Horrorcow Susan Schofield Cabana, Cory Cabana, & Michael Schofield / Schofield Productions / @bipolarnation - A Tragicomic Tale of Psychiatric Munchausen's by Proxy

Sorry, US Kiwis - you need to help out the dumb Brit again...

How the in the name of holy fuck can Susan get Medi-Cal when a) the kids are fully insured through Michael and b) they have the option with Creepy's car-washing bumwork AND a hefty hangout to support themselves?

I thought these services were only for those who can't access private healthcare but how the hell can Susan get it just because she doesn't want to use Michael's provision? Tough fucking titty!

I know that those who abuse services are the pro's at squeezing shit they're not entitled to out of said services. I thought the apex of crazy was her being paid $50k+ p/a to look after her own kids whilst being showered with support aides but this Medi-cal thing is just insane. Is it a loophole? Or did the powers-that-be not even consider anyone with a decent plan already in place would sign up for it? To me, that's just outright abuse of the system and I can't understand how it's allowed.

On that note, if Michael demanded it could a judge specify she has to abide by the private insurance, regardless of whether she "likes" UCLA? It just seems so, so wrong that she can blatantly, openly squeeze the system and that system allows her to. Mutter grumble mad on the internet etc.

Ps. Does she have to pay all those respite workers out of the money that's seemingly thrown at her, or are they provided free too? That may sound ridiculous but here (in some cases) people pay for services from the funds given. It's up to them to manage it.

Tiny Clanger, many spec need kids even with working parents get state aid. The way it works is the parent's insurance is considered the primary...any co-pays are covered by the state aid. So parent private pays first then the state picks up any slack. Depending on the state and severity of the handicap the state may pay for some respite care. Normally this is given to parents of kids who are immobile or extremely mentally impaired.

This video about mental health malingering makes me think of Susie.

He talks about schizophrenia briefly around 6:43 and at 8:30 discusses how you can look for malingering. It's in context for the person malingering and not manipulating someone else to do so, but it's still interesting.

This^^ Medicaid plans (vary in name from state-to-state) are considered "payors of last resort." Michael's insurance will be billed primarily, so if Susan goes to a place where that isn't accepted, MediCal will activate. Qualifying for Medicaid is based primarily on income, which again varies state-to-state. Kids in foster care (even if their foster parents are very, very wealthy) are also included. Medicare is more common for the disabled, but usually the profoundly disabled qualify for both Medicare (disability & inability to work) AND Medicaid (lack of income). I've never even heard of "respite" prior to following Susan and Michael, so I'd guess this also varies state-to-state. I'd wager Susan's not paying for it though.

Addition: Like everyone, I agree that Michael's a vain ass for going to VT to get his motherfucking artist (MFA) degree. But also want to point out it's highly unlikely that he's paying that 25k out-of-pocket. He's probably getting the student loans which the Federal government makes it very, very easy to qualify for. You basically need a pulse and proof of enrollment, and they'll "give" you all the monies for tuition & educational expenses. Just because he's spending 25k on school (via the Dept of Education's loans) doesn't mean he'd have the 25k accessible to spend on his kids if he wasn't getting that useless MFA.

Correct. And even middle class families who might get a $2 SSID check are still covered by the state aid. Respite is often paid to family members who help care for the disabled one ( generally such a small amount you could not hire outside the family to do the care) Respite has been around a looooong time, but is rarely mentioned because few people take advange of it. However SS does pay for skilled care (nursing/nurses aid) for severely disabled... but that is paid only to perform tasks beyoing the skill level of a lay person/family member.

Hi, I've been following this thread for a while.
Honestly, I'm pissed off this is happening with this children.
Susan is ill? Yes! Big time!
The children are severely and for ever damaged? totally.

I came here because I've watched Born Schizo 1 and 2, years ago and I thought "ok, this kids have a problem", but a few weeks ago I was like "what happened to them?" and of course I've found The problem with the Schofields video and it led me here. After that I watched all videos in Susan's youtube and everything.

But like I still can't believe there are people in power that it's letting this continue.

First off, I believe Jani was misdiagnosed. It can happen, happens all the time and not only with children.
Bodhi has always been clearly autistic (and probably Jani too) but they don't need all those medication, Lithium? damn that shit is toxic, and not talking about the other medication.

