Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I noticed that the sales of current comics are down to sub 2K. Will they become rare collectors items someday?

I've wondered that myself, but the thing about collectors items is they have to be rare AND valuable.

"Value" is determined by the person who wants it, but it's usually because something was good, the creator/creation went on to better things, or it has historical significance.

They are "rare", sure. But they have no value. It's not like someone in 50 years from now is going to want to buy their childhood comic collection featuring the works of Zoe Quinn and a sex offender. It's not like these people are going to have a breakout mainstream hit and now suddenly everybody wants their "orange man bad" comic books. And even if that did happen somehow, you can bet that if Marvel is still around they'd issue a bunch of reprints and trades to cash in.

But if you want to hop on the speculator market, I'd say go for it. Given how these books are flooding clearance stores, you can pick up a bunch for a few dollars. It's not like you're going to break the bank.

What you're describing is basic supply and demand.

Like you said, supply is low, but so is demand. It is impossible to know which, if any, comics today will be in demand in the future. Demand for old comics typically ties into overall trends and things unrelated to comics, like tie-in movies and cartoons. When the X-Men get a new cartoon based on a particular run of the comics, demand for that run goes up. When a writer/artist becomes a superstar, demand for his old stuff goes up. Etc. Etc. You never would have been able to predict five years ago that old Cyberfrog comics would be selling for triple digits on ebay, but they are because of how aggressively EVS has marketed himself and Cyberfrog over the last year.

The added wrinkle is the now ubiquitous presence of reprints, trades, and digital copies floating around. You have access to nearly the entire Marvel and DC back catalog with just a simple DuckDuckGo search. You no longer have to go to a comic book store or convention to buy back issues of a comic you want to read.

Its impossible to know if any of today's sub-10k comics will become valuable in 5+ years, and I definitely wouldn't recommend any speculative investing unless you're willing to properly store them for the literal decades it will take for them to be worth more than their cover price.

I wonder if more of these teenage girls he was going after are going to chime in? Sounds like he's expecting the worst.

Micah and JDA have a slapfight:
TLDW: Micah calls Jon Del Arroz a Vox Day toadie and a sore little bitch. Apparently JDA has been sperging again about CG being infested with left-wing SJWs for kicking VD out of Comicsgate and Micah (one of many conservatives on CG) got fed up with his bs.

I’ll keep an eye on this comment.

I’m on a self imposed twitter vacation until the holidays are over. I probably won’t be contributing as much except for Non-Twitter stuff.

Flying Sparks "looks" great. Or at least it looks better than most modern books. It looks kinda 90's-00's. The story is a bit off and unpolished. Like pretty much any creator indie property I've seen it really could have used a good professional with a clue bat whacking the writer upside the skull every now and then and telling him to redo some shit till it made sense.

Cyberfrog, huh that wasnt very hard. He never disavowed CG, he did leave and came back in <48hours because he felt like he gave a win to his twitter enemies:

I take it RealTalk103 doesn’t like Micah, which makes me curious why he subscribed to him:

Oh maybe that explains it.

Does anyone else remember that charity live stream that EVS did for Mark Propst? He is an artist who needed rent money and put up a GoFundMe. I believe he asked for $1,000 and chat raised him over $3,000. I was curious to see what happened to him, so I checked out his Facebook page a few days ago and I swear his guy needs to be on suicide watch. I don't know how to archive Facebook, but here are some shots:

Dealing with his sons' new diagnosis of Graves disease, which honestly, isn't that bad. But he is freaking out:
1.PNG 2.PNG Here he is selling art from his future crowdfunding campaign, before the campaign has even started:3.png Had his internet turned off:4.png Again trying to raise money: 5.png Posted today, he is going to lose power today: 6.png

I feel for the guy, but I don't see how he can run a campaign. I hope he gets his shit worked out.

I feel for the dude too but he needs a paying regular gig & commissions. Not to launch a crowdfunded book. That’s a big thing & needs a lot of groundwork laid before he starts even soliciting funds & the payout doesn’t come for a month or 3. He’s struggling to manage this month.
