I updated this archive cuz people were glossing over this bit due to the double fic thing, but Glip here is admitting they use kink to cope with traumatic experiences.

I decided to look a bit deeper into the claim that Pengo's bridge characters were the inspiration for Andre.

For those who don't want to look through links, the result is no, Andre seems to have shown up before the bridges were posted online. However there is another character Pengo posted during the time they knew Glip, and in fact Glip seems to have been heavily inspired by Pengo's old game demo Wreck.

I'm unable to archive any of these links currently, so anyone who can, please do so.

I feel with most of the media involving the Bridge characters coming after Andre was revealed, the only way Glip could have based him off of them would be if Glip had an inside scoop on what Pengo was doing and decided to steal his characters before he even posted them. Honestly, it doesn't seem likely, if only because Glip likes to make it obvious when they are trying to kick down someone they don't like (point in case being sending Pengo $100 and listing a Bravocat song title next to a rip off of his sona.)

However... I do think there is a design that is more likely to have inspired Andre.

I know people have made posts about this earlier in the thread but I could not find them while writing this, so if anyone has anything to add that would be appreciated.

Wreck was a game demo Pengo had released around the time he knew Glip. This was still during the time that Glip was mainly drawing Pokémon, and right before Glip's style began to change. Glip drew many images of fanart for Pengo for his game demo, which I could not find but I believe was archived earlier in the thread. I will be listing points of interest.


Floraverse has angels that are strange and "scribbly" at points. That apparently is relevant with Wreck as well:

There was also an image, though I cannot find it, posted a long time ago of this same character saying something mellow, like "it's all good", implying a similar care-free attitude to Andre.
I think Glip may have used this character as a base (maybe even subconsciously), with additional flourish added. Given Glip's tendency to steal from what they like, and given that Glip drew a lot of fanart for Wreck at the time they had known Pengo, it wouldn't surprise me if they had taken from his game.
