"attainable"

Jake talks in that weird way to other people because he's trying to coach them on how to treat him. He's way too self-centered and in his own head to think of an approach that centers their thoughts or feelings. It's like the cluster B golden rule. Every expression of concern or performative anger in someone's name you see from him is exactly how he'd like to be treated by his "friends."

Whenever I hear how all Jake really wants is for people to tell him "take care of yourself, be gentle with yourself, it's all okay, here's something soothing to watch," every time, I hear this in my head:

I guess he thinks he’s already got the grey hair, and the miracle of hormones will take care of the rest?
The fact he seems to think that "having grey hair" equates to an attainable cosplay makes me rather worried we will soon get leaked pictures of some of his other cosplay ideas...

Way to confirm you live with your mum, Jake.

Why the fuck doesn't he open a GFM or similar specifically for moving costs? He doesn't even bother updating his Patreon so why on earth would more people pledge to it?

Spamming it enough times got him to $312 a month for shitting himself, so no doubt there are enough idiots in the world with spare cash to waste on useless people.

I'm surprised no one has tried to corner him and get specific details. They wouldn't even have to accuse him of lying, it could just be out of concern to help Jake plan the next move.

That's an instant block from Jake. I'm sure others have tried asking the real questions, only that they get the swift block from Jake so we won't get the receipts.

Jake retweets two "Riot bad!" posts about a former employee salty that a character they worked on is really popular now:

Reading into it further, it's a guy who was actually an engineer who helped on the rework of Akali this year & not the main creator or an artist. It's causing a fair bit of drama on tumblr & League of Legends subreddits because it fits the narrative of "Riot bad!" but zero proof is provided and the person in question has since deleted their tumblr and twitter. Some kids doxxed him, but censored out all the details:

Jake didn't comment on it yet, probably pouring over the details to see if he can safely fire a volley of paragraphs about how awful Riot is to him and his friends online. Probably the dumbest part is everybody thinking it's a woman/she, when it's a guy named Zack North.

Worked on this girl for 9 months. Now this new music video comes out and she’s immensely popular, arguably one of the most popular characters in the LoL universe.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad she’s a huge hit, it’s super exciting to see so many people love the character design and the gameplay, and know that I contributed directly and significantly to the behind-the-scenes engineering that makes it all work. It’s validating.

But it’s also so fucking melancholy to know I did so much work and put in so much time for such a shitty company, run by shitty people, and the reward I got for it was unemployment.

I threw a lot into this character. I cried at work. I started getting panic attacks, which I’ve never gotten before. I developed persistent heart palpitations from the daily overwhelming stress and had to go to the hospital (this is true, seriously.) I basically dropped all my friends outside of work. My manager (and his manager!) lied to me constantly to keep me working. They said I was doing a great job but to keep it up. Don’t worry, it’s going to turn out great, and it’ll all be worth it in the end – recognition, a raise, probably a promotion in short order. They promised me the world. When she was finally finished, I didn’t even get to go to the release party, they just walked me out.

I remember a quote from my last day, it sticks out in my mind: “I know you realize this is really hard for me,” my manager said. Yes, in the end, when he awkwardly informed me I didn’t have my dream job anymore – or any job at all – and then stared back at my shell-shocked face, my thousand-yard stare, the only thing he felt was sorry for himself.

She launched with no major bugs and was considered a technical success. Doesn’t matter. Get the fuck out.

I don’t know how I feel. A weird sensation of pride and intense bitterness. I did a good job; at least, I think I did. Unfortunately, internal validation is the only kind I’m going to get.

Part 2:

arizonabay:

hey, so I have a lot of new followers from the Akali post, and just wanted to clarify: I didn’t work on the new skin at all, just base Akali. I made the post because I had disconnected from league for a while and the music video featuring Akali front and center sort of brought it all back for me. It blew up and got really popular and forced me to confront it.

Also, I was the lead engineer, not the “creator” as one person said – the gameplay designer was CertainlyT, and the actual concept art was done by TheBravoRay. There were a variety of others who worked on the visuals, sound, etc. For the record everyone on the Akali team was all great and I enjoyed working with them. The artists and designers were immensely kind, easy to work with, and excellent at their jobs.

Most of my work involved adding technical bits to the League engine, like the smoke shroud, working on tooling for the various artists, and adding some features like the triggers for the wall jump animation on her E. And the challenges I had were dealing with other engineers and managers at Riot, not the artists.
