrative masterclass” in Colorado, and began an integrative psychiatry practice where she makes patients get expensive lab tests which tell her which herbs and supplements they need (which she also sells) and whether they need to detox or go gluten free and dairy free for their leaky gut. She uses essential oils and healing stones and crystals in her practice and cites flawed research all the time, telling patients that turmeric is more effective than Prozac. She believes that bergamot is better than Xanax and that an “evergreen essential oil” can bring people down from manic episodes.

She herself is bipolar but plans to go off her lithium and replace it with Hardy Nutritionals, which is an expensive multivitamin that “supposedly” helps with ADHD, aggression/ODD in kids, and mood regulation (according to the people who make it). She sees a psychic spiritual healer/medium who she believes can heal trauma, speak with dead and living people, “tap into her patients’ souls”, and give her advice on how to best treat her patients. She also reccomends that patients see this person and in one instance advised the father of a 17 year old with drug and alcohol problems to have his daughter see the spiritual healer instead of going to rehab and therapeutic boarding school like the girl’s therapist recommended.

I have sooo much more dirt on her and pics that I would like to share if people are interested. I wish she could have a thread because she’s so insane and inappropriate but she doesn’t really have much of an online presence so there wouldn’t be much milk from her.

Tell me more...

Hydrogen peroxide is a purgative, in a pinch it's used in Veterinary medicine to induce vomiting in chocolate ingestion cases. We're still warned of possible poisoning however if the patient doesn't purge for whatever reason. Like as little as 20ml in a large dog is deadly.

I can't believe people ingest it, but apparently kerosene and turpentine are also cure-alls?! I need to start watching the relative who sells essential oils. She's said some off the wall shit too.

I thought she was just a disgrace to psychiatry, but she's severely mentally ill and lost touch with reality. When she gets off her lithium, which is probably only the real medication she's on it seems, things are going to crash hard. She's a quack, but this seems like a years long manic episode and she needs help.

I have a big issue with this brand of bullshit, mostly for :powerlevel: reasons. However, I've also had way too much experience with this type of scamming for way too long.

I've dealt with people who swore by chelation therapy, and opted to sit in some shady office building with a bunch of other people hooked up to IVs instead of taking chemo despite being at the end-stages of terminal cancer. The amount of brochures you'll see about programs that just happen to be outside of the US advertising cancer cures is sickening. They often just smash a bunch of medical-sounding words and offer a "retreat" in their special facility nobody has ever heard of. It works really well on the older set of people who have a natural distrust for chemicals and traditional medicine from being exposed to shitty working conditions with toxins like asbestos. These con artists also try to make their programs "exclusive" and have waiting lists of people who are so desperate for relief that they believe that controlled radioactive coconut milk with cayenne pepper "flushes" while eating some random leaves will be the cure for their ailments.

The oxygen therapy posted by @dannyfrickenp is the most interesting thing to read on account of how blatantly wrong it is.

HPS Scam said:
Ozone (03) is free oxygen (02) plus an extra atom of oxygen.
If you've taken a semester of high school chemistry, you'll know how much a single atom can shift the entire properties of a compound. When Ozone (O3) is broken down, you don't just get O2, you get free radical Oxygen (O1), meaning it has unpaired electrons. So you have a highly reactive substance searching for electrons to stabilize itself. Free radicals are necessary for biological function, but the body is so finely tuned that it knows how to regulate the creation of free radicals to facilitate bodily functions. Unwanted free radicals, however, can have the potential to destroy DNA.

Ozone in general is not good for the human body; it'll fuck up your respiratory system, because it's highly unstable in larger concentrations. Wikipedia says, "Exposure of 0.1 to 1 μmol/mol produces headaches, burning eyes and irritation to the respiratory passages." It's a potent disinfectant because of its instability. This is in a similar vein to the bleach drinking of MMS.

But oxygen isn't a cure-all because it's needed to live. You put all that hydrogen peroxide down your throat and you can end up with an embolism from the mass amounts of oxygen you've created.

Hydrogen peroxide will also naturally turn to water and oxygen, especially when exposed to light. (It's why the bottles are black and meant to be stored in a dark place)

This is the most empty quote I've seen. The same could probably be said about Coca-Cola, which certainly isn't curing cancer.

