I remember very little from my Unix classes since that was decades ago, but I thought daemons work in the background doing useful scut work, by design. Whether they "chew up resources" seems to be some arbitrary conclusion he's made about daemons in general. Is John talking out his ass again?

$2000 on gear for riding a motorcycle like twice a year a few miles on public roads... figures.
That's a Shoei helmet, looks like a Parameter. Costs about $550-$600 with those graphics. It's nice, but a perfectly good helmet can be had for $200. Now, someone who rides a lot or tracks a bike might find a lot of use in the marginal returns for a $600 helmet (slight weight savings, maybe lessened air noise?). But we know that Wu barely rides, if at all. I wonder if they got the bike registered since the last field agent went by and saw it had no plate.
The same is likely true of the rest of Wu's gear. You can spend $1400 on a jacket, pants, gloves and riding boots... but you don't have to, unless you want to have a bunch of each or have the expensive brand names for everything. A couple hundred for a jacket is easily done, same for pants and less for boots and gloves. Having that level of armor or gear is more typical of the track or perhaps someone that rides all the time, not someone that can measure riding time in how long it takes to snap a selfie.
Like with the cars, Wu sure seems to spend the most possible to get the least returns. He really does get a thrill out of spending Frank's money, doesn't he?

Registering to vote is not really an especially rigorous process. In Massachusetts, where John lives, you can do so by mail or in person at the DMV and election offices. You can even do it online too if you don't want to stand around in line. Over in MA they don't even seem to be too particular about having valid ID if you registered before. And shit, get this: even if you don't have ID at all they seem to be willing to take your word and provisionally register you. You can cast an actual ballot during the election, and then they will let you know if they have any problems later! What about a Felony conviction you ask? That must pose a barrier, right? Well that's no problem either as long as you are not actually sitting in a cell in the clink at the time you try to register. It's all right here.
What this all means is that all that is really required is summoning the drive and fortitude to see through the end-to-end process of filling out a form with 8 fields of which two are purely optional and three are just your name. I just don't see how it could be much easier.
