"I don't see what the harm is, but I'm going to give an example in the last paragraph of radically unequal power dynamics which shows what the harm is".
I like how Jason and YMS can never go beyond surface level understanding of morality and stop at "consent" when they should at least know "the big three" if they don't want to come off as having the intelligence level of a caved in Wojak head:
- -Consent
- -Informed Consent
- -Power Dynamics
"It is humping my leg so it is clearly consenting"
I'm giving a piece of candy to a 4 year old and I tell them that if I give them this piece of candy they are agreeing to participating in a contract where when they turn 18 in the future and get their first job, they have to pay me $1,000. The 4 year old says "YES" excitedly and starts grabbing at the piece of candy. What's the big deal Jason? The kid is clearly consenting, this must be a very moral act. Or maybe there is no presence of
informed consent because we don't expect children to have the mental faculties to understand the long term ramifications of things like this, therefore it would be immoral. "But dogs have sex with each other in the wild so why can't humans do it too". This is a non-sequitur argument, it's like saying "2 year olds will naturally play doctor games with one other to better understand their anatomy and explore their bodies, so why is it wrong for a 40 year old grown adult man to play doctor with them as well?" "The children can play doctor, so why can't the adult"?
Not to mention animals also rape each other naturally in the wild so if your going to use that line of reasoning then your opening up a can of worms of other people being able to justify other things that you might not like with the whole "You used X logic for Y justification, so why can't I use X for Z justification if you believe the reasoning is fine to use for Y", so I would rather not get my morality from nature.
Power Dynamics is the reason we view Boss and Employee relationships as immoral because they can hold your job over your head, future promotions, etc. Power Dynamics between humans and animals is probably the worst possible hurdle they have to go over because it's almost laughable how unequal they are. If I skinned 20 dogs alive, murdered and stuffed them into a dumpster I would get hefty animal cruelty charges, spend some time in prison and be disallowed future pets. If I did that to 20 humans I would make Ted Bundy look like a pacifist and make international news headlines and probably get the Death Penalty. whether it's physical, legal, or about any other category of power dynamics, it's not even close when your talking about animals and humans.
So not only does this act violate one, but actually
two principles of morality. So even if you want to discard one or the other your going to have a hard time discounting both of them combined and have to argue that neither informed consent nor power dynamics matter as to whether a relationship is moral or not, which sounds a little tyranical. But let's all be honest here, you're never getting a scenario of some dude saying "wow you gave me a very reasonable and justifiable argument, i'm going to stop raping my dog now". That never fucking happens, so don't kid yourself. They're going to do it regardless, so the only purpose of these kinds of conversations is so that the rest of us can reason out
why these acts are immoral so we can laugh at how ridiculous they sound whenever they pop up and blubber on about
AKSHULLY INFORMED CONSENT AND POWER DYNAMICS AREN'T REAL AND I DON'T NEED THOSE, THIS IS VERY MORAL AND ALSO I CAN READ MY DOGS MIND, WHEN IT BLINKS IT'S EYES THAT'S HOW IT QUOTES SHAKESPEARE TO ME, and observe the spectacle of how obvious their
motivated reasoning bias is as they ramble on about 700 reasons why they should be allowed to rape animals when it's clear they're not arguing in good faith and just want to post-hoc justify it so they don't feel guilty or have any conflicts. You could probably write a book on all the violations and conflicts of morality this act incurs, but this post is already long enough as it is, and I am no longer waiting for my coffee to brew, so I am done now.