If Mike gets the kids will they get better? sometimes, thinking positively I believe yes, but even when I've seen interviews where he says he wants to take custody, I can't believe him 100%, specially not in the state the kids are right now.

I read the new aditions to this topic every day, and will continue of course, cause this thing makes me pissed for those two children, I hope that bitch (and that creep of a husband) end up in jail ...soon, hopefully.

Just wanted to rant and kinda participate, thanks for reading

Cory (or Susan?) just posted these comments:

I do love when KF starts living rent free in the cow’s head. Cory and Suzy are starting to see KF posters behind every YT comment and criticism now.

The fact they are mentioning KF will drive a lot more people to read this thread too.

Win win

About medi-cal coverage
@Tiny Clanger its not just you who can figure out how Susan can get medi-cal coverage with their incomes @HyggeandHof seems to understand the process but it has everything with the kids being labeled as disabled. The Medicaid program in the USA is a clustfuck of epic proportions.
One thing that dropping Cory’s insurance means is that neither Susan or Cory have any health coverage. So if something happens to either of them they will have a bankruptcy added to their shit show. Letting their insurance drop just to get more out of Cory’s skimpy paycheck just shows what irresponsible shady fucks they both are. (I had actually assumed Cory worked simply to provide insurance coverage for them, but no Susan complete inability to manage money has left them scrambling for every nickel)

I could pull out all my rainbow ratings and hope that of Bodhi is allowed to continue off meds, that the Cabanas move him into Jani's room, so Bodhi can finally not be privy to their marital relations.

They could rent a 2 bedroom and give each kid their own room (when Jani moves out, they could take over her room) If they get a sofa bed or futon so they can convert it into a couch during the day, that's even better; but at least if the kids have their own space, it's better than what they have now. Cost in their complex is $2,741 per month. If they cut out the bagel place and Dennys and Pizza Kitchen and ate out of their own kitchen, I bet Susie could find the extra money for rent.

Just a few thoughts/questions:

Do you guys think Susan was pushed to get the BMW by Cory? I ask because she doesn't seem to give much of a shit about status symbols and his comment about how it was a really good deal from his work or whatever. I'm shocked that anyone would walk into a loan place and sign up for paying $55,000+ to loan less than $10,000 to buy a fancy car when they freely show the world they sleep on floor mattresses in a rented apartment with absolutely nothing aesthetic or stylish in it. Not that Susan employs logic or understands long term consequence.

Secondly, I'm disturbed as fuck by her taking off in the middle of the night and leaving Jani drugged and alone with the creep, although I find Cory touching and bathing (and punishing while bathing) Bodhi much, much more creepy.

Thirdly, in that screenshot with the disgusting cum stained mattress I couldn't help but notice that the stains were directly facing the other mattress. Gross enough to have sex in the same room as your kid but really sick to do it as close as possible, or perhaps Cory just likes to jerk off in his direction.:cryblood:

Susan is completely fucked and horrible but I actually hate Cory more, and while she can blame no one but herself for decisions she has made about her children, she's obviously mentally ill while he is a straight up aggressive, abusive predator. He has absolutely zero empathy, none. Those recent comments about how beautifully he slept while he was drugged out of consciousness every night for a year and a half really, really bothered me.

I'm leaning towards Cory being a total psychopath. He reminds me of an uglier and grosser Dirty John, except instead of finding a wealthy woman, he found a woman who gets above average amounts of government money. It was probably the best he could do considering his looks and personality, but I bet he was fishing online for rich ladies.

The way he plays up and exaggerates his military service is yet another red flag- it's almost at the point of being one of those "stolen valor" losers. I bet he's experimented with wearing military uniform around trying to get free stuff.

Have we ever seen Susan in a depressive state? Because I've only ever seen her in a perpetual state of mania. A lot of her money issues like spending money on frivolous crap, like going out to eat for every meal and the BMW, are directly related to her mania. It's a common issue for people with bipolar and it gets them into some deep trouble. Another part of mania that Susan has is the feeling of being invincible. Which would be an explanation why she stupidly ignores DCF when they tell her to stop filming. She doesn't actually grasp the fact that there are going to be negative consequences for outright ignoring DCF. She thinks she can get away with anything.

