Otherkin / Fictionkin / Therians - Weirdos LARPing as animals, mythological creatures, and fictional characters

OK, RE: Plutokin dude/chick:

What the fuck are "nan0boy" "aporagender", and "nomaromantic ceterosexual"? Seriously, what the fuck does this shit even mean!?

EDIT: I googled "ceterosexual" and "aporagender" and the top result or two was tumblr, LMAO.

Think back to how you thought and acted when you were 13 or 14. If it doesn't give you the cringe-shivers, I'd wager that you're either lying or you have a crap memory. We all went through that stage, whether we admit it or not. The difference for us old-timers is that we came of age before social media was really a thing, so none of our teenage babbling is preserved online, and I thank the Elder Gods every day for it.

But yeah, cut the teenyboppers some slack. If they haven't grown out of this by, say, 17 years old or so, then they've got the trimmings of a lolcow.
Agreed to an extent.

I cringe like crazy when I look at myself in middle school, but I never claimed I was ~*literally a dragon u guise*~ or whatever the fuck these people say. I wrote shitty self-insert fanfic and was LOLRANDUM as fuck, and unfortunately my middle school bullshit is preserved online (though fortunately Tumblr wasn't a thing back then), but I wasn't outright delusional like these people.

That said, I think young teens are a bit too easy as targets--you're definitely right that most of 'em will probably grow out of it, and then look back when they're older and think, "wow, I was embarrassing as shit." But I would definitely count buying into the whole otherkin bullshit as a red flag, honestly.

Ravenpaw from Warriors, wolfkin

Fyi Ravenpaw is a cat. And according to this person he's a wolf... I can think of at least ten good reasons why that alone amounts to heaps of fail.

Just because some taxonomist coercively assigned their species as a cat doesn't mean that they've got a cat's soul on the inside. Whoever told you guys someone's fictional cat headmate (which I can't stress enough is also made up) can't be a wolfkin is a problematic shitlord. Like the commander always said, press 1 to respect wolfkin, gamers.

There used to be a freewebs site called 'growing wings for life', where otherkin thought they could actually shift and people spoke often about how they had totally forreal shifted but they couldn't tell you how!

I think the site is down, but I have some screencaps of the lulziest.

I miss when otherkin tried to convince people they could physically change their form instead of just pretending to be their kintype in front of people and calling it shifting.

It's like they've gotten less crazy but at the same time still more crazy.

It seems the ones that did that from "back in the day" are more stable now. Like they're still crazy, but just like, Dale Gribble crazy.

Thinking back to it, I was "program-kin" (A la The Matrix) back in Grade 9. That was ages ago and looking back on it, it was amazingly fucking stupid. I had such a hardon for the Matrix movies back then. I wanted it to be real. I thought I'd be The One but then I "realized" that because I didn't self-substantiate or end up summoning Agents/Zion resistance hackers by virtue of believing (Because that's what the movies taught me) that I mustn't be a high value target, and thus must be an exhiled Program of some sort because I figured they'd come for me if I was on the verge of knowing the truth as a bluepill.

It would be adorable if it wasn't so fucking dumb. But I was always a cishet white patriarchy propagating bastard, as left/centre as I am, and I can at least have the pride in me that I didn't come up with ridiculous fucking pronouns.

You know, this is something I cannot wrap my head around.

I mean, with a lot of otherkin, they at least identify as sentient beings. Wolves, dragons, trolls, shit like that. It's stupid as fuck, but I can almost understand how it'd work, at least in theory. But I'm pretty goddamn sure that a huge chunk of rock floating in outer space is incapable of sentient thought, or really anything other than being a huge chunk of rock and looking pretty. It's like identifying as a soda can, which, come to think of it, some asshole on Tumblr probably does.

I don't have a tumblr but I used to browse a website called ExperienceProject and there was no shortage of users in the 13-15 age demographic proclaiming to be otherkin, werewolves, seeking advice on how to ''P-shift''.

As it turns out it is a clinically recognized disorder (which could also apply to other forms of ''otherkin''):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_lycanthropy
I blame Twilight.

''Otherkin'' fits right in with those who believe they are ''Indigo Children''.
