Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

I wondered to myself how conservative outlets will handle this story. Would they approach with caution, just in case things turn around?

LOL nope.

Also that headline is pretty much correct, the king of race baiting himself basically threw Smollett under the bus. Support is fading faster than Smollett's career.

So far this year we've had:

1) White person responsible for a drive-by
2) High school kids destroying an Indian with smirks
3) MAGApedes with bleach roaming frozen hellscapes at night

2019 is off to a wonderful start. I'm sure we'd all like to think that the media would learn from this and do some research, but realistically they're just going to be even more thirsty for the next story that seems to fit their narrative. I'd like to think we could begin to predict what will happen next, but if two months ago you told me that any of these had happened, I wouldn't have believed you.
Have you ever been running late for something, so you hurry up but in your haste you fuck something up and end up being even more late as a result? That's basically what the situation is right now with the media. They rushed to judgement with the Covington case, and when that blew up in their face they went looking for a story that would vindicate them instead of doing the reasonable thing and issuing apologies/retractions. The more that they get proved wrong, the more desperate they're going to be to find a story that finally proves them right so they can finally shut up all those nasty "alt-righters." Now that they've been blown the fuck out by the Smollett incident, they are going to be scrambling to sweep this under the rug and replace it with a new story.

So the 'victim' of a hate crime now has a crisis management PR team and a high-powered law firm to represent him. Hilarious.

What is the realistic outcome of this case? Is there any good precedent of a public figure (using the term loosely) getting caught red handed in a hate crime hoax? I have a hard time believing he'll get something besides probation unless the Feds decide to make an example of him over the fake anthrax letter.

Out of everything going on in this case, I think the thing that bothers me most is that a grown man willingly calls himself Jussie. *TRIGGERED*

Still not as bad as his sister's name "Jurnee".

This just makes me hope that some media blitz even more hilarious will go off even more half-cocked this week.

It's why they have a hate boner for Trump, every story they blew up about him that turned out to be not true? Instead of admitting they fucked up through gross incompetence/bias, they just go twice as hard on the next one, sure that when it turns out to be true, everyone will vindicate them at last. Except, for the same reasons as last time, they fuck up the story that's supposed to "save" them and look like even bigger fools and then triple-down that the NEXT one will save them.... cursing Drumpf's name all the while....

Hell, the Covington case was arguably the 35th double-down since the election after two years of everything they reported on prematurely from Russia to golden showers caught on tape failing to vet.

As George Santayana once said -

“Fanaticism consists of redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.”

Or, to put it another way, the reason we laugh at Wile E Coyote for failing to catch the Roadrunner is because he, by his own shortsightedness and ego, not necessity, keeps trying even if it should be obvious that fate will never let him succeed. If he was actually hungry, it'd be pretty sad to see him fail time and time agian... but nothing indicates that he NEEDS to catch the bird for any reason other than to prove he can at this point. Same with the media howling about their lack of respect and the imminent threat Trump is to the First Amendment, as they blow a million bucks on a Super Bowl ad while the public ignores them and another 10,000 get pink slips..... if they'd just stop trying to "GET" him because their narrative says he must be got SOMEHOW, they wouldn't be in this mess..... you almost wonder why you haven't seen Jim Acosta trying to plant a large plate of "FREE BIRDSEED" in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Yeah, the covington debacle really highlighted this.

So many "respectable" media and political people went full psycho in demanding the literal blood of children because of a two second clip of a kid smirking, then when the full video came out utterly exonerating the kids they simply doubled down either trying to claim that smiling in public /laughing at a hate group screaming racist and homophobic slurs at them was a white supremacist act, or desperately trying to hunt down anything they could find vaguely related to the kids they could use to "prove" the full video magically didnt matter and the kids still deserved all the abuse that had been hurled at them, which is when we saw the use of the 2011 blackout basketball photo, the testimony of a faggot student who was once in a school near the kids, and most amusingly another edited 2 second clip of some random kids making a rape joke of which the full video was swiftly released which showed the covington kids loudly denouncing the guy who made the joke. All of which were used to try and prop up the narrative that every sane person could see was utterly broken and yet these idiots still tried their hardest.

All these hugely followed blue checkmarked mainstream media employed/affiliated people were doing this shit for weeks and only stopped once talk of lawsuits started happening and the smollett debacle came along to allow them to change the subject and forget about their humiliation.

Also speaking of covington, allow me to share a recent gif of Nathan Phillips doing his best Count Orlok impression when confronted with a camera and awkward questions

I honestly cant name any real non black on white hatecrime in the US since trump got into office. the closest one is the pulse shooting, but the progressive stack dictates the self hating gay muslim that shot up the place, was oppressed and thus it cannot be classified as a hatecrime.
There was also the Portland train attack guy, but that dude was a Bernie supporter, and he was only verbally harassing black and Muslim women. The people he stabbed were a white guy and I think an Asian man who confronted him about it.

When the dude who never apologized or even admitted the Tawana Brawley white gang rape hoax was complete bullshit drops you, you're finished.

If anything, that story showed that not only aren't most white Americans hateful, but white (and Asian) people will even confront someone who is being a racist in public, even when they're potentially dangerous.

Nobody is interested in hearing that story, though.

Brothers questioned in Jussie Smollett case break silence
By Steve Frank

Updated on: February 18, 2019 / 4:34 PM / CBS News

Two Nigerian brothers questioned by Chicago police in connection with a reported attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett are breaking their silence. Ola and Abel Osundairo went from persons of interest in the case to potential suspects to being released without charges.

CBS Chicago spoke with the Osundairo brothers Monday afternoon. In a joint statement, they said: "We are not racist. We are not homophobic and we are not anti-Trump. We were born and raised in Chicago and are American citizens."

Smollett, who is black and gay, has said he was assaulted on January 29 by two men shouting racial and homophobic slurs. He told police they shouted "This is MAGA country!"

Police said the Osundairo brothers were captured on surveillance video at the time that Smollett said he was attacked. Ola Osundairo is connected to Smollett through the hit show "Empire" where he played a prisoner in season two.

Both brothers apparently left Chicago on the day of the alleged attack and were detained when they returned Wednesday. Chicago detectives tore through their apartment looking for clues, and an evidence log shows they found ropes, masks and bleach. They were released Friday night without charges.
A source close to the investigation told CBS News that the brothers told detectives Smollett paid them to participate in the attack. The brothers said they bought rope that was found around Smollett's neck at a nearby hardware store. A raid of their home turned up ropes, masks and bleach.

The Chicago Police Department released a statement Saturday night saying information from the brothers had "shifted the trajectory of the investigation."

"We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation. We've reached out to the Empire cast member's attorney to request a follow-up interview," the statement read.

Smollett's attorneys, Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, issued a statement late Saturday saying Smollett was "angered and devastated" by reports that he knew the people associated with the alleged attack.

It’s a spiral: the media falls for a hate hoax so in order to save face, they zealously find something that fits their narrative but since this isn’t Mississippi Burning, they fall for the next hate hoax. Rinse and repeat.
