It’s an interesting question. I’m assuming their childhoods were shit or else they’d not have ended up where they did, but as adults they made the choice to not get help for their vulnerabilities (and therapy has been a mainstream thing for a long, long time now). You could argue that they didn’t seek help because they didn’t know there was anything wrong. I don’t have sympathy for Dylan because he’s hurt people and clearly recognizes it or he wouldn’t try to cover it up, but his victims weren’t jumped on the street either. They wanted to abuse themselves. That’s not mentally sound, but if that means they lack fundamental agency then we should take away their ability to live independently because they’re incapable. It’s obviously not that cut and dry. That being said, I do have sympathy for these guys, insofar as they use this as a wake-up call if they get out.
When you're caught in an abusive relationship, it's extremely hard to get out. You rationalize pretty much everything in favor of your abuser. And if you have friends to support you, which these pups don't, it takes a lot of effort on their part to get you to see what they see without rationalizing it away. Even then, there's a good chance you're still stuck because your abuser made sure you were quite dependent on him, as has been noted in this thread with Tank. He got out, but ended up right back with his abuser in the end.
Even for all of his pathetic need to grow his balls for his fetish, he still can't hold a candle to this guy.

Not to mention they were surrounded by three other men who thought exactly the same. Not only did Dylan manipulate them for extended periods of time until he could force them to be completely dependant on him for literally everything, but they probably had a "mob mentality" thing going on. They were groomed until they believed everything Dylan said or did was right and everything that goes against him is wrong. If they thought something Dylan was doing was wrong, they'd wait and see if any of the other pups spoke out. None of them would, and so they'd think "Of course it's okay. Master said to do it and none of the other pups think it's wrong." They have it even worse than if they were a single person with an abusive partner.