Greg Caton is the mastermind behind Cansema, which is one of the most popular black salve products. He has a philosophy called "Meditopia," which is his name for his ideal, pharmaceutical-free society. He has multiple books about it, and he often cites David Icke as a reference, so that's how you know they're good. He has served time in prison for continuing to sell his products, and was even registered in Interpol's fugitive database after he fled to Ecuador to escape legal trouble in the United States. Naturally, his devotees took this whole ordeal as a sign that the government views him as a major threat because of his solution to what he calls the "medical holocaust." He was eventually caught, and he served an additional sentence. Since his release, he has returned to Ecuador, and he continues to sell Cansema. Americans have to purchase the product on a separate website, where it is marketed as Amazon Black Salve. For just $45, you can have a gaping flesh hole of your very own.

Jason Vale has spent the last couple of decades promoting amygdalin - innocently referred to as "Vitamin B17" - as a health supplement, after he claims it cured his cancer. In the early days of his antics, he was fined $1,000,000 after he spammed over 20 million AOL customers with emails about his miracle cyanide cure. A few years later, he was sent to prison for continuing to sell his products online, despite legal warnings from the USDA. He developed cancer a second time after his release, which he attributed to a lack of apricot seeds during his incarceration. 18 years after he originally came to the public's attention, he is still exceptional. He continues to sell amygdalin supplements on his website, Apricots from God. You can purchase a Vitamin B17 one-month starter bundle for the low, low price of $200.

Dr. Jennifer Daniels is a major figure in promoting turpentine as a cure-all. She wrote a "Confidential Underground Report" on the secret healing properties of the substance, complete with a guide on how to obtain and ingest it. She claims to have obtained this top secret information when her black neighbors told her that it was used by their enslaved ancestors. Upon researching this method, Daniels discovered that the 1899 edition of the Merck Medical Manual suggested turpentine as a cure for various ailments. The manual now classifies it as a poisonous substance, for obvious reasons. However, Daniels and her followers cite this as proof that Big Pharma is hiding the truth about turpentine's miraculous capabilities. Daniels has an online store for selling her Vitality Capsules, which are an alternative to popular "kill pills." She also conducts Spontaneous Healing Sessions for $400, but act fast, because slots fill up quickly. If you would like to harness the magical properties of turpentine for yourself, she recommends simply going to your local hardware store.

Ozone is REALLY not good for you. It reacts with organic compounds (i.e. flesh) to form ozonides. These are very explosive.

Ditto, H2O2 is best kept away from organics as well because organic peroxides (notably acetone peroxide but also benzoyl peroxide and suchlike) are very explosive also.

So what you're saying is we can explode some dumb fuckwits who believe in this stupid shit?

Elle MacPherson is getting in on it now. She's allegedly banging Andrew "Vaccines Cause Autism" Wakefield.
Goddamn it, she makes really good inexpensive bras and is one of the few who make my size, and now I can't give her my sheckels. I know this is selfish and self centered as fuck but I hate learning that good shit is made by terrible people. I hope her kids die of smallpox.

The explosive compounds are very unlikely to form in your body (especially acetone peroxide, which requires water to be removed form the reaction so the equilibrium favors the products over the reactants). Ozonides rapidly decompose in water to form non explosive compounds.

Unless someone really fucks up storing concentrated (30% and up) hydrogen peroxide and/ or ozone, I don't think there's a danger of forming explosives. The only danger imo is the toxicity of those compounds and how corrosive they are.

Chem sperging over.

WelleCo is her "wellness" brand featuring all manner of woo and silliness. Okay, she hasn't plastered her fizzog all over it like Gwyneth Paltrow has with Goop, but it's not far off. It seems to be based more around the alkaline diet fad rather than stuffing rocks up your clacker and coffee up your nipsy but it's a slippery slope now. She has, however, teamed up with "Dr" Simone Laubscher (quotemarks are because she's a "doctor" of naturopathy, i.e. N.D., i.e. Not a Doctor) and given the sort of shite that naturopaths come out with and her recent bedding of Andrew Wakefield it's only a matter of time really.

Also this is a report from the Currant Bun on their relationship.

Incidentally, getting struck off was the best thing financially that ever happened to Wakefield, because it allowed him to portray himself as the oppressed Galileo figure who was being persecuted by THEM, and thus rake in cashola from his film Vaxxed.

I have a mother that genuinely believes in "holistic healing". She left her real medical job to do reiki for a living. Anti-vaxxer and everything. I cant believe i've managed to live this long considering. I genuinely believe people like this shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
