How often do you guys have nightmares? Any you remember vividly? I find myself losing a lot of sleep lately because every single time I settle down for bed, I have one.

I used to have sleep paralysis about 2 or 3 times a month, but I've gotten it under control to a few times a year now.

I have this dream where it’s dark as fuck, and when I go outside a bunch of birds fly full force onto the pavement and kill them selves. It has been a reoccurring dream these past few months. Shit is pretty freaky.

I'm on Effexor, which is capable of turning even inocuous dreams into night terrors when you're experiencing withdrawals. No kidding, it once turned a dream about my opening a cereal museum into an exercise in sweaty mortal horror.

About three years ago I had the recurring nightmare of being in a library, and I'd see a collection of books with black covers on a stand. Somehow, the mere sight of these books would put me in a state of absolute terror. I'd wake up shaking and unable to go back to sleep.

I don't really get nightmares, far as I know, I just get weird dreams with elements of what you'd find in nightmares. The most common I get is loosing my teeth in that they just individually break apart into crunchy pieces in my mouth, but then everything in the dream continues like normal (for being weird).

Well, actually a couple of nights ago I dreamt that my family and I had like gone to Disneyland for some reason and on the way home, we had to go through a tunnel and almost crashed into a tanker truck that had spun out of control. Apparently in the dream, one of my brothers had to go elsewhere so he wasn't with us, but he had sent his twin a text warning us about it, but the twin didn't read it/tell us and it almost got everyone killed as a result. Dream continued on from there, so I didn't wake up from it or anything.

Fever dreams, man.

Idk why but sometimes my nightmares are about resident evil games. The scariest game for me was Amnesia and yet I never dreamed about it. I only played like 3 resi games and but sometimes they haunt my dreams. When I wake up I know it's not scary but when I dream I'm scared shitless.

Some other "nightmares" are that I have to learn for an important test but it's already too late.

Had one that has stuck with me for 20 odd years. It was a weird perpetual twilight and I was running, I don't know where from but I was trying to get home. As I got closer to home the sun was coming up ( oddly optimistic) and as I round the corner near my house some Rasputin looking fuck in black shoots me right through the chest. I hit the ground hard and that's when I woke up and holy fuck my chest hurt bad. My heart hurt, my breast bone hurt, I was sweating like crazy. Shit still haunts me to this day.

Other than that it's generally spiders, being eaten alive, or being thrown from things at high speeds.

God i have a million stories about these.

I remember a set of re-accuring nightmares i had when i was in my teens about cormorants.
Every night for months i had a nightmare where something horrible would happen out of nowhere; my family and i were having a picnic when the earth swallowed us up, sitting in a room when the walls closed in on us, my brother is falling to pieces while nobody cares etc, the only factor linking these together is that a cormorant would always be there, just standing there, watching, usually never doing anything at all. The only nightmare i remember the fucking bird doing anything at all was when it vomited up a bunch of meat while it kinda dissolved in front of me.
Looking back, it was pretty stupid and i like to laugh about it, it's just weird how consistent it was and how eerily real it seemed. Might be good writing material for any aspiring authors out there at least.

I had more nightmares after my mom died where she was still sick and those were regular at the time. I have less of them now. Most of my dreams aren't interesting enough to count as nightmares.

If nightmares are monsters, murderers and the end of the world then I have tons of nightmares. But I don't believe in those things so it's not scary, I might be stressed out for a bit but when that monster crawls out of the wall I think "ok, that's bullshit" and now it's a lucid dream that I can mess around in. I check out the creature design, the setting, the setup, where it's all going, are there any characters besides me, how cohesive is the whole thing etc. I've found some pretty cool stuff in those dreams.

My real nightmare is finding out that I have an apartment in the city/neighborhood I lived in as a kid but I forgot about it and haven't paid rent in 10 years, so I have to travel there and solve that situation somehow. This is not an uncommon dream, other people have it as well although with some tweaks and changes, I believe it's the adult version of the child nightmare of finding yourself in class without pants, with age that dream turns into "today is the final exam in [subject] and and for one or two years I've forgotten that I even had that class", in adulthood that turns into forgetting about having an apartment, house, loan, bills or things like that.
