Really the ideal women back then would be considered skinny fat today. Low weight from being much shorter than today's woman but also have a high body fat percentage if they were able to avoid manual labor and were well fed. Artists were pretty well off, so skinny fat women would be all they knew. A skinny fat woman would be the ideal because a little chub meant she was able to bare children more easily than your average malnourished peasant woman.

People believing adoption is an easy process is also a pet peeve, it's much easier to make a baby to adopt one. Private agencies are very picky about who they adopt to, and adoption from foster care system will not guarantee you an infant. The foster care system also wants you adopt entire families. I'm talking sometimes 5 children in the family from toddlers to teenagers. The foster care kids will most of the time come with emotional and behavioral issues from their shitty life with there parents.

Sure surrogacy is an option, but that too comes with problems like the woman wanting to keep the baby for herself. You can't compel her to hand over the baby if she wants to keep it, it really doesn't matter if you used a donor egg and/or sperm. Legally the kid is hers in most cases. You paid for the surrogacy, the multiple rounds of IVF, now you have this big complicated custody battle and your transgender wife will probably never be your kid's legal mother.

A couple with two biological males is much more difficult when it comes to having a family. Wanting to have kids the natural and easiest way by fucking isn't a malfunction.
