Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I was thinking about it while I read it but what even was the deal with the new Fantastic Four comic not actually having the Fantastic Four? I know "It's part of the plot, they'll be in next month" and "hahaha, people always get mad at us for doing this" but.....you literally had a series, Two-on-One, which was supposed to lead into it as it's about searching for them.

Why couldn't this Fantastic Four issue be the last issue of Two-in-One and then start #1 with the team being back? Congrats, you pulled a funny on your audience but it's less you outsmarted them and more making everyone including yourself look like an idiot. You can't even say they just wanted that #1 money, they would've gotten it either way.

I don’t think Marvel has cared about sustainability in a long time. They’re more about the short term goal of tricking enough stores to move enough units for shipment and then go back to not giving a fuck what the readers think before they start the whole process over for the next batch of #1s.
It just astounds me that they are throwing away a legacy division for seemingly no reason, digital or direct sales won't help the comics division. I know they are banking on movie and TV properties being successful, but investors into TV and movies have always wanted more than just solid or OK returns. As they become more expensive to produce due to CGI and everything having to be more bombastic than the last, it won't take much for a hiatus. 2-3 under expectation returns and investors will start getting antsy, look at Star Wars. TLJ - under expectation film hated by the public transitioned into SOLO - a bomb that was OK by public reaction and Disney scrambling to save the franchise by cancelling films.

Congratulations IDW - you done played yourself :story:

Marvel doesn't even have the movies anymore which makes it even sadder. Just wishfully thinking eventually the MCU will use the replacements and give them royalties. Closest they've gotten was Sony making the MCU Spider-Man "What if Peter Parker was Miles Morales" which ironically makes ever replacing Peter redundant and of course, Marvel Studios using Captain Marvel who allegedly they had to make their own thing as the comic was borderline unusable for them.

Okay, they still have TV stuff like Agents of SHIELD which always amazes me when I remember it somehow hasn't ended yet. No idea what the numbers look like on that end.

This has always pissed me off about Captain Marvel. Instead of using the good stuff (Ms. Marvel-era Carol Danvers), they decided to throw that crap out the window for no real reason.they act like Carol didn’t have over 30 years of usable storylines before she became Captain Marvel, instead they decided to make the movie based on the 2012 storyline. Captain Marvel (Carol) has never been a best seller, popular, nor a critically acclaimed title and yet the usual suspects can’t stop shilling for it. The Ms. Marvel-era Carol Danvers on the other hand has a very dedicated fan base and had the sales to back it up. The fact that they can’t use any of the current stuff for the movie and are making the entire thing up should be a wake up call to the comic writers.

You can pretty much blame the non-success of CM on Kelly Sue Deconnick, who now has found a new host to have a parasite relationship with in DC Comics. She has both Aquaman and a Black Label Wonder Woman book.
Ever since Bendis jumped to DC the parasites from Marvel have been infiltrating DC, leading to people calling Bendis a Trojan horse. The Black Label was supposed to be reserved for the “All-Star” writers and artists in the industry. People with proven sales records like Scott Snyder, Frank Miller, Greg Capullo, John Romita JR, etc... the only outlier being Kelly Sue Deconnick. She is as far from an “All-Star” as you can get and yet she somehow got on the Black Label with barely any work on DC, all I could find was a pre-N52 storyline on Supergirl (65-67) in 2011. Outside of that she’s only done Marvel and Indie work. I can only assume she used her husband’s (Matt Fraction) influence and Andy Khouri’s woke points to get the job. People are abandoning Aquaman the moment Abnett leaves the book just because of her. It’s gonna be a fascinating to watch a book with very steady sales take a drop in sales the moment Kelly takes over.

As much as Kelly and the other stay away of the main universe and the Young Animal they can do whatever they want in other labels.
I mean, their comic are going to get axed.
PD: Kelly being in aquaman isn't a big deal, is not the first time a shitty author try to write aquaman and end their run quickly because they fuck up their mythos.

Lmao, this is gonna be a great trash fire.

It seems like the guy is in on the joke, otherwise he wouldn't be emphasizing the "very real fan" bit so much. That means he's at least somewhat capable of understanding comedy, which makes it absolutely impossible for me to figure out how he could have written the trash that is Border Town.

If it's not supposed to be a joke holy moley that's getting damn close to a poe's law event horizon. :story:
Just from viewing the creators’s social media accounts, I can confidently say we’re definitely on that path.

Ladies and Gentlemen...and troons, I present to you BEARCANO:

God help me for almost complimenting Dan Slot, but it actually isn't that bad of a book. Yes they aren't together in the book. Ben and Johny only find out the others are alive in the last panel. It's some decent character work. Even though it really lacks a kick ass adventure hook or villain or any such. It reminds me a bit of the start of Ultimate Spider-Man. You remember where Uncle Ben didn't die until Issue 3. It's yet another modern slow burn for Trades. Marvel has learned nothing.

Yeah fun facts that few realize. Mystique is actually Carol Danver's Arch Nemesis. She Rogue and Destiny were tangling with Ms. Marvel long before they ever crossed paths with the X-Men. Deathbird and the Shi'ar as well. Carol has a deep compelling pool of stories and villains. Just none of them have her being called "Captain Marvel".
