"Christianity is evil and bigoted... unless I can use it to own BLUMPFFT epic style!"

I'll admit I'm a little salty about it too, but as you said it's just one more step in this stupid little dance they're doing. No reason to go to pieces over it and start crying and rending your garments like a Democrat.

It's basically setting the argument back to square one, except federal workers can get paid now.

This is showcasing that the Democrats are completely unwilling to make any compromises. I wouldn't be shocked if another shutdown happens in three weeks.

Apparently a lot of these downtrodden conservatives only listened to the first part of Trump's Rosegarden speech. The last part of his statement did not sound like he was planning to cave in and give up on the wall at all. He has plenty of options to tackle this before anyone can call this "over."

The wall is happening for sure, its just a question how it will happen.

Honestly, I simply view this as "political peacocking" (as is the case with most if not all government shutdowns, lol). The Dems are trying as they might to prevent the wall from being built before 2020.

I'm not saying that the Democrats will be unsuccessful, but to me, this does read as a "do or die" moment for the Democrats.

Upon thinking it over, this is probably the best way for Trump to still get what he wants and make sure most of the onus for being an asshole who ground the government to a halt sticks to Pelosi and not himself.

Had this gone on too much longer, pretty sure both sides would have looked utterly unreasonable, while to this point Trump was able to mostly making Pelosi look like the jackass here (especially with that whole thing where he prevented her from that plane ride on the government dime), time was starting to run out unless Pelosi was gonna hand him another gaffe to make her look bad with, and he would have needed something worse than the last one.

Since he didn't have that, he picked the best alternative, which was to say he's all for the government reopening so people can get paid again, but the issue has not been laid to rest, and if she won't play ball in a few weeks, he's just gonna end run around her anyway lest the government grind to a halt again.

The whole point of this incident was to showcase how the Democrats are the utterly unreasonable assholes unwilling to compromise out of sheer spite, which was achieved. Dragging this out further negates any advantage in proving that.

Pretty much exactly this. He made it so that either the wall gets funded, plus the Democrats get some things they want too, but they have to compromise, or the wall gets funded and the Democrats get nothing. Pelosi has made her choice clear, and now once he declares the border an emergency, Trump gets to run on "the wall is being built as we speak," as well as "the Democrats are unwilling to compromise, even when it benefits them."

Trump just lost 2020, this was his Waterloo: He blinked

Maybe! Now he's got until the end of February to get this into play. If by then he does not get that first brick ordered, then that might be a sign that he's forfeited 2020, and was never sincere about the values he's espoused.

To see a liberal regime come into power in 2020 would guarantee that the US follows Europe down the drain. I think that that eventuality is probably inevitable anyway, but a Trump presidency at least provides some veneer of hope that this fight isn't over yet.

it depends on whether he gets his wall or not.
if he actually allows nancy to cuck him out of his #1 campaign promise then yeah, he's finished.

also i'm still wondering why he waited so long with this. two years of a republican house, two years that he could have used to fund his wall. why didn't he do it?
This is something I'd also like to know. Pretty much the same exact thing Obama did, where he had the supermajority, but didn't try to push through obamacare until after the repubs took over. Then once the opposition party was in, demand stuff they won't give you, or you veto the budget.

I really don't get it.
