A brawl broke out in a packed Milwaukee courtroom Wednesday after a former daycare owner was sentenced in the death of a seven-week-old baby.

The fight erupted Wednesday shortly after 37-year-old Claudette Mitchell was led away in handcuffs after being sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.

Mitchell was charged in the death of Savaiyah Reid, who was fatally injured at her daycare in August 2017.

Originally charged with first-degree reckless homicide, Mitchell pleaded guilty in September to neglecting a child, resulting in death.

In court, Mitchell said she did not cause the baby’s injuries but feels responsible.

She said in a court statement: 'I can't express how sad I am for this tragedy.'

After sentencing, an altercation broke out involving about 50 members of the defendant’s and victim’s families and friends.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department says additional deputies and DA investigators were called to restore order.

The department said: 'An emotional homicide case involving the death of a two-month-old child resulted in a post-sentencing altercation between about 50 members of the defendant’s and victim’s families and friends.

'Additional security was in place due to prior contentious hearings, but the defendant’s side did not comply with deputies’ orders to remain in the courtroom while the victim’s family was being escorted out.'

I don't blame people for being mad or getting angry over someone getting 3.5 years for murdering someone's kid.
The melee could have been avoided if niggers were capable of following instructions.

Do people really leave their 7 week old babies at daycares?

Welcome to the United States, where pretty much no low-wage/hourly workers get a single day of paid maternity leave. You can technically legally take off up to 12 weeks and they shouldn't give your job to someone else, but if they do, you won't really have any recourse (at best, a lawyer will get the money and you'll never see more than a few thousand dollars, while now being blackballed from jobs in your area). Women in the United States die from postpartum complications at a rate that's not normally seen in the developed world, because hotel chambermaids and fast-food workers living paycheck-to-paycheck are stumbling into work 3 days postpartum, while still passing clots the size of a fist and at huge risk for infection and exhaustion.

This is the daycare center owner, who did not cause the injuries that lead to the death. Is there info on who actually did? Was that worker charged and sentenced? What was the sentence? What was the original situation? Too little background.

Daycare centers...

Tough shit. Maybe they should have waited to get knocked up until they were financially secure enough to start a family. This is Ethiopian-level of family planning here.

Actions have consequences. The choice to have a child is one that should not be taken as lightly as it is in this country. This "omg being a mom is so hard, plz halp" bullshit when reality dawns on them needs to stop. I didn't get fucked, you did. It's not my goddamn problem or my responsibility what happened because of it, it's squarely yours.

Younger women still in school, college or :islamic: high school :islamic:, with no support system capable of taking care of the baby have to rely on daycares as well. Lower income areas even have specially dedicated branches of staff for daycares on campus. The high school I went to had its own wing where pregnant or new mothers (among other types of kids not suited for "gen pop") would go to during regular school hours, similar to Special Ed. There were also night classes too, but it was always spooky to pass by the hallway where nobody else went to while you were running an errand for a teacher or something.

This article from when the baby was killed gives some better background information.

The mother was working at Aurora Health Care when she dropped the baby off, but I can't find any other information about her. The grandmother, Sherry Green, seems to be the one mainly dealing with the press.

The daycare itself has probably the most ghetto trash name, Who's Luvin You day care :story:

It had received nine citations in June for issues like "having a bottle of Clorox in a cabinet under the sink in the bathroom" and not running background checks on two other workers.

Claudette claimed to be the only staff member present when Savaiyah was there, but this article mentions that a 17 year old girl was considered a suspect too.

Reading all of the baby's injuries gave me flashbacks to Baby Tumble Surprise commercials :c

Who's Luvin You, indeed.

Unfortunately, poor people often end up having kids due to some circumstances or another. Working poor mothers to death and screwing up their child as a result won’t help anyone.

Would this be a bad time for the age old question of "Where's the dad?". Like employers would even hire these people for low wage jobs if they had to pay full maternity leave everytime they got knocked up. Gotta fix the mentality behind this, but eh, that's actual work.
