Speaking of OOT I recently watched through
I must ask is he always such an jerk to Dan? I haven't really seen Game Grumps since Jontron left. The only reason I'm watching some TIHYDPs is because of this thread. So, I don't know much about Dan but he seems like a nice guy. I felt bad for him and some parts of this just felt uncomfortable to listen to.
the gaymer from mars mentioned that he would often treat jontron as a subordinate and would lord over the fact that jon was a fan of him before making it big, Arin is a great example of an autist who has trouble with people becoming famous and his antisocial behaviors only manifesting, i am to lazy and ambivalent to find the clip of Chris O'neil talking about the first time he met egoraptor on sleepy cabin, I remember that he described him as being awkward, as in he would often blurt out bizarre or inappropriate remarks and was pretty spastic, but this was when he was in his early 20s. So he probably has some socialization issue that he never grew out of, i think it is common for only children who spend their time alone in the dark to never get basic social ques like be respectful or what is appropriate to say in a situation.

another thing that bugs me is how very defense the fanbase gets over when people try to offer legit constructive criticism about Arin's attitude and approach to games.

The second you bring up stupid shit Arin's done around the core fanbase you get called a hater or a troll or you get told "Oh my god it's just a game grumps video stop taking it so seriously!". I can't tell of the fans are mostly children or autistic manchildren or both. They cannot handle even the slightest amount of criticism

I would say they are indeed both.

Its the people who think loud noise and poop jokes = funny.

The 'best' comeback is always the 'It's just an act!' response; even though there have been a couple of occasions where Arin himself admits he wasn't putting on a show (namely, the 'Goddamnit Ross! incident with that one fan and the one he claimed he lost his cool with after said fan send him a 'mean email').

But, of course, to those rabid fans, Arin was totally justified in those incidents because it's that girl's fault she wasn't up to date on the fact that the 'Ross' meme was dead (despite the fact that not all fans keep tabs on everything Grumps related) and Arin was just being a good friend by defending Ross (never mind Ross wasn't offended - so didn't need any defending - and called BS on Arin's behavior on live streams- considering he and Dan had been using the 'Goddamnit Ross' meme for years; even profiting off of it before they finally dropped it). And Arin would never lie/exaggerate about an email a 'rude' fan sent him (even though he never mentions what was said in that email, or even share the email to confirm it was as bad as he claimed to warrant an outburst. Nope - Arin said it was cruel, so it was just that - no proof required).

The more rabid fanbase will literally buy anything Arin spews - and he damned well knows it (he'd have to be just as dimwitted as they are if he hasn't caught on to this fact by this point in his Youtube career).

That's such a lame cop-out, I don't think even DSP has used that excuse. At least Phil is entertainingly incompetent, Arin's just low-energy and stupid. And he tries to frame himself as an authority on how video games should be.

Arin's got an older brother named Nate who is a pilot. Nate is three years older to the day.

This the one you talking about?

the play though of oot dispelled any notion of that exceptional individual knowing about oot

Oof, looks like I buried that due to that playthrough, it was so frustrating...at least Windwaker was subjectively funny.

Holy hell, did I stop watching them earlier than I said I did? When I was a daily watcher, Arin never acted like an ass toward Dan (or anyone else for that matter)...I don't even recall them going any further than hot bants, though my memory is shit, so feel free to share instances.

Now that I think on it, it wasn't Arin that drew me in, it was Jon/Danny.
It looks like I'll need to read everything IIT before posting again.

i really like the art style for those pins, tbh i think its a better look for the grump heads in general

Both sets are equally hideous; especially considering the prices they're charging for them. But, if I had a gun to my head and had to chose one over the other, I'd take the previous batch - as the first set reflects what the Grumps' favorite things are (Dan loves unicorns and stegasaurus while Arin loves his anime crap).

These new pins, though? I don't know. Just think it's weird selling Valentines themed items of two guys who are already spoken for. Why paint the illusion that either guy is single and want to be your Valentine, you know?

Arin sounds like he legitimately knows more about game development than his Grump persona leads you to believe.
Plus, he gives legitimate criticism while still cracking a few jokes.

I do see that you've kinda wised up to it in a later post after having watched the OoT TIHYDP, but as OP and others before me have pointed out, alot of Arin's 'points' is him just criticizing 3D for lacking the 'easy overhead sight' of the 2D games by biased nature and tries to mask his poor analysis points with his humor.

But to give my own 2 cents on this video and thus prompt a 'Powerlevel' rating on this post:

So I actually sat down and put myself to rewatch the entirety of this video and from what I gather of this in summary:

- He thinks ALttP lacks the exploration depth the first Zelda has because it gives you directions and a preferred sequenced order of dungeons to do, probably not accounting for the fact that NES Zelda was cryptic as shit due to limited hardware/poor translation being the gambit at the time and the SNES game did this wisely so not to frustrate people into wandering around aimlessly and make it actually cohesive to play without a guide preventing stress.

