It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Edit:

I wish Hunter S Thompson was still alive. He would have so much to work with.

While I agree in theory, he really was a spent force by the end of the 90s.

The United States was born in a revolt against the tyranny of King George III. The Constitution was designed to prevent tyranny through a system of checks and balances, but in President Trump's America, those safeguards are failing.

Donald Trump holds the grandiose belief that only he should rule America. Unchecked by cowed or complicit Republicans in Congress, Trump invokes executive authority to alter policies and practices long established by law and treaty.

Days after his summit meeting with Vladimir Putin, no one knows what the two autocrats agreed to, or even talked about -- not the President's top aides, nor the Pentagon, nor security establishment or Congress, never mind the rest of us. And in the midst of the ensuing uproar, Trump has invited Putin to Washington, without telling his top intelligence official and no doubt most other key aides and officials.

The list of one-man actions grows rapidly. Trump is single-handedly imposing hundreds of billions of dollars of tariffs -- that is, taxes -- on imported goods from key US allies and China, without any explicit or implicit Congressional backing.

Trump abrogated the Iran nuclear deal despite its unanimous support by the UN Security Council. Trump is in the process of imposing new and severe sanctions against Iran, including the cutoff of all of Iran's oil exports, against the international agreement with Iran and with no vote of Congress, presumably to try to topple the Iranian regime.

Not surprisingly, and perhaps as intended, Trump's drumbeat of belligerency triggered an ominous warning from Iran, and now an escalation from Trump, casting the increasingly ominous confrontation with Iran as yet another one-man Trump show.

Trump used executive authority without Congressional mandate to impose a travel ban on several Muslim-majority states; to announce the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement despite treaty-bound US obligations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change; and to change the status quo regarding Jerusalem against the will of the UN Security Council and UN General Assembly. Trump extended the stay of US troops in Syria without oversight or approval by Congress.

Political scientists are documenting America's descent toward one-man rule. A recent ranking of democracies around the world by the Swedish academic think-tank the V-Dem Institute put the US at the 31st position in 2017, a precipitous fall from 7th place in 2015. According to the report, "There is clear evidence of autocratization [the movement towards one-person rule] on several indicators.

"The lower quality of liberal democracy stems primarily from weakening constraints on the executive."

Similarly, the Democracy Index of The Economist Intelligence Unit now ranks the US only as a "flawed democracy."

Trump supporters argue that Trump is merely using his legal authority to the fullest. Yet the situation is worse than that. Simply by invoking the phrase "national security," Trump can push the Congress and Supreme Court to give him almost any degree of latitude. Trump's tariffs (under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962), the travel ban and his abrogation of the Iran nuclear deal were all made under the incantation of national security.

The Supreme Court, by a 5-4 majority, upheld the travel ban because the majority refused to second-guess the President on a claim of national security. Congress is almost completely supine on matters that the President declares to be about war and peace.

The Constitution is not supposed to work this way. Under Article I, Section 8, the power to wage war rests with Congress. So does the power to levy taxes and tariffs. Yet in each case, an aggressive President may invoke national security to circumvent the Congress. Congress's chronic failure to oversee presidential war-making, prolonged troop placements and overseas bases, with this president and earlier ones, is similarly notorious.

And Congress's failure to challenge Trump on his claims that Canada's steel and aluminum exports or China's consumer product exports constitute a "national security threat" is unforgivable.

Two long-term trends are at play, both exploited by Trump in his grab for power.

The first is the relentless growth of the national-security state since World War II, with America's hundreds of military bases and nonstop war-making around the world, including covert wars and influence campaigns run by the CIA. For more than half a century, Congress and the Supreme Court have tended to give presidents an almost free hand in starting wars, which are checked only later by the gradual mobilization of public opposition.

The second is the rise of corporate power in driving federal policy. As presidents implement the corporate agenda, Congress stands back. The Supreme Court, starting in the 1970s and continuing under Chief Justice John Roberts, has also championed the corporate lobby, giving the President a wide berth in promoting the corporate agenda. The Congress, in thrall to corporate lobbies, is complicit in letting the President unilaterally dismantle environmental and consumer-protection regulations.

Not all is lost. Special Counsel Robert Mueller and lower courts may still stand up to the President, even though the Supreme Court has become a predictable 5-4 backer of almost limitless presidential authority. Trump's assertion of power would also be counteracted if the Democrats win at least one of the chambers of Congress in November.

Yet these are fragile reeds. The US may well be one major war away from the collapse of American democracy, most likely a war with Iran for the regime change that Trump seeks.

The Nazi henchman Hermann Göring explained in Nuremberg prison how easy it is to mobilize the public to war: "Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Trump has started with a trade war, but we shouldn't be surprised if the trade war morphs into a hot one. We are far down the path to tyranny.
So... Trump's done things that are legal, but they don't like it. They talk about the travel ban, then talk about how only congress has the power to declare war. The travel ban is not a war.

This article is one presidency late. This would have been a good article to write about Obama, who took every opportunity to expand executive power.

