Gamergate was a bit like woodstock. Everyone sort of half remembers it and the ones that invested totally in it make it out to be more important than it really was. The ones on stage played to adoring crowds but could not adapt to the wave of the future and became less and less relavant.
It is this nostalgia that keeps many of them going, especially mundanematt. But the funny thing is I dont really remember Sargon or Vee or Matt being a big wheel in gamergate at the time. I first heard about the eron gjoni post from a gaming board I was a member of a long while back and I didnt think too much of it at the time, mostly because it was long and boring and gave me the impression that gjoni was a massive pussy bitch more than anything else. Then I watched IA's video on it and watched him put everything into context. Sargon and Vee and Matt came much later and never really provided anything for Gamergate. They didnt participate in it at all really. They didnt get involved in Ops. They had no part in advancing the story, so to speak. They were kind of like news readers. I first subscribed to Sargon because he was possibly the most coherent stenographer of events in gamergate at the time and even then I found his content woefully lacking and missing out on various events. He never had any control over it. He really was a minor character.
I think Milo was the true leader of Gamergate after Jim left. When he did that debate with the journalist ethics council it was pretty much case closed for ethics in games journalism and all Sargon did was livestream it and provide some really boring commentary. Milo also came out of the blue. He was a nobody until he started talking about gamergate and then just exploded because unlike Sargon he had charisma and a real live personality and actually did some investigation and wasn't merely repeating what was already said like a human RSS feed (cough matt cough). Milo advanced the plot and for that he surpassed Sargon, who had been on the scene far longer.
But I suppose all revolutions, no matter how petty, get subverted and the subversion always comes from within. Sargon was the one who announced gamergate dead, but only after it had become apparent that there was nothing left to fight for. In that period he attempted to turn his channel into a sort of game dev blog for Necromancer, occasionally interspersed with some updates about gamergates death throes. I guess once he decided to ditch necromancer and take up the mantle of 'slayer of blue haired thots' he already had an audience that was interested in seeing feminist bullshit broken down. He led those people down the path of 'FEMINISM REKT with FACTS and LOGIC Episode 34534534' videos and brought about a stagnation.
And from there he went on and became what we know today.
I also think that it was the people like Sargon and Matt and Vee and all the hipster welfare fucks trying to raise money to get their sex change op were the ones that really destroyed the movement. The real motivators behind it, the ones that set the wheels in motion, bailed out as soon as they saw it was going nowhere, thus allowing people like Sargon to move in and take over and allow it to stagnate. In the end gamergate didnt accomplish anything. Games journalism is still as corrupt and incestuous as ever. Still rife with SJW nonsense and still as incompetent. Sargon achieved nothing.
lol I totally remember when Sargon first started in GamerGate. He was just a new "intellectual" on the block or possibly some small time youtuber at the time. He hung out with King of Poz on almost every stream and ranted about DIGRA until he got owned by a feminist. I think that's when he switched to SJW's. There was also his necromancer kickstarter but from what I hear it was proven to be a scam and that Sargon never gave a shit about game dev
I also remember Vee before Sargon too. He fucking called out Angry Joe and roasted him, but then TB yelled at him for being mean to his friend and threatened to leave GG. Right after that Vee became the cuck he is today.
