Content creators in financial disarray after Patreon declines payments

Some creators on Patreon have been left in panic after finding that the platform has declined their payout for this month.

According to tweets from Patreon users, internal problems with the platform caused every single pledge to a creator to be declined. This chargeback also allegedly triggered credit fraud marks from banks.

Those using Patreon as a crowdfunding tool have also posted screenshots of their patrons' pledges being declined in bulk. This isn't ideal for creators relying on Patreon as a main source of income.

Yikes

Patreon is yet to comment on the issue. The last noise from the company was that it was resolving some connectivity issues.

I think we will see a lot of cow chimping because of this. Ready your salt reservoirs.

Bad shit and hassles hit all of us, if you're life plan is getting trannies to give you money when you play WOW.. .it's funny no matter what happens to you, even funnier when it's bad.

Anyone in a position to be more than mildly inconvenienced by this is a lolcow and a mongoloid.

I know a few people with patreons and their stuff went through okay, but they're also working part time with salaries in addition to working on building art careers.

I pay for a mix of safe for work patreons and nsfw patreons, mix of hobbyist artists and professional/full-time artists. All my payments went through fine.

I'm wondering how widespread this actually was.

Sometimes i wonder why sites like Patreon are so god damn stupid to move from US TO EU *no offense european users*.

For one side this affects those incels that call themselfs content creators but at the end of the day they con scammers with a fake smile.

For other side it really is a suckerpunch for plenty of swf/nsfw artist, cosplayers, musicians, freelancers game indie developers and more ... is just a big nuke to their progress just for crap that patreon does without letting them know in advance of this.

Anyways i guess in a few days i hope maybe idk can't tell the future, "Dont F*CK up again".

Honestly idk of other website that follows the same mechanic of patreon so maybe would be nice to have an efficient patreon competitor company that makes good calls regarding this as well other guidelines issues that content creators tend to deal with !

are you shitting on people who get paid for doing easy shit like playing games or people that are just financially incompetent?

i disrespectfully disagree with the former; if i could get paid for something i already do for fun (like playing vidya), i'm going to do just that

if people are foolish enough to give some faggot streamer/youtuber some money, that's on them

that being said i completely agree with the latter part
Let's be real here: It's not streamers and YouTubers complaining, they already got sponsorships and ads. It's porn artists who now have to do 'emergency slots' because they can't save money to save.. well, their life in this kind of situation.

So did this clear out the people that forgot they were giving to the likes of Yandere Dev? So many patreon people seem to rely on people that forgot about subscriptions.

That sucks, but...is it really a good idea to base your livelihood around random people on the internet giving you money?

This "real job" shit is retarded. If what you do makes you enough money to live, its a real job.

If you don't respect them that's fine but it's all just silly. There really isn't any reliable job that'll get you paid. In Canada and Australia the federal governments fucked up the payment systems with new computers and millions of federal employees went a year+ without pay or little pay.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_pay_system

Similarly, even the private sector can fuck you over and just not give you a pension because the CEO crashed the company and ran or heck, your boss can just decide not to pay you and you might not be able to do anything about it due to a lack of lawyer skills.

Not true, the first page shows a guy who is a anime youtube complaining about it.

Truth is most youtubers blow thier money on conventions, and pointless trinkets.

Which is actually why when the youtube ad revenue cut off in 2017, they all freaked out stating "they could lose thier homes."
When in reality this wasn't true as most youtubers still live with thier parents and don't pay federal income tax.

OPL chimes in and, predictably, doesn't understand what's going on.

Chris is confusing things with the incident where some tard gave him 1000 dollars to try to troll him or whatever, then charged back the payments, this triggered the investigation Chris is talking about.

Also, I have no idea what that fat bitch is even talking about. None of Chris's patrons recently complained recently. His eBay buyers complained, but that has nothing to do with Patreon.

I hope this doesn't squeeze the newer content creators who are making good stuff too hard. They don't deserve it. RLM doesn't. My boi Ian at forgotten weapons doesn't. Neither do the guys at the great war.

Phil does. Spoony does. Chris does. This whole debacle might give us a surge in content. Or at least a wake up to get off their arses and make something.

Agreed.. sort of. I don't think Chris deserves it to an extent, sure he begs but he's not doing destructive things like lead a cult of children who donate to him because he has them believing "MAH TAXES" is a real thing.

This is gonna really hurt some people, amd certainly not all of the folk who were still pledging via inertia are going to bother to re-sign.

The paypal pledges are unaffected, so if you’re on patreon, you’re hoping a lot of your less committed paypigs are doing it via paypal.

It's certainly going to clear out the deadwood.

Loss of Patreon means Ian doesn't get to stand in front of the actual Vercors Massif, not that he can't give a good lecture on it. He knows his way around the STEN gun, loss of patreon just means he can't fly to the museum in the UK where they let him hold serial number one in his hands while talking about it...

But the Phils and Spoonys of the world? Without their patreon sycophants, they have nothing to offer you can't get from the next chump that comes along.

Not everyone can field strip an M60 and point out its flaws, but almost anyone can shit their pants on cue and say "thats what I think of your video game, lulz..."