And this article says so much without saying much of anything. The only nugget of content they have is that some swedish idiots say the US is less democratic than it was before. Oh yeah I'm sure there's no bias there.

They also don't seem to realize that the UN is not part of the US government, and has absolutely no say in our national policy.

Hey, if Trump declares himself king after his second term, I'll take up arms with the rest of the crazies, but I don't think that's gonna happen. On the other hand, I heard many Obama supporters say they actually would be happy if Obama suspended elections when trump won.

An elderly man reportedly killed a seagull in front of crying children when it stole a chip from him.

Mother-of-three Rachael Beer says the incident occurred at Weston-super-Mare's seaside resort at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old claims the man grabbed a seagull by its feet and swung it against a wall after it stole food from his takeaway container.

Her graphic image of the dead seagull and a pensioner she claims is the man have now gone viral on social media and the RSPCA have confirmed they are investigating the incident.

Rachael, who manages Luigi’s Sweet and Rock shop in the town, said: 'I saw a seagull squawking and then taking a chip from a man’s plate. Suddenly he then grabbed it by its feet and swung it against the wall.

'I heard one of the mums say "why did you do that in front of my child?" and he said "it’s vermin, you should teach your children about vermin".

'I was like, "oh my god, that man has just tried to kill a seagull". I walked up to the gull and took a photo of it and then him.

'I said ‘why did you do that’ and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.'

Children were visibly shaken by the alleged attack with some even reduced to tears, Rachael claimed.

She was stunned and deeply angered and decided to confront the man. She said despite the blow, the seagull hadn’t been killed outright - but was later put down by a vet.

'The seagull wasn’t dead at first,' she said. 'We could see its eyes twitching. Thankfully a passerby came and took it to the vet. 'Seagulls are a problem but to kill a seagull like that is just wrong.'

Despite having run a business on the seafront for many years, Rachael said that it was the worst seagull incident she has seen.

She added: 'The problem has got worse this year but I’ve never seen anything like this before.'

An RSPCA spokesperson said: 'This is a shocking incident and a completely unacceptable way to treat an animal, it must have been very upsetting for witnesses to the attack.

'We are grateful to the members of the public who were able to get this gull to a vet so it did not have to suffer further. Anyone with information about this attack is urged to contact the RSPCA.'

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: 'A man was reported as having harmed a seagull in Regent Street, Weston-super-Mare, at about 5.50pm on Tuesday 17 July.

'He was described as being in his 60s, white, about 5ft 8ins tall and with greying hair. He was wearing pink shorts, a blue and pink checked shirt and brown sandals.

'Anyone with information about the incident can contact the RSPCA or get in touch with police.

'It is an offence to kill or harm a seagull under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.'
Oh man this is hilarious, reminds me of when I was a kid I went fishing with my dad at a pier and these fucking birds kept trying to steal our shrimp from the bucket. I kicked it and it fell into the water. I don't think it died but though, they are annoying as fuck though

“The first year we did Hemp Fest in Seattle we had just a few hundred people in attendance, now we are doing over thirty thousand people a day! We want to make Oklahoma’s inaugural hemp fest over the top!” said Organizer Scott McKinley. “With thousands wanting free tickets, projected attendance for the three days will be over 45,000 people! At this time, we have over one hundred vendors coming to Oklahoma from all over the United States to show the Mid-West the different uses of Hemp. We are excited to hold this monumental festival at Lost Lakes, 3510 N.E. 10th. There will be recreation, education and celebration beginning Friday, September 7th through the 9th.”

Japanese city faults ‘fake news’ for wannabe ninja problem

TOKYO — A city in Japan has been bombarded with inquiries from aspiring ninjas, the country’s famed feudal mercenaries and spies, after a news report on city tourist promotions was mistaken for a “ninjas wanted” advertisement.

Iga, a small city in central Japan, has long dubbed itself the home of one style of the black-clad, throwing-star-wielding covert agents for hire, staging ninja shows and offering “ninja experiences” for tourists.

But a program aired last week on National Public Radio about Iga’s ninja-centered town promotion effort set off a frenzy of internet interest after its host said the city faced a shortage of ninja performers and even quoted potential salaries, giving the impression it might be hiring.

“That’s wrong, all wrong,” said Motoyoshi Shimai, an official of Iga’s tourism strategy division. “There was no discussion about that and we didn’t mention money.”

Still, the city received volleys of telephone and email queries from 115 ninja wannabes in 23 countries, including Japan.

“Most were questions about whether we were really hiring, but there were a few that begged us to employ them and tried to promote themselves,” Shimai added. “Some had real confidence in their bodies and strength.”

Iga ultimately issued a statement in several languages saying it was not hiring and warning against fake news but said plenty of other ninja fun was on offer.

“(The city) is the Iga-style ninja birthplace. We can feel breath of ninja at every turn of downtown,” it said.

City officials were surprised but not annoyed by the fuss, Shirai said.

“We were made to viscerally feel how high interest is in ninjas all around the world,” he added.