- He thinks Z-targeting is 'complex and adds a strange disconnect' and that both camera angles don't mix. He misses the mark entirely on how Z-targeting was implemented so you won't lose track of a enemy's movement, strafe around it and actually land your blows in consistently in a 3D space until said enemy is defeated, and you can easily either click out of it or release Z to exit it.

- Arin rants how enemies just 'wait and do nothing', which is clearly enemies with attack and defense patterns implemented in their behavior, and all of his examples are easy to discern and dispatch quickly, to give a few examples: Deku Scrubs? They retreat by close proximity so hit with a projectile or bounce seed back. Stalfos? Backflip from their jumpslash and counter with your own. Lizalfos? Jab, shield their counter, jab, repeat. Big Skulltula's? Wait 2 seconds for their backsides to be revealed. Wolfos: Step back from their claw swipes and insta-kill them by stabbing in their exposed backs.

This is basic enemy behavior pattern 101 you see in the likes of your 2D favorites like Mega Man's Mettaurs or Sniper Joe's, Arin. You just lack the patience to learn patterns or bother putting up a shield for some of these enemy counters.

- Complains that searching in a room for a switch to hit to open a door 'breaks the movement and immersion and that doesn't qualify for fun'. That's the whole advantage of 3D, that with actual objects in a space the designers could create more elaborate places like these to hide switches in, rather than out in the open.

- Claims getting sidewinked by a sliding/rotating spike hazard you can't see is bad design when the game gives you plenty opportunity upon entering to see it's pattern and keep it's trajectory in mind. This is entirely to blame on his tunnel vision.

- And then finally he bitches about the waiting with talking to people, opening chests, locked out of area's for mandatory gate item reasons etc. takes so long in OoT when it's there for suspense and immersion, and again, it was their first shot at 3D and this extra space allowed the series to take a more cinematic approach to it's world. The only part I will agree with Arin on is that there are some long unnecessary story scenes that just reiterate the same point especially early on with 'Ganon is evil' and 'how the gods created Hyrule'.

Arin is the definition of 'talk the talk, but can't walk the walk'. He claims he can point out critical flaws to game design where mostly none exist, and when the time came for him to prove his worth, he failed spectacularly, requiring a walkthrough for a game he claims he beat multiple times. This makes his arrogance all the more delicious to mock.

By the way, glad to have you enlightened about his true colors and I agree that the Wind Waker LP wasn't that bad, but by god the times they spent just dicking around talking about random stuff when the game clearly gave Arin a objective like delivering a letter in Dragon Roost Island was just agonizing.

So basically "don't give me any directions" and then "what the fuck I can't instantly find a switch this is bullshit"?

It's so pathetic how he sucks and he's trying really hard to find reasons to rant. A common problem with early 3D games was depth, such as Castlevania 64's platforming, so a lock-on system was a nice thought. Also he isn't even forced to use Z-targeting so what is he bitching about?

Also what the fuck did he really rant about chests being too long to open? How about he shows some patience while the game tries to add some suspense on what you're going to find inside? Does he actually enjoy video games? I don't remember who said or when in this 40 pages thread but "he's like this kid who wanted to play video games for a living and now that he is actually doing it, he hates it".

This Vernon guy, based on what I've been reading, may just be the Mike Michaud of Game Grumps.

Here's what we know about him, with links and everything:
These are verifiable facts. These next two are based on talk from /r/rantgrumps, the subreddit anyone can talk and gossip about Grumps without risk of getting pegged by a mod. Take all these with a grain of salt.

I've also read that the Grumps basically sell anything Vernon makes as their own, regardless if it's related to Grumps (a). It's not out of the question that Vernon just sees Grumps as a giant cash-cow to piggyback his otherwise mediocre ideas on. Whew, lad!

If ya'll want to do further investigating on this guy, I encourage it. He seems like quite the negative influence on the show.

I made an account to comment specifically on Vernon, but it's nothing related to the show. Hope that's cool.

A few years back, I went to a Game Grumps Live show with a friend of mine. During the show, Ross and Vernon were running around the theater talking to people, picking volunteers to go up on stage, etc, and my friend and I had a short encounter with Vernon. Mostly just saying hi. She commented on the band shirt he was wearing.

Unknown to her, later that night on Twitter, Vernon made a post saying that he had met some beautiful girl and talked to her about whatever band and was attempting to find her. Friend didn't have a Twitter, someone else showed her the post after she had talked about the show. Sure enough it was her that he was talking about.

I think they talked for a short while, but then he sort of dipped on her. She laughs about it and seems to think pretty kindly of him but to me it seemed sort of sketchy, you know? This big Youtuber calls you the most beautiful girl in the world, asks for your Snapchat, then ghosts you? I don't know all the details about how much they talked, but to me once she told me he had just disappeared it rubbed me the wrong way. We live across the country, it's not like anything was going to come of it to begin with. Just seemed like a weird play to get a pretty girl's nudes because you're a popular Youtuber from a channel she likes.
