Echo chamber a hell of a drug, I think at this point he legitimately believes nobody can get one over on him. I think he's under the impression even his missteps were merely because of small oversights on his point. Didn't he blame the Winters fiasco on "being over-prepared" and claiming he was trying to fit in more information than she would respond to, giving people the impression he was dropping spaghetti and not that he actually made an asshole of himself?