An article about the left's view on Russia:

THE LEFT’S ABOUT-FACE ON USSR AND RUSSIA
By Tim Donner | Jul 18, 2018 | Narrated News, Politics | 3 |

The left has gone ballistic, crying foul, pounding the table and calling President Trump everything from a Russian puppet to a traitor after his summit with Vladimir Putin. Trump’s refusal to publicly condemn the Russian strongman — and sharp criticism of his own country for a relationship with Russia which he said has “never been worse” – has led to a sudden outbreak of patriotism on the left.

article-6-300x165.jpg

But leftists who make a habit of ridiculing traditional American patriotism have long since abandoned the high ground regarding Trump in general, and the Russian Federation in particular. Their loud objections are akin to the boy who cried wolf. They sound the alarm on everything Trump has said and done to the point where few outside the hard left even pay attention anymore.

And that is before we even consider the left’s warm embrace of Russia in the days of Soviet communist tyranny.

Truth be known, when Russia was the Soviet Union, the Russians were never viewed as an enemy by American progressives. The salad days of Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev and Leonid Brezhnev were accepted, even embraced, in most quarters of the left as the collectivist wave of the future. Typical of the left’s betrayal was a letter written by powerful Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov in 1983, urging him to pay no attention to the anti-Soviet rhetoric of then-President Ronald Reagan, promising that he and his fellow left-wingers would undermine Reagan at every turn, and recommending placing Soviet officials on American TV to “appeal directly to the American people about the peaceful intentions of the USSR.”

soviet-union-300x162.jpg

But now that Russia has become, in their eyes, a right-wing pro-Trump oligarchy, leftists have suddenly sounded alarm bells about a threat which is, obviously, in no way comparable to what it was in the days of Soviet rule.

Indeed, the American left was famously soft on the Soviet Union, an expansionist global power almost equal to the U.S. against whom we fought a 70-year cold war – and won. But now that the communists no longer run things in Moscow, Democrats and the left proclaim its successor government as dangerous and evil.

So when John Brennan, Barack Obama’s CIA Director, says Trump’s statements in his joint press conference with Putin are “worse than high crimes and misdemeanors” and “treasonous,” he thinks we’ll just forget about, not only the fact that he’s a proven liar, but his own admitted vote in the 1970’s for a communist — for President of the United States. And this guy deigns to call Trump a traitor?

The great Victor Davis Hanson wrote of Brennan and his ilk:

“If there is such a thing as a dangerous ‘deep state’ of elite but unelected federal officials who feel that they are untouchable and unaccountable, then John Brennan is the poster boy…Brennan is typical of the careerist deep state.”

Victor-Davis-Hanson-300x300.jpg

Victor Davis Hanson

Hanson outlines the psychological tactic known as ‘projection’:

“To square their own circles of lying, our so-called best and brightest loudly accuse others of precisely the sins that they themselves commit as a matter of habit.”

The left is banking on the nation’s short attention span and diminished understanding of history in yet another attempt to claim an imminent Trumpocalyse. Much like their hysterical predictions about imminent catastrophe caused by global warming — after similarly dire warnings about a new ice age just years earlier — the left carries on as if the nation has collective amnesia regarding their about-face on the USSR and Russia.

And Brennan is hardly alone. Leftists ranging from congressional leaders like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), to hysterical opinion writers throughout the elite media — including the hateful Charles Blow of the New York Times, who authored a piece redundantly titled “Trump, Treasonous Traitor” — have piled on with their own projections. They have engaged in big-time virtue-signaling by condemning the President’s meeting with Putin in hopes that we have forgotten the left’s own disgraceful history regarding Soviet Russia.

We haven’t.

We might well be inclined to consider the criticism of the Trump summit leveled by the likes of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and others in the GOP because their own patriotism has never been questioned, and Trump is a fellow Republican. But when it comes to taking pseudo-patriotic leftist attacks on Trump seriously, most reasonable people have decided that Brennan, Schumer, Schiff and their leftist cohorts have become little more than the boys who cry wolf.

Dayag's video shows the two women arguing before the fight breaks out.

While the audio is difficult to hear, the row appears to be over money. At one point the woman behind the counter can be heard saying 'since you can't afford one'.

The customer can also be heard saying 'that's why your a** is behind the f***ing counter' before throwing a French fry across the restaurant.

She can also be heard repeatedly shouting 'fight me' across the restaurant.

The pair are eventually separated as another McDonald's worker tries to move the customer away, but the customer then begins fighting her instead.

That restarts the brawl, with the customer beaten in the head and face a second time before the original employee throws her over another table.

At one point the staff member can be heard shouting 'my momma aint dead, you respect my momma,' though it is not clear what this is in reference to.

The customer also picks up a chair and makes as if she is about to hit the employee, but is quickly disarmed having apparently given up all hope of winning.

A second piece of footage shows the fight breaking out after the customer hurls a milkshake at the employee.

Instead, the worker grabs the customer by the hair and begins raining punches down on her head and face.

She then picks her up and throws her over a nearby table as other employees and even a customer runs over to try and break it up.

A few more angry words are exchanged but no more punches are thrown before the footage cuts out.