In regards to sending Bodhi to school during his withdrawal, if we were to give good old Susie the benefit of the doubt, it's possible that she may have no choice. DCF typically doesn't get involved with the school and IEPs unless there's truancy issues or possible cases of educational neglect. In the state of California, if a child has 3 unexcused absences, they are considered truant. Combined with the fact that Jani didn't go to school for years and is extremely behind, it's possible that this is something else DCF is trying to nail her for. However, I don't really think Susan cares about that. I think she cares more about getting a "break" from being an actual parent. It's possible she tried to hide the fact that Bodhi is withdrawing and immuno-compromised because if the school knew, they would send him home and she wouldn't get her "break". Even with the school knowing about the withdrawal and the reason for Bodhi being absent, they have no choice but to report his unexcused attendance issues to the state, regardless of the reason. However, Susan could easily fix this because with attendance issues for medical reasons, you can easily get absences excused if you bring in a doctor's note. She's likely too dumb or doesn't care enough to do that, so Bodhi suffers again.

I'm terrified for Bodhi's safety once the medwash is over. Do we know what kind of language the doctor used when telling her to keep him clean of all medication for 2 weeks? If she was told to keep him off meds for 2 weeks until they see a psychiatrist, then she has no choice but to listen. If she was told no medication for 2 weeks, I can see her giving Bodhi all of his medication once the 14th day hits. She will probably give him higher than his actual dosages to "make up" for the ones she's missed. There's a reason when you're prescribed those types of medication that they build the dosage up and don't start you out at a high level. They can really screw with your body. Which we know happened to Bodhi since his white blood cell count was dangerously low. With these meds, your body has to build up a tolerance to it. If you suddenly stop, you have withdrawal, if you suddenly start, you run the risk of overdosing. Bodhi's body won't have the same level of tolerance that it did previously and it's possible that if Susan gives him the outrageous dosages he was taking (maybe with a little bit extra), Bodhi will die. I'm sure that psych meds are different, but in the case of illicit substances, the same thing happens. People stop taking the drug and lose the tolerance to it. When they go to take it again at the same level they were taking it at before, it's toxic to them and they overdose, which can easily lead to death.

To somewhat expand on the original question, Michael's insurance only covers the kids at UCLA, hence why Susan is avoiding it, but is there anything (legally) stopping Michael from taking them to the ER (or urgent care, or something, don't know other US terms) at UCLA if/when he visits and does have legitimate immediate concerns?

Nope, but he needs to be very careful not to play into her game. Right now he’s presenting himself as the sane one to DCFS, and he has the ability to schedule appointments during his visitation if it will further their/his case, but he shouldn’t just start bringing them to doctors willynilly for fear of getting that MBP label on himself.

They could move to parts of Simi Valley, the far west Valley, east past San Gabriel towards Pomona or literally anywhere in the Antelope Valley and rent a goddamned house or a 2-3 bedroom apartment for around as much as they pay for that one bedroom, maybe $1800ish.

I've lost count of how many people have come here or in the Schofield Productions YT comments saying something similar, that they'd read the LA Times piece 10 years ago, seen the TV shows, etc. and just kind of took it at face value at the time, and then later something "clicked" that made them curious enough to find out the status of these children today. The same thing happened with me, a little less than a year ago, which led me to this thread. I can't even recall what exactly it was that put the idea in my head:'What if that kid was never actually schizophrenic at all?'. It's really amazing that the story stuck with so many of us in the same way, it makes me wonder if on some level even those of us who took it at face value at the time could sense something not-quite-right about it all.

I remember there being a significant amount of criticism at the time also, mainly directed at Michael for his admissions of abuse on his blog. Even in those early days people were raising the possibility that Jani had behavioural issues from abuse, rather than schizophrenia. I unfortunately don’t remember where the bulk of the criticism was being made - possibly Livejournal? If any other Kiwis also remember this it’d be interesting to see what is archived.

I agree partly. I think he's a socio more likely though, or at the least is just a big dumb idiot with socio tendencies, as a psychopath probably wouldn't allow Susan to leave so many blatantly obvious pieces of MBP evidence everywhere, psychopaths are a lot more 'clean' when it comes to their dirty deeds.
