Popeye's 90th Anniversary Web Series

The exceptional individuals that are behind this shit had to defend their own show from the criticism on their own Facebook pages. Who the fuck puts money on this shit? And most importantly why? Even the modern shitty reboots put some fucking effort on the animations. Popeye doesn't even punch fucking Brutus!!!!!

I love the go to excuse for almost any reboot of older shows is that its for an new generation of fans to justified it's existence. This show has almost all the worst aspects of western animation from limited go animate levels of animation to overall bland designs all it needs is to say it was help made by some artist how has been no Tumblr too much and that is all.

...This is the LAST thing I expected to be remade, given the outrage mentality behind his 21st-century reception.

"Oh! This show is aimed for the new generation!"

Oh, go fuck yourselves you sanctimonious Tumblr refugees, there are people who know EXACTLY why this was rebooted and that you knew how we'd react to it.

"It's to introduce Popeye to new genration of fans"
... show them older cartoon and if you find something problematic have a talk with your kid about how things were different then?

This is just cheap and poinless and people are getting tired of too much reboots.

So he doesn’t hit people, he doesn’t smoke, he doesn’t talk, no one’s romantically pursuing Olive and apparently they’re all kids now, despite the fact that they’re still sailors. Did anyone involved in this give a single fuck about any aspect of the original? It just looks like it was made based on the description of someone who saw the cartoon once thirty years ago.

lol kids these days don't even know who Popeye is.
Growing up I only knew Popeye as the guy on spinach cans.

Aside from the late-1970s/early-1980s Saturday morning cartoon, the Robin Williams movie, and the Nintendo arcade game, I also knew about Popeye as a kid because of the candy cigarettes which I believe are still being sold today but as "candy sticks" and they changed the format of the box to look less like a cigarette carton.

Okay, that new web series is cancer. It seriously looks like one of those disturbing "YouTube Kids" videos made by creepers. What the fuck.

Anywho, I loved Popeye as a kid. I remember when Cartoon Network used to show a lot of classic cartoons, and that's how I found out about Popeye.

Also, just putting this out there ... Years ago, Sony Animation Studios was going to make a Popeye movie. They canceled it ... For the Emoji Movie.

Here was the test footage they released. It looked so promising:
