Bad webcomics

Gotta love how this one skips over the creepy as hell fetishized child abuse role play and diaper shitting, that DDLGs like to do even outside their homes.
They do that for every fetish. Anything that could be creepy, painful, unsanitary, or just plain fucked up is given a nice sparkly rainbow coating of "no kink shaming, every kind of sex is valid" UwU.

Which is funny because the author and her husband seem really vanilla, and given the opportunity to actually participate in said fetishes they chicken out.

Also they have so many furries guest artist, I'm dreading if a zoo comic will pop up.

I've never understood the need for full nudity in (presumably finalized) reference sheets for characters that probably won't ever be nude in the first place. It's something I've really seen from people who get a shitton of porn commissions lately.

Honestly there is a lot more simple and innocent explanation: what’s underneath affects that’s on top. This is why anatomical guides start often with skeleton structures. Knowing what can and can’t bend as well as where mussels and common fat deposits are important to create believable and expressive character drawings even in less realistic styles. I don’t draw basically any NSFW stuff and most of my character refrence sheets have naked turn around and sometimes also hairless head from side and front. This helps with posing, clothing folds and avoid many amateur mistakes like drawing skull as hair. Seriously naked refrence sheets are pretty standard in professional illustration, comics and animation.

You can see this How to draw Disney Duck Comics by Carl Barks. There’s naked and handless Donald at upper corner and just circle with eyes for building expressions.

I know that much; that's pretty normal if not mandatory in character-based multimedia.

Specifically in my post, I was talking about it being a thing in furrydom to have it in a way that's more detailed than the example from my original quote on their references to the point of getting into junk-related specifics. (I've gotten reference sheets with more dick angles than facial expressions, and this was for a SFW commission.) It tends to be pretty jarring. It's why when the reference sheet was first bought up, people's minds naturally went about that angle since it's such a thing with furry-related anything before it turned out that was a (rare) innocuous example among that crowd.

I'd pull up some examples, but it's a bit off-topic and also nauseating.

I've seen enough of those furry ref. sheets to noticed that trend. I'm sure some really get off on knowing that stuff but it comes off unnecessary overall.

Oh, okey. I can explain that too or at least give a theoris. I’m not furry but I have had some art friends that are and what I have observed it’s probably one of few explanations.

But before that, it’s good to remember that furry artists tend to be on younger side. Most furries are teen to early twenties, it’s something that most but not all grow out off. Because of their age many furry artists’ main art influences are from children’s media with has great deal of animals as humans characters and many people get more serious about drawing by doing fan art. Plus drawing styled animals allows avoid hard to draw things like hands. Many furry artists even the ones that are pretty darn good, aren’t very experienced and are looking for tools to improve and/or impress. So this leads to junk refrences becouse...

a) They think that’s how professional/real artists do refrence sheets.

Most artists don’t show their reference sheets because they are more often than not kind of ugly mess. Bearly above sketches and sometimes even uncomprehensible to others. Generally you don’t want to waiste more time or details than you need, after all they are picture version of remainder notes. Refrence sheets are ment be functional tool to make art, not art themselves. So the furry kids end up seeing mostly the overly nice done and very detail rich “reference” sheets that are actually are portfolio pieces, promotion materials or porn.

b) They really want do good refence sheets

So this group gets that reference sheets are a tool but are very unsure how much detail they should have and decide to play it safe. These tend be good girl type. Every detail is always drawn and as nicely as possible. Unlike the above group they don’t think the junk is sign of master artists but are nervous that if they leave private parts out, it will come bite them in the arse. These people eather burn out from doing reference sheets or have to learn that less is often more.

c) They just want draw naughty bits

Nothing too complicated here, some people get kicks from drawing dicks. They might or not be that interested doing actual porn but they like taking advantage of reasonable excuse of reference sheet to do camel toes, mellons, goose eggs and bananas. Rebellion, breaking taboos, humor, turn on, social media attention... Reference sheets are opportunity for that.

I think you might be reading a little too much into this this. Pretty sure the only reason someone makes a reference that lets you know their wolf character is uncircumcised is for point C.

Counter Point: Barks didn't draw Donald's 9-inch corkscrew penis.

If you want to get even more money, you could always post controversial comics!

Olive Brinker / raethedoe have potential for a thread

I won’t sperg about it but these comics wind up on my feed fairly often and I really don’t see the big deal. The jokes aren’t funny, the art’s not very charming (even simple styles can be appealing), and all of their opinion comics are nothing that hasn’t been rehashed by a thousand other tumblr users. If anyone goes digging and finds enough dirt to make a thread, I’ll gladly watch that.
