🐱 TikTok Has a Nazi Problem

Users on mega popular children’s lip-synching app TikTok are sharing calls for violence against people of colour and Jews, as well as creating and sharing neo-Nazi propaganda, Motherboard has found.

Some accounts verbatim read “kill all n*****,” “all jews must die,” and “killn******.” (The words are uncensored on the app, which is a sort of melding of Vine and Instagram that allows users to create short videos synced to music.)

Motherboard found the content on the Chinese-made app, which is used by hundreds of millions people, many including teenagers and children in the United States, within minutes of starting a basic search.

“We’ve never talked to Tik Tok, but clearly we need to,” Heidi Beirich, director of the intelligence project at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), told Motherboard in an email. “They need the site to be cleaned up—and now.”

The news signals social media platforms’ continued reckoning with hate speech. But even with Facebook mishandling its approach to white nationalism, and Discord providing a haven for serious neo-Nazi groups, TikTok is doing a particularly bad job at moderating white supremacists on its platform.

The hate speech material on TikTok is varied. Some accounts signaled support for Atomwaffen, a violent neo-Nazi group linked to the murders of several Jewish people across the United States. One account Motherboard found was called “Race War Now.” The user profile photo of another account was of an offensive caricature of a Jewish person, depicting a greedy rat.

One video contained a succession of users making Nazi salutes. Another video included the message, “I have a solution; a final solution,” referring to the Holocaust.

Hashtags include 1488, a number important to neo-Nazis, and Sieg Heil, the infamous Nazi slogan.

One TikTok video Motherboard found, which encourages viewers to readSiege, a book popular with neo-Nazis, included the hashtag #FreeDylannRoof. Roof was given nine consecutive life sentences for the massacre of nine African Americans at the historically Black Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015.

“It’s just outrageous and dangerous, given how many young people, like Dylann Roof, have been radicalized online and then shifted to violence,” Beirich said.

TikTok merged with the app Musical.ly in August, after ByteDance purchased the latter in 2017. The app has garnered wide praise both from its army of users and media outlets; the New York Times recently described TikTok as “the only good app,” and the Verge called it “joyful.”

When contacted by Motherboard, TikTok did not provide a statement in time for publication.

Beirich said what Motherboard found “is horrifying. That is especially true since this service targets children and I can’t think of worse things to be putting in front of them.” Some of the people in and sharing the offensive videos appear to be children. Some of the accounts say that the posts are a “joke” or “ironic,” but as Motherboard has reported multiple times, these “jokes” can and do radicalize real people and nonetheless harm already marginalized groups.

Caroline Sinders, research fellow with Digital HKS, who has studied online extremism, told Motherboard in an online chat, “I don’t think it matters even if something is a humorous joke in meme culture, I think it’s important to a center a platform’s policies on harassment and hate speech.”

“‘killallni****s’ isn’t a joke; I would argue it is a form of hate speech,” she added.

Some accounts do complain about being reported by other users. One user who complained as such hosted a video of someone in a Klu-Klux Klan style cloaks.

At the time of writing, TikTok’s terms of use state that “TikTok is an inclusive community. It is not ok to attack or incite violence against other users.”

Motherboard has previously found other content moderation issues with TikTok. Earlier this month, Motherboard found people were soliciting nude images of young users on the platform.

ByteDance recently said it would increase the number of content moderators on TikTok from 6,000 to 10,000 people.

My guess is that at most, 50% of the people spewing edgy "((("incorrect opinions")))" anywhere on the internet are being genuine. In reality, it's probably closer to 30%, or even lower.
Why would someone say "The holocaust didn't happen, but I wish it did and that the Nazis expanded their systematic extermination to every other non-white race after they deleted Jews from Planet Earth." if they don't actually mean it? Because it's fun, even more so nowadays with rampant censorship everywhere online. I'd reckon the 15 year old zoomer babytrolls are having the time of their life right now. Wouldn't you if you were in their shoes?
thats waaay to specific a casual troll... hitler did nothing wrong, 1488 kill all niggas would sound more like one of those trolls.

Why are Nazis involved with every form of degeneracy? There is a disturbing number of diaperfur nazis. There's these pedo Nazis. At the end of the day, these people aren't a threat and SPLC should be happy because the people using these sites are more apt to be fat, unemployed, high school dropouts than to be productive members of society. They're literally making the point for the SPLC.
Because pretty much every neo nazi who is not an inbred hick or a straight up troll is by nature an absolute autistic attention whore who is desperate to offend and upset and outrage and whatever solely to get themselves off on how "feared/hated" they are, and since screeching about "muh-nazis takin over the world" has been in vogue in media land since 2016 they have even more motivation to gravitate towards nazi schtick.

Probably the best example of this phenomena in question is our own Ahuviya Harel, who I can only guess has not embraced nazism himself solely because he knows it will get him legitimately stabbed in whatever west coast shithole he currently resides in

(Also speakin of tik tok here is some free nostalgia)

Because progressives see imaginary Nazi everywhere, and that's funnier than anything else in the world.
Oh its more than that. They* need a massive omnipotent nazi conspiracy to be real since it justifies all their censorship and authoritarianism and their most spiteful and fanatical horseshit and absolves them any responsibility to be honest or even halfway decent to anybody who dissents, since the "WE ARE FIGHTING NAZIS! WE ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY" narrative means they automatically are on "team good guys" no matter what they do, and so long as they declare those they stamp on nazis they will never get questioned by their peers

If this conspiracy doesnt exist then...well...what exactly justifies all the stupid and horrible shit they say and do? why are they needed? why should anybody listen to them?

*by "they" I mean the couple hundred/one or two thousand media and PR people and professional activists responsible for turning left wing politics into a bigger autistic shitheap than a kiwifarms scat orgy

Honestly the far Left has done more to keep the Nazi party alive than any white supremacy group.

And Tik Tok doesn't have a Nazi problem it has a dumbass teenager problem. Just like Vine before it.

Frankly I used to actually be kinda worried that the actual neo nazis out there would take advantage of the SJW/woke media shit and use it to covertly recruit and shit....but then I remembered that they are easily as autistic and pathetic as said SJWs/woke media people but without even a fraction of the funds and influence they have (anne-frankly SJW media influence has proven to be rather lacking in terms of public indoctrination given the whole trumpocalypse thing)

If we're talking real tangible non-buzzword Nazis/neo-nazis it's because idealogies of race-based supremasism typically attract people who have little to no value as people or members or society so they cling to their skin color as a reason they're not a total waste if space. The overlap comes in because furries and pedos have no value as people or members of society.

It's stuff like this that makes me look back on the words of Anton Lavey, the founder of the Church of Satan

"Satan has only been the Church's greatest friend because he's the one that kept them in business all this time"

The Left and the Nazis, whether real or fake, literally cannot survive without the other. If they were really as serious as they say they were about wiping each other off the face of the Earth forever, they would have done so a long damn time ago. Only that will mean they will loose out on whatever attention and money they get from rabblesrousing over one side or the other

You know... at the rate these articles get turned out...

Are the vox writers just part time nazis, then they write a scathing report on their own activities? It would explain how they keep finding nazis to be outraged about, since I've never encountered even one in real life.
Well according to Vox, Jezebel, HuffPo, CNN, and many others, I should not be able to do LITERALLY ANYTHING without encountering a cluster of Nazis. You thought a racoon got into your garbage? Nope, Nazis. Garbage disposal clogged? Nazis. Occasionally it might be a rare deepwater Jew, but only if you live in Florida or Costa Rica.
