Since Halloween is tomorrow, I thought I could do something a little special.

You know Creepypastas, right? Those scary stories from the Internet like Slenderman or Ben Drowned? Well, Creepypastas have their own fandom. At first, this does not seem very surprising. I mean, there are plenty of well written creepypastas out there. But when you dive a little deeper, you start seeing some real scary shit. Most notably, there is thenewalfmonster68.

You may have seen this image if you browse the Cringeworthy Gallery on Know Your Meme. Well, this is only one of his most famous works. He lashes out at anyone who criticizes his art. In fact, once he learned his "time to killed people" picture started gaining a "following" on KYM, he made an account just to defend his art. Oh, and he is also a Bro.

And now, we move onto another part of this wonderful fandom. All of the Jeff The Killer Fangirls who draw him like some kawaii yaoi bishounen.

Seriously, just search "Jeff The Killer" on deviantart and then come back. Just do it.

Yeah, the Jeff the Killer creepypasta doesn't make sense to me. If he cut his eyelids off wouldn't his eyes dry out? Why does his Caucasian brother have a Chinese name (Liu)? And household bleach doesn't turn your skin paper white to the touch or set you on fire...

I prefer the Joker as a psychotic mass murderer with a disfigured face/smile kthnxbai.

I've always imagined Jeff stopping in the middle of murdering some guy to apply eyedrops and antibiotics for his scars. Then he just goes straight back to ripping the guy's guts out.

God, creepy pastas are such fucking trash. The templates of "haunted game cartridge" and "monstrous humanoid that's threatening in a nebulous way" are extremely overdone. Even the ones that don't follow that formula always seem to be bogged down with cliches and amateurish prose completely lacking in suspense and tension. Jeff the killer is by far the worst of them all though. You could argue that stuff like Slenderman and Ben Drowned was creepy for a while but Jeff has always been bad. Once the weirdness of that one photo of him wears off, it starts to dawn on you that the whole concept is faffy, derivative and lifeless.

Then again, that might just be the English student and the Lovecraft fan in me getting huffy. Regardless, I don't appreciate bad literature and bad horror.

In all honesty, I can enjoy creepypastas as long as they're well-written. Of course, good ones are hard to come by. But there are some hidden gems out there.

It's basically CRAWLING IN MY SKIN + 5edgy. The exact kind of thing that attracts 12-year-olds.

Gotta admit -- this Creepypasta tale was one of the most original and disturbing horror yarns I've read in a long time. The fact that it's done in an online-forum dialogue (kinda like the one we're having now) just made it that much more chilling.
That is by far the least autistic creepy pasta ever. I was going to link it actually.

Creepypastas based on video games such as Ben Drowned or Lost Silver (or whatever it's called) also makes me roll my eyes. If the video game is possessed or SO scary, couldn't you just turn the thing off and throw the cartridge away? Also I feel like the creepypastas are riding off the creepiness of the original games to make them SO scary. The Ben Drowned video just looks like a super glitchy game to me.
